The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved two major railway projects worth approximately Rs 2,781 crore.

The approved projects are:

  • Devbhumi Dwarka (Okha) to Kanalus Doubling (141 km)
  • Badlapur to Karjat 3rd and 4th line expansion (32 km)

These initiatives are part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, focusing on enhancing multi-modal connectivity and logistic efficiency through integrated planning and stakeholder engagement. Together, these projects will boost seamless movement of people, goods, and services.

Spanning four districts across Maharashtra and Gujarat, the projects will add around 224 km to the Indian Railways network. The multi-tracking work will improve connectivity to approximately 585 villages with a combined population of about 32 lakh.

The doubling of the Kanalus to Okha line will strengthen access to the Dwarkadhish temple, a major pilgrimage center, promoting comprehensive development in the Saurashtra region. Meanwhile, the Badlapur to Karjat expansion, part of the Mumbai suburban corridor, will enhance suburban connectivity and accommodate growing passenger demand, also improving links to Southern India.
