Delhi Metro|DMRC to open viewer gallery at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station for commuters

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to open the Viewers Gallery, part of unpaid area of the Rajiv Chowk Metro station for the passengers from tomorrow i.e, Saturday, 8th August 2015. The move is aimed at facilitating smooth movement of passengers from one side of the station to another, to avoid unnecessary congestion inside the paid area.

With the opening of this Gallery passengers may now use it as follows:

  1. Rajiv Chowk Metro station has got eight Entry Gates numbering from 1 to 8.
  1. Passengers entering from Gate No. 1 to 4 (Towards B & D Block of Rajiv Chowk) reach Platform No. 3 of the station going towards Noida/Vaishali.
  1. Whereas, passengers entering from Gate No. 5 to 8 (Towards A & F Block of Rajiv Chowk) reach Platform No. 4 of the station going towards Dwarka.

 

  1. It has been observed that generally 70 % of the passengers i.e, around 35,000 passengers (entry/exits of Rajiv Chowk is approx. 50,000) enter the station from Gate No. 5 to 8 and land up at Dwarka side platform and then cross the footover bridge (situated inside the station) to go towards Noida/Vaishali side platform.
  2. Similarly, the passengers who enter from Gate No. 1 to 4 but have to go towards Dwarka side, they also cross the footover bridge to go to the right platform.
  1. This was causing unnecessary congestion on A and F block entries of the station whereas, B and D block entries is hardly being used and also causing unnecessary criss-cross movement of passengers on footover bridge and within the paid area of the station.
  1. Now, with the opening of this Gallery, passengers, even if they enter from a wrong side entry gate for their respective platforms, would be encouraged/allowed to use the Gallery, which falls in the unpaid area and with a minimal movement of few meters they will be able to reach right entry side of the station and enter for right platform.
  1. This will avoid distribution of passengers evenly in the paid area as people will be able to reach right side of the platform by taking the right entry side from Viewers Gallery itself and will also reduce criss-cross movement on FOB leading to a better passenger management at the interchange station which witnesses an average footfall of around 5 lakh daily.

DMRC has installed adequate signages at the entry gates, station area and viewers gallery to inform the passengers about platforms, destinations, direction of movement, gates to be used etc.

Lucknow Metro|Public Investment Board approves Lucknow Metro Rail project

Lucknow: The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) on yesterday got clearance from the Public Investment Board (PIB), Government of India. This now paves way for LMRC to get funds for Metro project from the Central Government and also from foreign funding agencies.

In a meeting today at New Delhi before the Board which was chaired by Secretary (Department of Expenditure), Ministry of Finance, Government of India; Shri Alok Ranjan, Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh and Chairman/LMRC along with Shri Sadakant, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Planning Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and Shri Kumar Keshav, Managing Director/LMRC apprised the Board on the details of Lucknow Metro Rail project.

Shri Kumar Keshav, Managing Director/LMRC, made a presentation on the status and progress of the Metro project and its recent updates which was appreciated by the Public Investment Board (PIB). The Board finally gave its clearance to the Lucknow Metro Rail project.

LMRC has achieved the distinction of being the fastest Metro construction ever been undertaken in the country as the rate of progress of the civil infrastructure works is tremendous ever since the work began in September, 2014. Lucknow Metro is committed to complete the 8.5 km priority Metro section from Transport Nagar to Charbagh by December, 2016.

Varanasi Metro|RITES submits DPR for Varanasi Metro Rail project

Varanasi: Divisional commissioner Nitin Ramesh Gokarn convened a high-powered meeting with officials of Varanasi Development Authority (VDA), Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) and representatives of other organizations on Wednesday. The detailed project report (DPR) of the proposed Metro rail was presented by Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) on the occasion.

The representatives of RITES explained the DPR of the Metro rail via a power-point presentation and informed about the Metro corridors in detail. It was opined that the DPR will only be finalized after seeking suggestions from the people.

Soon, the suggestions came flooding in. While some suggested that proposed corridors 1 and 2 be linked with Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) via Lahartara and Cantt, others recommended Lamahi and Babatpur airport. Some even propounded that Rajatalab, Pandeypur, Ashapur, Vishwasundari bridge, Ring road and Mughalsarai be linked with Metro corridors and exclusive parking arrangements be made.

The commissioner said that development of Metro rail would result in overall development of the city. He asked the representatives of RITES to consider the suggestions of the people. District magistrate Rajmani Yadav said that the focus of the Metro rail project will be on city as well as its development and due consideration will be given to the suggestions received by the denizens.

Delhi Metro|DMRC installs nine new solar power facilities on Badarpur-Faridabad section

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has installed nine new solar power generation facilities in the stations and the depot of the Badarpur – Faridabad Metro corridor for partial fulfillment of the energy requirements of that corridor.

These solar power plants with a total generation capacity of 1,660.4 kWp, have been installed under RESCO (Renewable Energy Supply Company) Model, wherein the capital cost has been invested by the Solar Developer and DMRC has signed the Power Purchase Agreement for 25 years. DMRC shall only pay Energy charges for the actual energy generated.

