NMRC increases Fast Trains Services in four more stations

GREATER NOIDA, INDIA (Metro Rail News): On Monday, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) announced that from Tuesday, i.e., 31st August 2021, the “fast trains” of the Noida-Greater Noida Metro will stop at four (4) more stations between the twin cities during the peak hours on Monday to Friday.

“Keeping in mind the public benefits, non-stoppage stations by the fast trains have been reviewed by the NMRC. The fast trains will start stopping at Sector-50, Sector-101, Sector-83 and Sector-143 stations with effect from 31st August 2021 (Tuesday), said NMRC Managing Director Ritu Maheshwari

Therefore, the trains would continue to skip five (5) out of ten (10) stations that they did not stop at earlier during the peak hours, and the NMRC operates “fast trains” during peak hours (08:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 05:00 PM to 08:00 PM) on weekdays. These trains skip ten (10) stations with a low and average ridership between Noida and Greater Noida.

As a result, the NMRC added Noida Sector-81 to the stoppages for the fast trains on 02nd August 2021, while the situation remained unchanged at the nine other stations.

The NMRC introduced the “fast train” service between Noida and Greater Noida from 01st February 2021 to reduce the travel time during peak hours. The service was made available from terminal stations — Noida Sector 51 station and Greater Noida’s Depot station from 08:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 05:00 PM to 08;00 PM on weekdays to cover the peak rush hour.

“However, five (5) stations, namely Sector-144, Sector-145, Sector-146, Sector-147 and Sector-148, will continue to be skipped by fast trains.

Integration of Metro and Railway at Kengri Line for commuter’s benefits

BANGLORE, INDIA (Metro Rail News): The opening up of the Mysuru Road-Kengeri line plays a vital role in making the daily travelling of office goers between Mysuru and neighbouring towns and Bengaluru faster and more comfortable. First, however, it is indispensable to put infrastructure for easy pedestrian access between the new Metro stations and the railway stations in their vicinity.

While the BMRCL stresses that regular commuters between Bengaluru and Mysuru enormously as the road traffic on Mysuru Road can be bypassed using the metro, those expected to use them think infrastructure for it is sorely missing.

“The Jnanabharati Metro and railway stations are connected, but only a few trains stop at this station. The two Metro stations of Kengeri Bus Terminal and Kengeri and Nayandahalli are not associated with their respective railway stations, which are nearly 800 metres from each other. The road to being crossed to access them is narrow, unhygienic, and dangerous,” said S. Yogendra, Rail Activist.

An option that can be considered by Railways is upgrading the Jananabharati railway station to help commuters interchange easily here, he added.

Thirty pairs of trains ply between KSR and Mysuru daily. “Of the 25 pairs stop at Kengeri while two pairs of MEMU trains stop at Jananabharati railway station,” said officials.

The Kengeri Bus Terminal Metro station is just 100 metres away from its Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) Kengeri TTMC bus stand, one Karnataka State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bay. Still, there is no connecting bridge as of now. However, Shri Anjum Parwez, BMRCL Managing Director, said, “We are ready with the designs and will be putting up a Foot Over Bridge at the earliest as soon as the line becomes operational. Multi-modal integration is a priority for the metro.”

“We will be keenly watching the travel pattern as soon as the line starts. If more buses are running in the direction towards Mysuru is required, we will introduce them soon. Buses from Mysuru Road Satellite Bus Terminal towards Kengeri run with 70% occupancy, and there is space to take on more commuters. We can even consider starting and terminating buses from Kengeri,” said Shri B.T. Prabhakar Reddy, Chief Traffic Manager (Operations), KSRTC.

Metro-Neo feasibility research for Elevated Mass Transit Corridor

MAHARASHTRA, INDIA (Metro Rail News): On Thursday, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha Metro) will prepare a detailed project report introducing Metro-Neo service on the city’s proposed high-capacity mass transit route.

The high-capacity mass transit route is planned as a 36 KM long elevated way with dedicated lanes for Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and personal vehicles. Metro-Neo will be part of the HCMTR; the practical research report will give the authorities a better idea of implementing it.

