Uttar Pradesh Govt. approves Barra-8 – Naubasta Line of Kanpur Metro

KANPUR (Metro Rail News): Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) proposed Kanpur Metro’s expansion with a plan to add 83.658 kilometers of metro lines in the city. A new line was approved by the Uttar Pradesh government connecting Barra-8 with Naubasta, along with that six other new corridors were identified for the metro expansion. With the growing population of the city, the project is expected to reduce traffic congestion.

Panchanan Mishra, Joint General Manager, Public Relations, UPMRC, said that “in a recent meeting, presentations were made for the future expansion and utility of the metro.”

Barra 8-Naubasta Corridor’s DPR Prepared

The Barra 8-Naubasta corridor will link Line 1 (IIT Kanpur to Naubasta) and the upcoming Line 2 (CSA Agriculture University to Barra-8) of the Kanpur Metro. The length of this entirely elevated corridor will be 8.078 kilometers. Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) has prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) through RITES, which was approved by the state government. The tender process will begin as soon as the central government approval is received. The construction of this new corridor is expected to begin in 2027. 

Moreover, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has concluded their primary inspection of the extension of Line 1 from Kanpur Central to Naubasta, which is planned to operate from July. 

7 New Corridors Proposed

Seven new corridors were proposed for the Kanpur Metro:

Kanpur Metro is one of the fastest constructed metro systems in the world. The first section of the metro was inaugurated in December 2021. Currently, the metro has 14 stations, with 7 more stations expected to be inaugurated in July.
