KANPUR, INDIA (Metro rail News): Eight construction firms have submitted bids for constructing Kanpur Metro Phase-I second underground section between Nayaganj Station and Transport Nagar Ramp on 14th October 2021.

This section of the 23.786 KMs Line-1 between IIT to Naubasta with three underground stations at Kanpur Central, Jhakarkatti and Transport Nagar to be approximately 4.65 KMs long. It will consist of 6 tunnels boring machines (TBM) boring tunnels for which a minimum of two machines will be deployed.

UPMRC invited tenders for its construction in June 2021 with a 36-month deadline, and the total cost of this project is approximately Rs. 1250 crores.

Scope of the project: (I) Design and construction of TBM tunnel, cut and cover tunnel

(II) The underground ramp from Kanpur Central end of Nayaganj station to the elevated ramp after Transport Nagar and three underground metro stations (viz. Kanpur Central, Jhakarkatti and Transport Nagar), including architectural finishes, E and M, TVS, ECS etc. on Corridor-1 of Kanpur MRTS Project.

This contract will be financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) through a €650 million, i.e., approximately INR 5661 crores loan approved in July 2020.
