DMRC & JICA Ink ₹ 4309.53 crore Loan for Delhi Metro Phase 4

Delhi (Metro Rail News): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that they have received financial closure for the three remaining corridors of Delhi Metro Phase 4. 

  • Inderlok – Indraprstha
  • Saket G Block – Lajpat Nagar
  • Rithala – Narela – Nathurpur

DMRC has achieved the financial closure through the signing of the first tranche of the loan agreement between the Government of India and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

 The Government of India and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have signed the loan agreement of  ₹ 4309.53 crores ( Equivalent to about 79,726 million Japanese Yen). 

JICA has provided financial cooperation for the Delhi Metro project since its initial stages,  impacting mass transportation in India’s national capital and surrounding areas.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. TAKEUCHI Takuro, Chief Representative of JICA India, stated, “The rapid increase in urbanization and vehicle ownership in Delhi has led to severe traffic congestion and environmental challenges. The expansion of the Delhi Metro network is a critical step toward addressing these issues by providing a reliable, efficient, and eco-friendly mass transit solution. JICA remains committed to supporting India’s efforts in developing sustainable urban infrastructure, and this project will contribute significantly to improving the quality of life for Delhi’s residents.”

Future Projection

Following this development, the tendering process is expected to advance, leading to the initiation of construction activities.

Bidding Process

DMRC invited bids for this contract and received bids from 4 firms. Technical bids were opened on 11 February 2025 and technical evaluation of the submitted bids took place on 21 March 2025. 

Financial Bids were opened on 21 March and financial evaluation happened on 2 April revealing that Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Company Ltd. is the Lowest Bidder for the Contract. 

Furthermore, financial bids were opened on 20 March and financial evaluation of bids took place on 27 March 2025 revealing that SS.SS Construction Pvt. Ltd. is the lowest bidder for the contract.

DMRC receives LoA for Chennai Metro Phase 2’s O&M Contract

Chennai ( Metro Rail News): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) has received  Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for the operations & maintenance (O&M) contract worth Rs. 5870 crores for Chennai Metro Phase 2. 

As per the Release, Thiru. M.A. Siddique, Managing Director of CMRL, handed over the LoA to Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, on 2nd April 2025 in the presence of Thiru. S. Krishnamoorthy, Director (Finance) of CMRL, Dr. Amit Kumar Jain, Director (Operations & Services) of DMRC and other senior officials of CMRL and DMRC.

BEML Bags Rolling Stock Contract for Bangalore Metro Phase 2 (Reach 6)

Bangalore (Metro Rail News): BEML has received an additional contract valued at over ₹405 crore from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). This contract encompasses the supply of seven additional metro trains, comprising a total of 42 cars, for the Reach 6 of  Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 2 

Contract Details     

This Additional contract is the part of contract 5 RS-DM, which was awarded to BEML in August 2023 at Rs. 3, 177 Crores. 

Scope of Work: The contract includes the supply of 7 additional metro trains ( 42 Coaches) for the Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 2 (Reach 6).

Rolling Stock Contract 5 RS-DM 

BEML secured Package 5 RS-DM from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation ( BMRCL ) in August 2023 at Rs. 3,177 Crores. 

The contract included the supply of 53 Trainsets ( 318 Coaches)  for the Bangalore Metro Phase 2, Phase 2A and Phase 2B. 

Funding: As per the BMRCL, the contract would be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency ( JICA). 

Train Fleet for Package 5 RS-DM 

The addition of 7 new metro trains will bring the total number of trains from 53 (318 coaches) to 60 (360 coaches) for the rolling stock contract 5 RS-DM of Bangalore Metro. 

About New Rolling Stocks 

The new train sets supplied by BEML will consist of 6 coaches each. All coaches will be equipped with the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling System. 

The new metro trains will incorporate advanced technological systems which will provide real-time station updates enhancing Passengers convenience.

Kanpur (Metro Rail News): Kanpur Metro progressed as Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (KPIL) – Gulermak JV deployed their third TBM, “Parvati”, under Package KNPCC-11 at Rawatpur Station of Line 2, which spans 8.38 km from Agriculture University to Barra-8.

About TBM Parvati 

TBM Parvati (S-840C) is a Ø6.5m refurbished Herrenknecht mixed-shield Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) machine. TBM Parvati is the 7th TBM commissioned to construct underground tunnels of the Kanpur Metro Phase 1 Project. 

TBM Parvati is the third TBM deployed for Package KNPCC-11 after  TBM Gomati (S-1408A) and Saraswati (S-839C). TBM Saraswati recently started tunneling for Package KNPCC-11. 

For its first assignment, TBM Parvati will construct a 750 m tunnel for the upline from Rawtapur to Kakedeo. 

TBM Saraswati will only excavate and build one tunnel (Rawatpur – Agriculture Ramp), while on the other hand, TBM Paravati will build two tunnels. 

For its second Assignment, the TBM Parvati will be dragged towards Kakadeo’s Station box and will construct a 700 m tunnel towards Double Pullia. 

Package KNPCCC-11 

 KPIL – Gulermak JV bagged Package KNPCC-11 from Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC)  in December 2023 at Rs. 762.50 crore and a 30-month deadline. 

The awarded contract will be responsible for the construction of twin tunnels for Line 2’s underground section, which spans 4.08 km between the Agricultural depot and Double Pulia ramp. Additionally, the package also includes the construction of 3 underground stations.

The Yellow Line of Delhi Metro spans 47.2 km from Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre in Gurugram through 37 stations

Brief Scope of Work: Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC) of Platform Screen Door (PSD) System installed on Line-2 for 03 years.

Bidding Process 

The technical bids for this contract were opened on 22 November 2024, revealing that 4 firms submitted bids for the contract. Furthermore, the Technical evaluation of the submitted bids took place on 26 December 2024. 

In the process, the bids of two firms, MCML Projects Private Limited and Technocrats Kohlhauer Infrastructure Private Limited, were rejected. 

On 26 December 2024, financial bids were opened, and on 24 March 2025, financial evaluation took place, revealing that Rt. Vision Technologies P. Ltd is the lowest bidder for the contract.

Recent Update on Line 2 ( Yellow Line ) 

Recently, Mr Tokhan Sahu, Minister of MoHUA (Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs ), approved the Yellow Line extension between Samaypur Badli and Sonipat via Nathupur.

Mr Tokhan Sahu confirmed the approval of Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line Expansion through a written statement to the Lok Sabha.

Bangalore (Metro Rail News): The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and Embassy Office Parks REIT ( Embassy REIT) have signed a contract to construct the Kadubeesanahalli Metro Station of the ORR line. The ORR Line (Blue Line) of Bangalore Metro Phase 2A spans 17 km from Central Silkboard to KR Puram through 16 stations.

About Kadubeesanahalli station of Bangalore Metro Phase 2A 

Funding: The construction of the new Kadubeesanahalli metro station will be funded by Vikas Telecom Private Limited (VTPL), which is part of Embassy REIT, through a Rs. 100 Crore investment. 

As per the release, BMRCL will be offering the Naming Rights of Kadubeesanahalli Metro Station along with advertisement, commercial space and direct connectivity for a period of 30 years. 

The new station will be named ‘Embassy TechVillage Kadubeesanahalli Metro Station’.
