GMRL kick-starts Ahmedabad Metro Phase 3-B with geotechnical investigation tender 

AHMEDABAD (Metro Rail News): Following the geotechnical work tender for Ahmedabad Metro Phase 3C, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation has now moved to Phase 3B and initiated the tendering process for its geotechnical investigation. This move shows the institution’s vision to materialise the project at the earliest.

Detailed Scope of Work: Engagement of Agency for Geotechnical Investigation Work for 12.576 Km Elevated Viaduct from Canal Road to Badrabad Dead End (from Chainage 6904.984 to 19481.228) of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project-Phase -III (B).

As part of the assignment, the selected contractor will undertake comprehensive geotechnical investigations along the proposed elevated corridor to assess sub-surface conditions and support the detailed design of civil structures. 

The scope includes conducting borehole drilling at designated locations, collecting soil and rock samples to determine the engineering properties of the soil and rock strata. The agency will also prepare detailed geotechnical reports covering soil stratification, groundwater conditions, bearing capacity assessments, foundation recommendations, and other geotechnical parameters required for the design of viaduct piers, stations, and associated structures. The investigations will help optimise foundation design, ensure structural safety, and facilitate the smooth execution of the metro project. 

JMRC awarded Rs 76.14 cr electrification contract to Jackson Ltd 

JAIPUR (Metro Rail News): Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (JMRC) has awarded a Rs 76.14 crore contract to Jakson Limited for supplying and installing key electrical systems for the metro network. This contract includes traction power systems, substations, cabling, and SCADA systems for both underground and elevated metro corridors.

Scope of work

The scope of work includes design, detail engineering, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 25 KV traction (ROCS and FOCS), 33 KV Auxiliary Sub Stations (ASS), associated Cabling and SCADA systems for both underground and elevated Corridors of JMRC.

Kavach’s role in improving safety

Kavach is an Automatic Train Protection system developed by Indian Railways to make train operations safer. The system helps- prevent train collisions, provide automatic train protection, improve safety during train operations and support safer movement of passenger and freight trains. The Railway Ministry stated that installing Kavach on these routes will enhance safety by adding automatic train protection and collision avoidance features.

Part of a larger safety program

Indian Railways is extending Kavach across busy and strategically important routes as part of its nationwide railway safety program. The East Coast Railway project will support this initiative and raise safety standards on key rail corridors in the region.

Scope of Work

NCRTC relocates depot to Panchgaon for Delhi-Alwar RRTS Line

HARYANA (Metro Rail News): The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has shifted the depot of Delhi-Alwar Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) from Dharuhera in Rewari, Haryana to Panchgaon in Gurugram district in Haryana. After opening the proposed RRTS corridor will significantly reduce the travel time between Delhi and Alwar, leading to decongestion of the national capital. 

The Haryana government has planned to make Panchgaon a major transit integration of three systems. It will connect the RRTS corridor with the proposed Gurugram Metro extension from Sector 56 and the upcoming Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor along the KMP expressway. 

According to The New Indian Express, the NCRTC has completed the surveys for the first phase of the project covering Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Bawal in Haryana. They have conducted land assessments and studied the soil quality across 22 locations along the route, including DGPS survey, topography mapping and pile assessment. The first phase of the project will be the longest phase covering 93.5 km of the total 164 km route.

In an earlier announcement, the NCRTC had shifted the terminal station for the first phase of the project. Initially, the proposed terminal station for the phase was planned at SNP (Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror), but it was later reduced to Bawal, shortening the initial stretch. 

The proposed corridor will connect Delhi with Gurugram and Rewari in Haryana, and Alwar in Rajasthan. This will be the second Namo Bharat corridor, after the Delhi-Meerut RRTS, connecting Delhi with neighbouring districts through semi-high speed trains. The Delhi-Meerut RRTS became entirely operational on 22nd February 2026, covering Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut in less than 1 hour.

Scope of work 

The contractor will carry out Complete Track Renewal (CTR) work on the Raikabagh-Phalodi Junction section. The work will cover Raikabagh – Phalodi Jn. CTR(P) – 92.000 Tkm (From Km 0.000 to Km 92.000) by Contractors own PQRS/SQRS portal under ADEN/Line-II Jurisdiction.

About the Project

The Raikabagh-Phalodi route is an important railway section in western Rajasthan. Passenger and freight trains use this route regularly. Through this project, North Western Railway plans to replace aging track infrastructure and improve the overall performance of the line.

