Bullet Train Project| Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, sets up separate company

New Delhi: The railways ministry has fast-tracked the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor by setting up a separate company, on the lines of the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC), which will build and operate the NDA government’s ambitious project. The company will be registered in January. The process has already being initiated by Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC), reflecting the state-run transporter’s intent to accelerate the actual work on the Modi government’s dream project expected to put the country’s railway sector in the big league. To begin with, the company would be registered in the name of Indian Railways. At a later stage, the company would be made into a joint venture (JV) with equity participation of the Maharashtra and Gujarat governments. In the JV, the equity contribution of Railways is likely to be 50% while Maharashtra and Gujarat would have a stake of 25% each. The public sector company is expected to build and also carry out train operations. It would provide access to private operators after five years of operation of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor with a suitable revenue sharing arrangement. The company, which will own the assets created on the corridor, would have effective independence in decision-making and would be run as a professional entity.A search and selection panel headed by the cabinet secretary and comprising secretary department of economic affairs and secretary, department of personnel and training would choose the managing director and other functional directors.
The corridor is likely to have 12 stations between Mumbai and Sabarmati/Ahmedabad and the tariff would be 1.5 times of first AC fare.
Niti Aayog’s expert panel, on whose recommendation the government decided to adopt the Shinkansen System, has suggested that the terminal station in Mumbai should be planned at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) so that high rise buildings can be constructed on the stations.
The railways have not only fast tracked the execution of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor but has also accelerated the feasibility studies of projects, under which Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata are to be connected by high-speed rail links. Modi has christened the high-speed train project as the Diamond Quadrilateral and it is seen as a platform for boosting demand in the transportation sector.
The project, to be built on standard gauge, is likely to cost Rs 97,636 crore and is scheduled to be completed within seven years. Japan has agreed to fund 81% of the total project cost (Rs 79,165 crore) while rest of the resources would be pooled by railways and the state governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The 505 km long corridor is likely to be extended to connect Mumbai with Delhi in the future. The railways has already received the inception report for feasibility study of the Delhi-Mumbai high-speed corridor.

Gurgaon Metro| Rapid Metro Rail ready to increase train frequency

Gurgaon: Rapid Metro, a subsidiary of ILFS Rail Ltd, which sees a daily average of about 35,000 passengers on working days, says it is ready to take on additional capacity and run trains with more frequency if Delhi implements the odd-even car scheme.

Rapid Metro is a metro system in Gurgaon, a satellite city of Delhi, connecting the business districts and also works as a feeder system for the Delhi Metro.

“We are waiting for fine print of the odd-even car scheme. We are fully prepared. If the scheme translates into more demand, we would be able to ramp up within 20 minutes,” Rajiv Banga, CEO, Rapid Metro, told.

The Rapid Metro system gets almost 75-80 per cent of its passengers from the Delhi Metro interchange station. Additionally, it is also backing on tie-up with shuttle.com.

“These are 12-17 seater shuttles. This can also be increased, although it requires more advance notice,” said Banga.

Rapid Metro has seen a 25 per cent increase in ridership since March (eight months) on the working days, said Banga. “This is sustained increase, though on certain days, it has been as high as 42,000 a day,” he added.

On the weekends, when the traffic is usually low, Rapid Metro has started running a concept train – called joy express — basically allowing kids and their guardians to book a train and have a party in the train that is closed and runs on the circuit. Rapid Metro dedicates a train for such events in which doors do not open.

Each joy ride express sees a booking of 30 kids and 40-50 adults, shared Banga. He added that the company is also setting up a double level foot overbridge with escalators that can help people access the IndusInd Bank Metro station from another side of the national highway.

Vijayawada Metro| Metro rail deadline extended for tenders

Vajayawada: The Metro Rail project is likely to be delayed as the prospective bidders have requested for extension of deadline. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which is supposed to open the tenders in the first week of December, extended the deadline up to December 29 following their request.

The DMRC has extended the deadline four times till now for want of response and requests from the prospective bidders. According to information, the bidders are taking up surveys and studies on their own. The DMRC officials, however, are tight-lipped in this regard.

