CMRL Appoints SYSTRA to Prepare DPRs of Chennai Metro Extensions

0

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Systra MVA Consulting bagged consultancy contracts for preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of two major metro line extensions planned under the Chennai Metro rail project. The consultancy work is scheduled to be completed within 120 days.

The formalisation of these agreements took place during a signing ceremony that included M.A. Siddique, Managing Director of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL); T. Archunan, Director of Projects; and Parveen Kumar, Senior Vice President at Systra MVA Consulting

Project 1

  • Contract Value:  INR 38.2 lakh

The first project involves the approximately 7 km extension of Corridor 4, which will extend from Lighthouse to the High Court

This expansion is anticipated to improve connectivity along Marina Beach and facilitate better access to critical government establishments, including the Secretariat. The extension is designed to accommodate both daily commuters and tourists, addressing the increasing demand for efficient transit options in the densely populated regions of Chennai.

Project 2

  • Contract Value: INR 96.2 lakh

The second project envisions a new 21 km corridor that will connect Tambaram, Medavakkam, Pallikaranai, and Velachery with Guindy Metro Station on Corridor 1.

This corridor aims to integrate the southern suburbs of Chennai with the existing metro network, thereby enhancing multimodal connectivity at key junctions, including Tambaram, Medavakkam, Velachery, and Guindy. This integration is expected to facilitate more seamless transfers between various transit modes.

The DPRs will include a thorough assessment that encompasses alignment options, ridership projections, potential for multimodal integration, and technical feasibility. These reports will serve as essential groundwork for informed decision-making regarding project execution and funding.
