Hyderabad Airport Express Metro

Approved Operator: Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd (HAML/HMRL) Length: 31 km Official site ↗

The Hyderabad Airport Express is a 31 km dedicated metro line planned to connect the city’s IT corridor at Raidurg to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad. Delivered by Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) under the state’s metro authority, it is designed as a limited-stop express service – closer in role to an airport rapid link than a conventional stopping metro – with mostly elevated alignment and a single underground station at the airport terminal.

The project has moved into procurement, with a general consultant preferred bidder selected in 2023.

Why it matters

The Airport Express is Hyderabad’s move to give its booming western IT district a fast, direct airport link, and a test of the express-metro format – fewer stops, higher speed – as distinct from the existing city metro. As a state-driven follow-on to the PPP-built Hyderabad Metro, it also shows how the city is now mixing delivery models.
