MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): The Mumbai Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar, Andheri West) and Line 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East), both elevated corridors passing from Link Road and Western Express Highway (WEH), are currently under the supervision of the Commission of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Commissioner S V R Srinivas said, “A team from CMRS is carrying out the supervision. Once the safety clearance certificate is in place the commercial operations can begin.”
Maharashtra has designated the MMRDA as the nodal agency for all elevated metro projects.
Before opening the corridor to passengers, the CMRS certification comprises supervision of the rails, signalling, electrical systems, and civil works. In addition, the responsible authority meticulously conducts a safety inspection.
The MMRDA had already received a provisional certificate from the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) for carrying out a trial run before the supervision of the CMRS.
Dahisar and DN Nagar are connected by Mumbai Metro Line 2A, while Line 7 runs 35 km from Dahisar East to Andheri East. But, first, a 20-kilometre section between Aarey and Dhanukarwadi was made accessible to the general public in April for Gudi Padwa, the Hindu New Year. According to MMRDA data, the 20-km stretch has a healthy average daily ridership of 27,000 and an average monthly ridership of 8 lakh.
