The Purple Line is 43.49 km long and has 37 stations, from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta.
The first section, Baiyappanahalli to MG Road, opened on 20 October 2011. The full Whitefield to Challaghatta line became operational on 9 October 2023, when the Baiyappanahalli to KR Pura and Kengeri to Challaghatta gaps opened.
Five stations are underground: Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, Sir M. Visvesvaraya (Central College), Majestic and Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station. Baiyappanahalli is at ground level and the rest are elevated.
The two lines meet at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station, Majestic, which is also next to KSR Bengaluru railway station and the Kempegowda bus station.
Fares range from ₹10 to ₹90 under the fare structure in force since February 2025. The fare depends on the number of stations travelled.
No new stations are under construction. BMRCL is extending the track by 482.80 m beyond Whitefield station to improve train reversal, and the lowest bidder for that ₹64.82 crore work was identified in August 2026. Extensions to Hoskote and Bidadi have only been proposed.
No tenders or contracts have been recorded for this project yet. New bids across India appear on the Tender Tracker.
