Jaipur Metro

Operational Operator: Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) Length: 11.98 km Official site ↗

Jaipur Metro, operated by Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC), serves Rajasthan’s capital with a compact Pink Line that includes a notable underground stretch beneath the walled old city, running under the historic Chhoti and Badi Chaupar bazaars. Phase 1 links Mansarovar in the west to the Badi Chaupar heart of the old city.

Extensions are planned and under construction to grow the network beyond its initial corridor, deepening coverage across the city.

Why it matters

Jaipur’s tunnelling beneath a dense, centuries-old walled city is a heritage-engineering achievement in the same family as Agra’s and Kolkata’s, a reminder that India’s metros increasingly must be built through, not around, historic urban cores. For a tourism-driven city, the balance between transit capacity and heritage protection is the defining project constraint.
