Chennai Metro: CMRL receives final approval from CMRS for starting its operations

0

Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has received the final approval for starting the operations anytime now after being subjected to various tests and clearances. A top official working in the office of the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), Bengaluru said, “We have given the authorisation for starting commercial operations. ”

“We have given some instructions on precautions that they may have to follow,” he added.

But it is unlikely that it will be inaugurated this month as the model code of conduct for the R.K. Nagar by-poll has come into effect. If it has to be launched, the State government should approach the Election Commission.

CMRS — whose certification is necessary for beginning commercial operations — has inspected the Chennai Metro Rail thrice so far.

First they checked the trains (known as ‘rolling stock’ in engineering parlance), then the stretch between Koyambedu and Ashok Nagar and finally from Ashok Nagar till Alandur. While the trains will operate on two tracks (up and down) from Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar, it will be a single track for both services beyond that station till Alandur. This single track service was possible after the Ministry of Urban Development amended the Metro Rail General Rules, 2013. The service will run as a single line beyond Ashok Nagar as there is no cross over facility for trains to change tracks.

Varanasi Metro: Varanasi Metro DPR in 6 Months says UP Chief Secretary

0

Varanasi: Affirming state government commitment to historical city’s development, Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan said that detailed project report on metro rail project would be ready within six months and announced that Mohansarai-Cantonment railway station road would soon be converted into five-lane.

During his two-day visit, Ranjan instructed district officials to complete all projects on time and suspended two PWD engineers for laxity in road construction works.

Before returning to state capital, Ranjan on Saturday morning took a boat ride to take stock of ghats. Earlier, during Friday evening’s meeting with public representatives, including MLAs, the chief secretary was informed about the threat posed to ghats along Ganga by the tortoise sanctuary. The officer not only assured of early solution to the problem but also hinted that Varuna corridor project too would get a nod soon.

Local industrialists were told that Ramnagar industrial estate would be upgraded into a model industrial zone. Ranjan also hinted at setting up more industrial estates in the district and said that government was planning to ensure 24-hour uninterrupted power supply in city area and 16-hour supply in rural belt of Varanasi.

Reviewing the progress of repair works of road cut to lay pipelines under various projects, Ranjan found two PWD engineers, including an executive engineer of national highway division, guilty of laxity and financial bungling. He ordered their immediate suspension. The senior officer asked Varanasi Development Authority to complete Transport Nagar project, lingering for the past 15 years at the earliest, and fixed deadline for completion of trauma center at DDU district hospital. The chief secretary made it clear that Karsada plant of solid waste management would not remain non-functional.

High drama was also witnessed during chief secretary’s meeting following a heated argument between UP minister of state for PWD and irrigation Surendra Patel and mayor Ram Gopal Mohaley over delay in construction of roads like Babatpur-Bhadohi.

Agra Metro: Agra likely to get 2 Metro routes

18

Agra: The local administration has given its approval for two Metro corridors in the city – from Sikandra crossing to Trident Hotel and Agra Cantonment Station to District Court.

Metro in the first stretch will pass through Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (IMHH), St John’s College, S N Medical College, Heeng ki Mandi, Agra Fort, Fatehabad Road and Circuit House. The second route will cross Sadar Bazar, Pratap Pur crossing, M G Road and Hari Parwat localities.

Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), the company shortlisted to plan and prepare a detailed project report for Metro in the city, will now study the areas which require underground and elevated routes.

A 16-member committee, headed by Agra divisional commissioner Pradeep Bhatnagar, has approved the proposal in principle on Thursday.

Ishtiaq Ahmad, chief town planner at the Agra Development Authority (ADA), said, “The routes will be a combination of underground and elevated corridors. In most likelihood, the stretch between IMHH and S N Medical College will be an underground one. As far as the second route is concerned, there is a plan to cover areas beyond the District Court. For this, we have two options. The route could either be stretched to Dayal Bagh Temple or reach Kalindi Vihar via National Highway 2 (NH2). RITES will tell us which option is more feasible in a week’s time.”

“Total length of two routes is 25km. It would be built at a cost of Rs 200 crore per kilometer for the elevated sections, and Rs 450 crore per kilometer for the underground stretch,” the ADA official further said.

RITES will prepare a detailed project report after concluding with the engineering survey.
