BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): The Karnataka Government had issued a third preliminary land acquisition notification for Package 1 of Bengaluru Metro Phase 3, covering the proposed Orange Line corridor between JP Nagar 4th Phase and Kempapura. Accrording to The Hindu report, The latest notice identifies 13,409.05 square metres of land for acquisition, as Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) advances land procurement and consultancy preparations for the 44.65-km expansion.

Dated October 16, 2026, the notification was published in the Karnataka State Gazette and lists properties across 11 entries. It includes survey numbers, property identification details, land areas and information on existing structures.

The properties are located in Kaggalipura, Jaraganahalli and other areas along the proposed alignment. As a preliminary notification, it forms part of the land acquisition process and does not by itself establish that acquisition is complete.

Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 covers 44.65 km across two corridors

BMRCL is developing Bengaluru Metro Phase 3, also known as the Orange Line project, to extend metro connectivity across western and northern Bengaluru. The project comprises two corridors:

  • Corridor 1: JP Nagar 4th Phase-Kempapura, spanning 32.15 km with 22 stations.
  • Corridor 2: Hosahalli-Kadabagere, covering 12.50 km with 9 stations.

More than two years after the project received approval, BMRCL has also invited expressions of interest from Indian and international consultancy firms for the General Consultant role. The appointment is intended to provide technical oversight and project management support across both corridors.

General Consultant to oversee design and construction

The proposed consultant will support BMRCL through engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. Its responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing engineering designs and finalising tender documents.
  • Evaluating bids and assisting with contract negotiations.
  • Monitoring construction quality, workplace safety and environmental compliance.
  • Coordinating contractors and tracking project implementation.
  • Supporting system testing and commissioning before the corridors open to passengers.

The consultancy appointment is a preparatory step. The project’s delivery will also depend on land acquisition, funding arrangements, procurement and construction progress.

BMRCL seeks ¥102.48-billion JICA loan

BMRCL has applied for a Japanese Official Development Assistance loan of ¥102.48 billion from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to part-finance the two corridors.

The proposed loan will cover only a portion of the project cost, with BMRCL responsible for arranging the remaining funds. Procurement and consultancy appointments for components financed through JICA assistance will follow the agency’s guidelines, according to a BMRCL official. No loan approval date or construction completion timeline was specified in the information provided.

Interchanges planned with metro, rail and bus services

Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 is intended to improve access across Bengaluru, including along the western Outer Ring Road, Magadi Road and other major arterial routes. The project also envisages connections with existing and under-construction metro stations, BMTC bus terminals, Indian Railways stations and proposed suburban rail stations being developed by K-RIDE. Multi-modal integration facilities are planned at the following locations:

  1. JP Nagar 4th Phase and JP Nagar
  2. Kamakya and Mysuru Road
  3. Sumanahalli and Peenya
  4. BEL Circle and Hebbal
  5. Kempapura and Hosahalli

These proposed connections aim to improve commuter convenience by enabling smoother transfers between metro, bus, suburban rail and mainline railway services. The issuance of the third land acquisition notification marks another important step in advancing Bengaluru Metro Phase 3.

However, it does not indicate that construction is ready to commence. The project’s progress will depend on completing the remaining land acquisition procedures, securing the necessary financial approvals and advancing consultancy appointments and tendering activities. These steps are crucial for moving the two proposed corridors towards implementation and ensuring that the project progresses in line.
