The Railway Board has approved a new Vande Bharat Express route linking Udaipur in Rajasthan with Asarwa in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The train will be managed and operated by the North Western Railway zone.
Railway Board has taken this decision as Indian Railways will discontinue two existing Vande Bharat Express trains this week. Train 20979/80 (Udaipur City-Jaipur) ends service on February 14, 2026, and train 20981/82 (Udaipur City-Agra Cantt) will be discontinued from February 15, 2026.
The semi-high-speed train will run six days a week, skipping Tuesdays, and include stops at Zawar, Dungarpur, and Himmatnagar to serve tribal and semi-urban areas in northern Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The service promises to reduce travel times between Udaipur and Ahmedabad . The train is equipped with eight air-conditioned chair car coaches and premium amenities. It will enhance regional connectivity, boost the local economy, and provide easier access to Ahmedabad’s airport and the expanding business corridor.