On Thursday, Maha Metro said it had held preliminary discussions with Pune municipal corporation and mayor Murlidhar Mohol on Metro-Neo’s feasibility.

Deputy chief minister Shri Ajit Pawar and Ex CM Shri Devendra Fadnavis support this proposal.

We had discussions with mayor Murlidhar Mohol and PMC authorities about the DPR for the Metro-Neo project. We have also received a letter from the mayor. Metro-Neo is a reduced cost and efficient solution for the citizens, also being implemented in Nashik. However, the practical research is expected to take approximately one year, said Shri Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director, Maha Metro.

Congress leader Abu Bagul, following HCMTR for many years, said it was needed to strengthen the city’s public transport infrastructure. The town needs HCMTR. It has to drag for many years; we have recently given it a push. Now the metro-neo is being studied.

Union government will finance the Metro-Neo project, as it can be classified as the latest proposal distinct from the ongoing Pune metro rail work, said Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Ex-CM, Maharashtra.

Activists are worried the project will have ramifications for the environment. Some said HCMTR would encourage the use o private vehicles and eventually defeat the purpose of strengthening public transport. The Pimpri Chinchwad civic body has proposed Metro-Neo in its jurisdiction. Maha Metro’s study will also focus on how the two can be seamlessly integrated.

Test run of Dhaka Metro Rail project will be held on 29th August 2021

DHAKA, (Metro Rail News): The authorities are ready to conduct a test run of a metro train on the main tracks on 29th August 2021, touching a new milestone in the first-ever metro rail project in Dhaka.

“All necessary tests inside the depot have already been completed. The first metro train’s performance test will begin on the viaduct on Sunday, i.e., 29th August 2021, at 10:00 AM. We have completed almost all necessary preparations for the performance test and will be fully prepared for the test run, which will on the next two days,” said M.A.N Siddique, Managing Director, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd. (DMTCL).

Road Transport and Bridges (RT&B) Minister Obaidul Quader will attend the Ceremonial Demonstration of First-Ever on Sunday at 10:00 AM.

The authorities now want to complete the first stretch Uttara to Agargaon of the 20.10 KM metro rail line operational by December next year.

Mass Rapid Transit Line-6, the country’s first metro rail system, is being built from the capital’s Uttara to Motijheel at the cost of Tk 21,985 crores.

Once complete, the metro rail with 16 stations will carry over 60,000 people in one hour, reduce travel time from Uttara to Motijheel to approximate forty (40) minutes only. The journey now takes more than two hours every day.

The overall work of the fast-track project was 68.49 per cent till July 2021. The Ist phase was done with 88.18 per cent progress, and the second phase from Agargaon to Motijhee with 66.74 per cent. According to the project’s progression report, the installation of tracks and other equipment and procurement of cars saw 60.66 per cent progress.

The first metro trains reached Dhaka on 21st April 2021 and the depot two days later, registering a significant development in the project.

Each train has six (6) cars that can carry a maximum of 2,308 people at a time. Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., a Japan-based manufactured company, said DMTCL officials.

Bangladesh’s first-ever electricity train was rolled out on the tracks on a test run inside the depot in the city’s Diabari on 11th May 2021. The country entered a new transformation of electricity-powered trains because all conventional trains run on diesel.

However, the performance test would involve the first four stations as there is a turnout point at the Pallabi station. The Mirpur-11 station will also be prepared when the train reaches the Pallabi station, where they get power from the power sub-station at Mirpur-11, said MD.

“The train will be operated between the four stations slowly,” said DMTCL officials. The project is being implemented under eight (8) packages.

Package 3 and 4 are used to build viaducts from Uttara to Agargaon, while package 7 is for maintaining electrical and mechanical systems and package 8 for storing rolling stock depot equipment.

According to officials, people involved with these four packages pass busy hours to make the performance test successful. So far, four sets of metro trains out of 24 have reached the country.

Meanwhile, the DMTCL authority, with MD in the chair, held a meeting on 26th August 2021 with the consultants of all eight (8) packages and the team leaders to make Sunday’s programme a success, they added.
