KOLKATA (Metro Rail News): The Railway Ministry has appointed Shri Prem Sagar Gupta as the new General Manager of Kolkata Metro. The Railway Ministry announced his appointment on June 5 2026. Before taking the new role, Gupta has also served as Principal Chief Engineer of Northern Railway. Gupta also has an excellent academic record in civil engineering.
- Gold Medal in Civil Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering
- M.Tech from IIT Delhi, where he secured the top position
- M.Phil from the National Defence College (NDC)
Throughout his career, he has handled several important assignments within Indian Railways and the Railway Board.
Experience in key Railway positions
Gupta has worked in senior leadership roles at the Ministry of Railways and Railway Board, including,
- Principal Executive Director and Chief Engineer (Planning)
- Executive Director (Corporate Coordination)
One of the notable projects associated with Gupta’s career is the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project in Jammu and Kashmir. As Chief Engineer (Design), he contributed to engineering solutions for structural challenges linked to the Chenab Bridge, one of the most significant railway bridge projects in the country.