According to sources, Tata, Nagarjuna Constructions, Afcons and URC have evinced interest in taking up the project. The DMRC has already conducted a pre-bid meeting.

The DMRC has planned to construct two corridors in the city at a cost of Rs.

6,823 crore. The 26-km metro project is expected to be completed by 2018. As many as 24 stations will come up on the two corridors – Penamaluru to PNBS and Nidamanuru to PNBS. The DMRC has set the ball rolling for the Vijayawada Metro Project by calling e-tenders in two parts for the PNBS – Nidamanur corridor in September. The works include architectural finishing, water supply, sanitary installation and drainage works. Both the works are to be completed in 24 months. DMRC has set November 20 as deadline for submission of tenders for both parts as per the notifications hosted on its website in September this year. The deadline was, however, later extended.

The metro project was considered keeping in view the potential of the city and likely projected increase in population. The DMRC authorities are planning to construct the Eluru corridor as it will be connected to depot at Nidamanuru.

The Bandar Road corridor will be taken up at a later stage as soon as the depot works were completed. More so, there are no land acquisition issues on Eluru Road compared to Bandar Road. The Eluru Road corridor is expected to complete by 2018 while the Bandar Road would be completed by 2019. The depot would also be completed by 2018.

An interchange bus station would come up near PNBS. The passengers travelling on Bandar and Eluru Road can board and alight there to change the train.

Ghaziabad Metro| Dilshad Garden–New Bus Adda Metro corridor is to be completed by 2017

New Delhi: The Erection of First Girder was successfully done on the Dilshad Garden – New Bus Adda (Ghaziabad) Metro section past night i.e, on 27th/28th December 2015 in a well planned launching operation before upcoming Shahid Nagar Station at Pier P1- 18 and 19.The entire process of installation of this Girder was carried out during night hours to avoid traffic disruption/inconvenience to the travelling public on the busy G T Karnal road. DMRC deployed adequate number of traffic marshals to guide/divert moving traffic along the stretch. Coordination was done with local traffic police also to ensure smooth and timely erection of the Girder so that the stretch is free from any obstruction during day time and traffic flows as usual. This was first of the 704 girders which will be erected on the Dilshad Garden – New Bus Adda (Ghaziabad) Metro extension, a 9.60 kilometre long elevated section comprising of eight stations. About 80% of these girders will be erected during night time only to avoid disruption of traffic on the busy G T road, in a well planned manner.Girders are horizontal segments (having normal length 28 m) on which the Metro tracks are laid on elevated sections. These are precast at the casting yard and then transported at site for erection. The civil work for the section has been awarded to a Joint Venture comprising of M/s Tata Project Limited and M/s GYT.The Dilshad Garden – New Bus Adda Metro corridor will be an extension of the presently operational Rithala – Dilshad Garden (Red Line) section. This corridor is being constructed on the busy GT Road that connects Ghaziabad with the national capital. This section will be Delhi Metro’s second extension inside Ghaziabad. The first one is the Yamuna Bank – Vaishali section (Line 4 – blue line) presently operates up to Vaishali in Ghaziabad. For erecting a girder the number of preceding activities like survey, geotechnical investigation, detailed design ,setting up of casting yard (for producing concrete and casting of girders & Pier caps) , pile foundations , pile cap, pier, erection of pier caps, stitching of pier cap,  pedestal & bearing fixing need to be completed. The work on Dilshad Garden – New Bus Adda Metro corridor is expected to be completed by October 2017.

Delhi Metro| Phase-IV plan hits roadblock as project report gets caught up in political wrangling

New Delhi: The proposed phase-IV of the Delhi Metro appears to have been stuck in political glitches even before ground could be broken on the ambitious project.

With a new government taking over in Delhi this year, the all-essential detailed project report (DPR) for the phase-IV project has been stuck for over one year.

Sources said it will take not less than three months for granting final approval to the DPR.

Notably, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, on Wednesday, had stated in Parliament that the Delhi government had to decide on the phase-IV project as it was being delayed at its end.

As per the original plan, work on the project was likely to start in April 2016 and various sections could be opened in phases from March 2020.

