NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, announced in a press conference on Delhi Master Plan 2047 that the Delhi Metro will expand to 695 km from the present 416 km. Moreover, he announced 6 new Regional Rapid Transit Systems (RRTS) to improve connectivity.  

The population of Delhi is expected to rise to approximately 3.20 Crores by 2047. In the master plan, the union minister announced that they will propose a plan to facilitate Transit Oriented Development (TOD) by introducing residential and commercial buildings around the metro and RRTS stations. Further, he said that last mile connectivity will also get improved to facilitate metro connectivity.

Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar and Kashmere Gate are planned as multi modal connectivity hubs and transit hubs to facilitate connectivity through metro, RRTS, bus, railway and other means of public transport.

Shri Manohar Lal Khattar said “[Delhi] Metro network, which is presently 416 km, is planned to extend to 693 km. Additionally, along with the neighbouring states, the RRTS network, of which only one line is operational, will also extend with 6 new lines.”

24 Hours Metro

In another major announcement, the minister said that under the 24-hour city plan, the 24-hour metro operation is also being proposed to improve all time connectivity in Delhi. The facility will enhance the metro connectivity at all times and will make it easier to commute during any time of the day.

With these plans, Delhi is expected to have a commutation friendly infrastructure with an improved metro connectivity and RRTS. The plan will strengthen the national capital region by 2047 as we move towards a Viksit Bharat.