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Chennai Metro’s Phase 2 project is about to reach an important milestone next month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to open the 14.6 km Vadapalani-Poonamallee Bypass Metro stretch, which will cut travel time for commuters in western Chennai. 

According to The New Indian Express Report, The Prime Minister is expected to visit Tamil Nadu in the second or third week of July to inaugurate the Vadapalani-Poonamallee Bypass (Nazarethpet) Metro Rail section. He is also expected to dedicate several completed railway projects to the nation and lay the foundation for two National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects during his visit. The 14.6 km stretch is part of Chennai Metro Phase 2’s Corridor 4. It is a 26.1 km route that will connect Lighthouse near Marina Beach with Poonamallee Bypass. 

Officials said Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has received all the clearances which are needed to start operations on this new section. TNIE also mentioned in their report that the Tamil Nadu government has informed the Prime Minister’s Office about the completion of the corridor and now they are waiting for confirmation of the inauguration date. An official mentioned that the Prime Minister may come to the state in the second or third week of July. This visit could happen after a possible reshuffle in the Union Cabinet, which is expected in the first week of the month.

Travel time to reduce sharply

The new metro line will improve connectivity between Poonamallee and Vadapalani. Travel time between these sections is also expected to drop from around 90 minutes to about 30 minutes. The corridor will also connect with the existing Green Line at Vadapalani. The Green Line currently runs between Chennai Central and St Thomas Mount.

In the first phase, trains starting from Poonamallee Bypass will stop at all 10 stations up to Porur. After Porur, trains will head directly to Vadapalani and will not stop at the following six stations:

  • Alapakkam
  • Karambakkam
  • Valasaravakkam
  • Alwarthirunagar
  • Saligramam Warehouse
  • Saligramam

The opening of the metro corridor is important for another major transport project in the region. The Tamil Nadu government had also planned to launch the Kuthambakkam mofussil bus terminus near Thirumazhisai this year in February. But, authorities postponed the opening because metro work between Vadapalani and Porur is still underway. The bus terminus is about 6.5 km from the Poonamallee Bypass Metro station.

Ranjit Buildcon Ltd. bags Rs 383.9 cr contract for Lucknow Metro Phase 1B elevated corridor

LUCKNOW (Metro Rail News): Ranjit Buildcon Ltd. has secured a contract worth Rs 383.98 crore for building a significant elevated section of Lucknow Metro Phase 1B. The project features an elevated viaduct, five metro stations, a depot connection ramp, and several support facilities.

Scope of work

Under this contract, Ranjit Buildcon will design and construct the main line elevated viaduct from ThakurGanj Metro Station to Vasantkunj Metro Station (approx. 4.6 km including station length), construction of ramp (approx. 740.00 m) to connect viaduct & depot entry/exit and 5 nos. of elevated metro stations i.e., Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarajganj, Musabagh & Vasantkunj, including civil, associated ancillary structures, PEB structures, architectural work, water supply, sanitary installation, drainage, external development, fire fighting arrangement, E&M works in Phase-1B of Lucknow Metro.

About the Project

The East-West Corridor is part of Lucknow Metro Phase 1B. The proposed corridor will connect Charbagh to Vasant Kunj and it is going to be 11.165 km long. Around 4.286 km of the route will be elevated, while 6.879 km will be underground. This route will enhance connectivity in several densely populated areas of old Lucknow.

Through this contract, GMRC plans to maintain track quality and improve operational reliability across both Phase 1 and Phase 2 sections of the metro network.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rain News): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to do a comprehensive study to find ways to ease out traffic in the Central Vistas area. The focus area of this study will be around the bustling stretches in the national administrative district, covering C-Hexagon, Man Singh Marg, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg and Teen Murti Marg. The assessment will examine the mobility requirements of the area up to 2060. 

The purpose of the study will be to find grade-separated infrastructure proposals for the decongestion of the Central Vista area. The study will include:

  • Micro Simulation
  • Alignment Design
  • Structure Feasibility Assessment
  • Environmental Considerations
  • Broad Cost Estimation of Work

DMRC has floated a tender for this project. The tender document says that the assessment should be completed in six months. The study is expected to assess tunnels and underpasses which can reduce traffic congestion in the area while maintaining the heritage area’s architectural and ecological importance. The corporation said that the intervening proposals should be sustainable and feasible both economically and technically. 

The Central Vista is the key administrative area in New Delhi. It is one of the most significant areas, where the most vital national infrastructures such as Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Parliament House and India Gate are situated. Over the past few years, the government has pursued a project to redevelop the area. The DMRC Phase 5(A) expansion also includes a corridor to serve this area.