The entire project was planned to be completed by 2021-end. Sources said once the DPR is approved, it will take at least six months to acquire land.

“The completion date is subject to acquisition of land required for the project within six months period from date of sanction of project,” the DPR said.

The phase-IV project, which aims to connect the interiors as well as the distant location on outskirts of Delhi and NCR, would add 103.93 km to its network of 330 km at the end of phase III.

The Delhi Metro, at present, is 190 km long and construction of 140 km in the ongoing phase III would increase its total length to 330 km.

As per the DPR, 67 new stations would come up on six new corridors proposed by the Delhi Metro.

The new corridors include Rithala – Narela (21.73 km), Janakpuri West – RK Ashram (28.92 km), Mukundpur – Maujpur (12.54 km), Inderlok – Indraprastha (12.58 km), Tughlakabad – Aerocity (20.20 km) and Lajpat Nagar – Saket GBlock (7.96 km).

Completion of the new corridors would bring remote locations like Narela, Maujpur, Madangir, Bawana, Barwala, Mukundpur, Najafgarh, Chhawla and Mahipalpur on the metro map.

Earlier, the Delhi Metro had made certain changes in the initial project layout following suggestions given by the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), an engineering consultancy company.

The RITES had conducted a traffic survey and found that some changes in the plan would benefit more people. Completion of the phase-IV project would benefit nearly 60 lakh people daily.

The daily ridership on Delhi Metro at present is 26 lakh which is estimated to go up to 40 lakh on completion of phase III by the end of 2016.

The proposed corridors would link the existing routes of phase I, II and III through different routes and thus will reduce the travel time and expense.

The focus in the metro’s phase IV will be to connect areas that have not been linked with the Delhi Metro till phase III.

Mumbai Metro| MMRDA, MMRC mull merging Metro corridors

Mumbai: Forget local trains, in the future you may be able to travel from Dahisar to Churchgate directly via Metro. The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) and the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) are considering integrating (merging) the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor and the Dahisar (East) to Andheri (East) Metro-7 corridor by constructing a common passageway for both the lines at the proposed Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) Metro station.“This means now if any given commuter is travelling from Dahisar and wants to travel up to Churchgate or Colaba, he or she may be able to take Metro-7 from Dahisar and get down at airport Metro station. The commuter can, after that, using the interchange passageway get into Metro-3 underground corridor between the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ, which is being implemented by the MMRC,” said an MMRDA official.“The initial plan for Metro-7 was up to Andheri (East) a Metro station for Andheri (East) near the Andheri railway station and the Metro-3 was to end at Seepz, but now we are considering to construct a common integrated platform at airport Metro station which means extending the Metro-7 up to Mumbai airport,” added MMRDA official. This comes after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), had earlier recommended to MMRDA in a detailed project report that Mumbai is the commercial capital of India with fast growth, especially in the suburbs. It therefore proposed to extend Metro-7 from Andheri (East) up to the Mumbai airport complex which will increase connectivity for commuters travelling from Dahisar to Colaba as the Metro-3 underground corridor constructed by MMRC will pass by the airport. DMRC is the interim consultant for the construction of Metro-7 corridor and the work will be executed by the MMRDA.Meanwhile, Dilip Kawathkar, joint metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA, said, “We are considering the plan of integrating the Metro-7 and Metro-3 corridors by making the airport Metro station the interchange station.

It will help to decrease the traffic on roads in the city and also help the people who are currently travelling via local trains on from the western suburbs and travelling to South Mumbai.”It is interesting to note that the airport Metro station is not the only planned interchange Metro station in the city. The DN Nagar Metro station of the Metro-1 corridor between Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) will act as an interchange Metro station after Metro-2 corridor between Dahisar and DN Nagar and the Metro-2B corridor between DN Nagar-Mankhurd are constructed. The DN Nagar-Mankhurd Metro corridor is a part of the Metro-2 (Dahisar-Charkop—Bandra-Mankhurd), which was earlier planned underground, but was later turned into an elevated corridor. The line was also divided into three parts namely Dahisar-DN Nagar, DN Nagar-BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex) and BKC-Mankhurd.
