DELHI (Metro Rail News): After PM Narendra Modi announced the extension of the nationwide lockdown period, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) said that all metro rail services across the country, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Jaipur would remain suspended till May 3, 2020.
“With today’s announcement of extending complete lockdown in the country till May 3, metro rail services will continue to be suspended till May 3.” Said Shri Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary of Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs in a statement.
Initially, the passenger service remained shut till April 14, 2020.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the challenge was to stop the virus from spreading to new parts of the country in his address to the nation.
“Every Indian will have to stay in lockdown till May 3. I request all Indians that we stop the coronavirus from spreading to other areas,” he said.
The 21-day lockdown period announced by the Prime Minister last month was slated to end on Tuesday.
The Indian Railways has also announced that all the services, including local trains, will remain shut till the extension period.
The ministry of railways said, “All passenger train services on Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains, Suburban Trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, Konkan Railway, etc shall continue to remain suspended till midnight of May 3,”
The Customers will also get full refunds of their tickets as the Indian Railway will automatically cancel the tickets.
Besides this, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has informed that airline operations of all domestic and international flights will remain suspended till May 3.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India’s total number of positive coronavirus cases has climbed to 10,363, including 339 deaths. The figures also include 8,988 active cases, 1,035 cured/ discharged/ migrated.
