DELHI (Metro Rail News): The central government has cleared the permanent appointment of Shri Shalabh Goel as Managing Director of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The decision gives the organisation a full-time leader as it expands rapid rail projects across NCR. The government accepted Goel’s technical resignation from the Ministry of Railways. The order came into effect on April 24, 2026. From the same day, he is treated as retired from railway service. Goel is an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE). He had been associated with NCRTC earlier, but this decision now places him in a full-time role. His exit from Railways allows him to take up the NCRTC role without holding dual responsibilities.
The appointment follows a communication from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The step signals a clear push to strengthen leadership at NCRTC. Officials believe stable leadership will help the organisation handle multiple projects at once. NCRTC is building and operating regional rapid transit systems across the National Capital Region. Work is ongoing on several corridors, while some sections have already opened for passengers. With Goel now in a permanent role, the focus will remain on execution, coordination, and faster decision-making.
