INDORE (Metro Rail News): Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the extended Indore Metro service at the Brilliant Convention Centre in Indore Today (5 September). Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also attended the event. The Indore Metro network will now expand from about 6.3 km to 17.5 km with the opening of the Gandhi Nagar-Malviya Nagar Chowraha corridor. The extension will bring Metro services closer to key residential and commercial areas across the city.
Regular passenger services on the extended corridor will begin from September 6, connecting Gandhi Nagar with Malviya Nagar Chowraha, also known as Radisson Hotel Chowraha. The expanded corridor will cover 16 stations. Metro trains will operate at a 15-minute frequency, with more than 80 trips scheduled each day.

From 6.3 km to 17.5 km operational network
Indore Metro initially started passenger operations on a 6.3-km section between Gandhi Nagar and Super Corridor-3. The latest extension significantly increases the operational length to around 17.5 km. It will improve metro access to a wider part of the city and connect areas beyond the initial Super Corridor section. The extension follows the completion of testing and statutory approvals for the Gandhi Nagar-Radisson stretch.

The project has taken several years to move from construction to regular passenger operations.
- 14 September, 2019: Foundation stone laid for the initial Indore Metro corridor.
- September 2023: First trial run conducted on the Super Priority Corridor.
- 31 May, 2025: Passenger services started on the 6.3-km Gandhi Nagar-Super Corridor-3 section.
- October 2025: Trial run conducted on the extended Gandhi Nagar-Radisson section.
- 27 March, 2026: The corridor received approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS).
- 6 September, 2026: Regular passenger services scheduled to begin on the extended corridor.
What the extension means for Indore
The opening marks the next operational phase of Indore Metro after the launch of its initial short stretch in 2025. The longer corridor should make the system more useful for daily travel, while future extensions will determine how effectively the metro integrates with the city’s wider transport network.
