
Kochi: Travelling in metro will now come with an added feature – an exquisite air-conditioned bed space dormitory. Yes, you are reading it right, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has opened India’s first dormitory facility at MG Road Metro Station.
This is first of its kind initiative taken by a metro body offering world class accommodation at pocket friendly rate. This will be a bed space dormitory with air-conditioned facility. The dormitory will be operated and managed by Peters Inn.
The project was inaugurated jointly by by Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain alongside MLAs S Sharma, V D Satheeshan, Hibi Eden, P T Thomas as well as former MLA Dominic Presentation and KMRL MD APM Mohammed Hanish. The facility will be available at MG Road Kochi Metro Station.
The dormitory comes with loads of features like free Wi-Fi, security cameras, lockers and check-in and check-out facility round the clock. This will be a fully air-conditioned dormitory which people can use at economical rents.
There are a total of 200 bed cabins with 40 toilets and the design is akin to Ac coaches of railways. To make things better customers will get mobile charging points and reading light. The highlighting feature is the rent which is only Rs 395 per day.
The dormitory is made at 3,500 square feet space at the MG Road station.
Mohammed Haneesh, MD, KMRL shared that this initiative is taken to augment non-ticketing revenue. This also offers a convenient means of accommodation to metro commuters, more so for solo travellers. Taking into account the need for such facility we decided to introduce it for making commuter happy.
There will be a separate dormitory for ladies that Kochi Metro Rail plans to set up. The ladies facility will come with a locker to keep valuables and closed rooms to ensure greater security.
This facility can be availed for both day and night stay with check-in time being 7am and check-out 8am.
Managing director of Peter’s In Francis Mukkanikal assured that the space will be maintained professionally. They will be offering group bookings and this would be a perfect facility for those going on long drives added the MD.
