Pune (Metro Rail News): The Pune Metro project advanced as the Maharashtra Urban Affairs Minister Madhuri Misal proposed two new stations on the Purple Line’s extension from Swargate to Katraj spanning 5.464 km through 3 stations.
The primary reason behind the proposal of two new stations between the Swargate to Katraj extension is to resolve the issue of traffic in Pune.
Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited. has even approved one of the stations named Balajinagar out of the 2 stations proposed by Madhuri Misal.

About Pune Metro’s Purple Line
Operational route: Currently, the Purple Line is operational from PCMC to Civil Court spanning 16.6 km via 13 stations.
- The Purple Line’s 3.3 km extension between Civil Court and Swargate became operational in September 2024. This section features 3 new stations.
- The extension from Swargate to Katraj spans 5.464 km featuring 3 stations.
- Purple Line’s northern extension from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Bhakti Shakti (under construction) covers 4.519 km with 5 stations.

Maharashtra Urban Affairs Minister Madhuri Misal mentioned that the metro route extension from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk spanning 1 km and Ramwadi to Vithalwadi spanning 17 km is currently at the last stage of approval.
The routes from SNDT to Manikbaug and Khadakwasla to Kharadi were undergoing preliminary review by the Union Government.