The power generated will be used for the lighting and other auxiliary requirements of the station and depot buildings. The plants have been installed at NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur,Sector-28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad,Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk,Escorts Mujesar with 151.2 kWp capacity (each location) and at Ajronda depot with 452 kWp capacity.

The power Receiving Sub Station (RSS) of the Faridabad corridor has already been developed as a green building with a 50 kWp solar plant, rain water harvesting and constructed wet land type of  Sewage treatment plant facilities.

In total, DMRC has so far commissioned solar power facilities with generation capacity of approx. 2,800 kWp with plants at Dwarka Sector 21, Anand Vihar, Pragati Maidan, Metro Enclave, Yamuna bank station, Yamuna bank depot, Faridabad RSS, ITO, Ajronda depot and the Faridabad metro stations.

Further, the equipment for solar plant of 200 kWp capacity at Sarai station has also arrived at site and the installation work will commence shortly. In addition to this, the study for installing solar panels on the Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) providing connectivity to the commuters across the National Highways has also been undertaken.

As per its solar mission, DMRC will create facilities for the generation of 20 MWp out of which work has been awarded for 11 MWp so far.  DMRC is committed to install solar plants with generation capacity of 50 MWp in its existing and upcoming network.

Hyderabad Metro|HMR authorities have identified 35 key obstructing properties in different stretches

New Delhi: The Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) authorities have identified 35 key properties in different stretches where the work was halted because the properties acquisition was mired in court cases. The same was presented to the Telangana Chief Secretary, Rajiv Sharma, to be taken up with the Advocate General for expediting the court cases.

About 103 more properties are still be acquired for road widening in the three Metro Rail corridors and prominent properties such as the Transstroy building in Jubilee Hills, Rehmat Complex at Ameerpet Junction, Nandakumar/Padmahamsa Apartments near Sangeet Junction, RAK Ceramics building at Begumpet, etc., which are critical for the Metro Rail’s right of way need to be taken over.

The land acquisition process for these buildings is at various stages, HMR MD N.V.S. Reddy informed the special task force meeting on Tuesday that nine key properties have been taken over in the last couple of weeks clearing the way for faster progress of works at the new Gandhi Hospital, RTC Crossroads, Chikkadpally, Narayanguda, Begumpet, Road No.5 of Jubilee Hills and so on.

Giving a glimpse of the progress of works so far, Mr. Reddy has indicated that the Metro Rail construction activities have gathered speed and 1967 foundations (52 km) and 1860 pillars (49 km) have been laid and that 47 km of the total 72 km viaduct has also been completed.

The Chief Secretary wanted the concessionaire L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) to speed up the works since right of way has been given after taking due permissions from the traffic police, Water board, power utilities in several places and that barricades have to be removed soon after the completion of works with tighter timelines.

The shift of utilities should be faster in Musheerabad-Narayanaguda stretch of corridor-II – JBS to Falaknuma and Madhuranagar-Yousufguda-Krishnanagar stretch of corridor-III – Nagole to Raidurg, and closely monitor their progress. Mr. Sharma has also asked GHMC to share junction improvement plans in the Metro Rail corridors with the traffic police before tendering.

Delhi Metro|DMRC achieves 1351mtr long tunnel breakthrough at Lal Quila

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on August 4, achieved a tunnel breakthrough of Delhi Metro’s Phase – III project at the Lal Qila Metro station by completing the tunneling on the under construction Kashmere Gate – Lal Qila stretch of the Central Secretariat – Kashmere Gate Corridor.

The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) emerged at Lal Qila metro station site after making a 1351 metre-long tunnel from Kashmere Gate. This TBM was lowered at Kashmere Gate shaft on 6th December 2014 and after assembly of the TBM below the ground the initial drive began on 26th December 2014. The maximum depth of the tunnel is 16 mts below the earth’s surface.

The tunnel passed beneath the existing Kashmere Gate elevated Metro Station. The distance of between the tunnel wall and Pile of the existing metro station is 1.2 metres. The tunnel also passed under the historical Dara Shikoh Library, Lothian Bridge (Delhi – Shahdara Northern Railway Line), Magazine Gate and Ambedkar University.

Earth Pressure Balancing Type TBM was used to concrete the tunnel. A total of 967 rings have been inserted simultaneously along with the tunneling process. Each ring has five segments (each 275 mm thick) and the length of one segment is 1.4 mts. These segments and rings are connected by using bolts. The internal diameter of the tunnel is 5.8 mts. The casting of the segments was done at the Mundka Casting Yard. Approx. 46, 000 cu. mts. excavation was done in     working days. The TBM used to make the tunnel is from Terratech.

M/s Metrostroy Era JV is the contractor for the tunneling work of the stretch from Kashmere Gate to Lal Qila metro station. The stations at Kashmere Gate and Lal Qila are also being constructed by the same contractor using Cut & Cover technique. Another TBM is working on the Down Line. The Down Line tunnel is 1356 mts long.

This section is a part of the 9.37 km long Central Secretariat – Kashmere Gate corridor. The section from Central Secretariat to ITO which is 4.2 kms long is already operational for the general public.

