J Kumar wins contract worth INR 1308 crores for balance work of Mumbai Metro Line 2B

MUMBAI (Mumbai Metro): After six months of negotiations, J Kumar Infraprojects finally received Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) for completing the balance civil work of 12.8 km long elevated section of Mumbai Metro Line-2B which includes construction of elevated viaduct and 10 elevated stations.

As per LOA, MMRDA awarded this contract to J Kumar for a final value of INR 1307.88 crores. Originally, the contract for this 12.8 km long elevated section was awarded to Simplex Infrastructure in 2017 but was terminated in January 2020 due to poor progress of work.

After that, tender was re-invited in August 2020 and in November, when financial bids were opened, J Kumar emerged as the lowest bidder with bid value of INR 1389.48 crores which was 18.9% higher than the MMRDA estimated cost of INR 1167.65 crores and after months of negotiations, the contract value is finally settled at INR 1307.88 crores.

Scope of Work – Part design and Construction of (Balance Works of Package CA04R) Elevated Viaduct and 10 Elevated Stations viz. ESIC Nagar, Prem Nagar, Indra Nagar, Nanawati Hospital, Khira Nagar, Saraswat Nagar, National College, Bandra, Income Tax Office & ILFS [excluding Architectural Finishing & Pre-Engineered Steel Roof Structure of Stations] from Chainage 34035.873m to Chainage 46860.384 OF Line2B [DN. Nagar – Mandale] of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA.

Period of Completion 30 Months

Line-2B of Mumbai Metro comprises construction of 23.64 km long elevated corridor with 20 stations from D.N. Nagar to Mandale. The estimated cost of project is INR 10,986 crores with expected daily ridership of 9 lakhs commuters once it is operational.

It will provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Eastern Express Highway, Western Railway, Central Railway, Mono Rail, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova) and under construction Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar), Metro Line 4 (Wadala to Kasarvadavali) & Metro Line 3 (Colaba to SEEPZ).

The stations on the route will be ESIC Nagar, Prem Nagar, Indira Nagar, Nanavati Hospital, Khira Nagar, Saraswat Nagar, National College, Bandra, MMRDA Office, Income Tax office, ILFS, MTNL Metro, SG Barve Marg, Kurla Terminal, Kurla (E), EEH, Chembur, Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL, Mankhurd and Mandale.
