DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Indian Railways has commissioned Kavach safety system on the 52.5 km Agra Cantt-Dholpur section, extending the automatic train protection system along the high-density Delhi-Bhopal-Mumbai route.
The system is also a key requirement for raising train speed on the Delhi-Agra Corridor from 130 kmph to 160 kmph. Although Delhi-Palwal section is still awaiting kavach commissioning. The latest section was commissioned on Thursday, months after kavach became operational between Mathura and Agra Cantt.
Agra division PRO Sanjay Gautam said, “Railways has been implementing Kawach across its network as part of efforts to strengthen train protection through indigenous safety technology.”

Kavach system to enable higher train speed
This system is planned to increase the maximum speed of trains on the Delhi-Agra route, from 130 kmph to 160 kmph. Based on the reports last year, trains such as Gatiman Express and Vande Bharat which are capable of going at 160kmph are running at 130kmph in that section from the past two years, as per the directions of railway board which had made the maximum speed reduced to 130 kmph from 160 kmph until the Kavach system was made operational.
720 radio frequency identification tags have been installed as part of the Agra Dholpur effect to provide train location and operational information. This commissioning was overseen by the Agra division DRM Gagan Goyal.
What Is Kavach?
Kawach is an automatic safety system designed to assist loco pilots and enhance railway safety by monitoring train movements and helping prevent collisions, overspeeding, and signal-related accidents.
