A.K. Garg joined DMRC in 2006 and there he held many pivotal roles including:

- Supervised operations over a 395-km metro network encompassing 286 stations and a workforce of 12,500 employees.
- Enhanced system reliability and cost-effectiveness by optimising technical solutions.
Executive Director (Electrical) (May 2013 – April 2018)
- Led the planning, tendering, and execution of metro projects under Phases I-III, valued at ₹2,000 crore.
- Managed coordination with international funding bodies, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

- Directed traction systems, substations, and electrical and mechanical (E&M) works for metro expansion projects.
