Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor

Under Construction Operator: HRIDC (Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corp) Length: 121.742 km Official site ↗

The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor is a 122 km broad-gauge line under construction to form a freight-and-passenger bypass around the western NCR, connecting Palwal, Sonipat and the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) belt. Built by HRIDC (the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation), a state-Railways joint venture, it is designed for 160 km/h operation and is intended primarily to divert freight away from congested Delhi-area tracks while enabling regional passenger services.

An initial section is under construction with the balance approved, along with spur and link lines tying the corridor into the existing network at Asaoti, Pirthala and Harsana Kalan.

Why it matters

HORC is the clearest example of the “orbital” logic now shaping NCR rail – infrastructure built to move goods and people around the capital rather than through it. As a freight-led project with passenger potential, it is a different model from the commuter-focused RRTS, and a test of whether state corporations can deliver Railways-grade mainline infrastructure.
