MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): The metro rail body, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, has achieved 70% of tunneling work that is required for the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 corridor. The Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 corridor is the first and only fully underground corridor for Mumbai.

Bhide said that a team of about 16,000 people has been working day and night to create this “gigantic engineering marvel” underneath.
Once complete, this corridor is scheduled to carry 17 lakh passengers by reducing 6.5 lakh vehicle trips each day and will thereby reduce 2.61 lakh MT pollutant gases every year, she claimed.

Of the overall tunneling across Metro line-3, the maximum progress that is 97% has been achieved on the stretch from Marol Naka to Aarey, which is tagged as ‘package 7’ and is expected to completed by December 12.

The metro rail body’s director (projects) S K Gupta said that of the total length of 55 km, a total of 23 stretches of tunneling across 38.25 km has been completed in 24 months. The metro rail line will have 27 stations of which 26 will be underground.
