KOLKATA (Metro Rail News): Kolkata Metro is likely to do away with e-passes from mid-January, when the contract with the developer of the technology behind the e-pass ends.

The colour-coded e-passes, generated from a URL and booked in advance to access the north-south line, were key to controlling crowd when Metro resumed services after a 176-day Covid-induced lockdown on September 14.The state had appointed Ideation Technology, a technology partner with the state transport department, on a three month’s contract according to an official.

When the contract ended in December, transport department officials met with Sanjay Chatterjee, who heads Ideation Technology, to extend the contract for another month according to a news report.
Metro Rail may be asked to take a call on whether the contract should be terminated.
