Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has said most of the land acquisition for the Metro Rail extension project from Dilshad Garden to New Bus Stand has been completed.
The GDA said the project does not face any roadblocks and a hiccup over the handover of a 3.5-km stretch by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had been sorted out.
Vijay Yadav, vice-chairman of GDA, said, “The work on making land available to the DMRC is under way and as of now we have acquired 18,563.96 square metres of land against 22,779.

81 square metres required,” said Vijay Yadav, vice-chairman, GDA.
For the purpose of constructing Metro stations at Shahidnagar, Rajbagh, Rajender Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala and New Bus Stand land has been acquired and the cost incurred was about Rs 45 crore.
“In lieu of land we have paid the parties compensation between Rs 50 and Rs 68 per square metre according to the circle rate,” Yadav said. “We are in talks with Mohan Meakins and Durga Enterprises and other private parties for land and it is final phase and I hope that land acquisition for the Metro project would be completed shortly” Yadav said.
When asked about NHAI, which had refused to part with a 3.5-km stretch of land at the Mohan Nagar-Meerut Road T-point segment, Yadav said, “Talks with the NHAI are under way and the issue will be sorted out with shortly,” Yadav said.
The ownership of the 3.5-km stretch currently lies with the NHAI. But under a swap pact, the NHAI was to hand over to the GDA the Mohan Nagar-Meerut Road T-point segment so that Metro construction work could go on unhindered, and take over from the civic body the 3.6-km-long New Link Road, currently under construction to link NH-24 with NH-58.