Vizag Metro|Vizag metro rail DPR to be submitted soon

Visakhapatnam: The detailed project report (DPR) of the much-awaited Vizag Metro Rail (VMR) project is likely to be submitted to the state government in the next few weeks. The report is presently in its final stage of preparation by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

According to a state government official, who was a part of the VMR team along with DMRC officials, around 85-90% work on the DPR is already over and DMRC will be submitting it sometime this month. DMRC is presently collating information from various studies such as soil test and environmental impact that have been conducted by the respective agencies since March.

“The DPR was supposed to be submitted to the state government by June 15.

But the last minute decision to extend the Madhurawada-NAD Junction route up to Gajuwaka delayed the submission,” the AP government official told TOI.

“With the changes, the total metro rail stretch has increased to 45 km, including the 8.1 km of stretch from Madhurawada-NAD Junction to Gajuwaka,” he added.

“For the Vijayawada metro rail project, Rs 206 crore has been estimated as the cost per km. If we go by the same expenditure estimates, the total cost of the Vizag metro rail project will be around Rs 9,270 crore,” the official said, adding that priority will be given to the Madhurawada-Gajuwaka route as it runs parallel to National Highway-16 and vehicular traffic on the route is higher as compared to the other two routes – Gurudwara Junction to Beach Road and Thatichetlapalem to Old Post Office.

Chennai Metro|New security chief inspects stations and control centre

Chennai: Senior IPS officer K Bhavaneeshwari who took charge as chief security officer of Chennai metro rail on Monday inspected the stations and control centre and said a detailed plan would be chalked out to provide security cover. She took over after the government decided security of metro rail stations would be entrusted to the state police.

Police protection are deemed necessary for metro rail stations because such mass rapid systems are vulnerable to terror attacks. A force trained in detection of explosives and crime without affecting commuters and operations could be deployed at the stations.

“A detailed plan will be prepared in a couple of days. We will use existing personnel of private agencies. Police personnel will be posted in key areas as soon we get a dedicated team,” she told mediapersons.

CMRL officials took the officer around the Operation Control Centre and briefed her on handling trains.

They pointed out the locations and points requiring special focus in terms of security.

PIS Security Agency and SIS Security Agency are currently in charge of security of metro rail stations with Peter, a retired armed reserve deputy commissioner of police, in overall charge.

“If possible, I will also visit metro rail networks in other cities to study safety aspects followed,” she added. The detailed security draft will include plans and proposals for acquiring gadgets to be installed on the periphery of metro rail stations. “As only a small stretch of 10 km is operational, it will be easy to study and fix issues immediately. Once the other lines are opened, we can implement the same security measures in all these metro railway stations,” she said.

In view of the heightened security threat, Delhi metro rail hired ther Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to guard its stations. Kolkata metro stations are guarded by Railway Protection Force, while Mumbai metro stations are provided security cover by the Maharastra state special police force.

Delhi Metro|DMRC proposes 5 slab fare system to meet operational costs

New Delhi: Faced with rising operational costs, Delhi Metro has proposed a five-slab fare system in the range of Rs. 10-50 to mitigate the “adverse” impact on its financial health. The proposals, if accepted, would replace the existing 15 fare slabs ranging from Rs. 8 to Rs. 30. The new fares would be Rs. 10, Rs. 20, Rs. 30, Rs. 40 and Rs. 50, a Metro official privy to the developments said.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Chief Mangu Singh has repeatedly written to the Ministry of Urban Development since 2012 in this regard, which has administrative control over the body.

Earlier this year, Retired Justice AK Shrivastava was named as the head of the fare fixation committee, but it was scrapped later. Delhi Metro can revise its fares only on recommendation of the three-member committee constituted by the Union government from time to time.

Lucknow Metro|LMRC depot set-up work in full swing, completed by Sept. 2016

Lucknow: The work for Transport Nagar depot cum maintenance workshop of Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has gained momentum and is slated to be completed by September, 2016 to ensure that the Rolling Stock (Metro Train) arrives in depot for testing and commissioning before the start of trial runs.

The LMRC engineers posted for this depot work are leaving no stone unturned to complete this project within the stipulated 18 months of time- frame as envisaged in the contract that was awarded for the work in April, 2015.

At present, the civil, electrical & maintenance works for construction of depot including the structural, plumbing, drainage, external development, road works, electrical, mechanical etc. are going at a rapid pace with the work of other departments going in- tandem.

Lucknow Metro’s train cum maintenance depot will be spread over 46.5 acres of land and will have the modern state-of-the-art-facilities of Automatic Train Washing plant, Inspection Bay, Workshop, Stabling Lines, Electric Sub- Station/Receiving Sub- Station, Training Institute, Depot Control Centre (DCC), Operation Control Centre (OCC), Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), Electric Traction Unit/OHE Equipment Room and other related technical functionaries.

All the trains shall we washed automatically while entering the Train Depot at pre- defined intervals. The routine maintenance shall be carried out in the inspection bays. Major repairs and overhauls shall be carried out in the workshop. One of the inspection lines is proposed to be provided with retractable Over Head Equipment (OHE) so that in order to attend to the roof mounted equipments of the train, the OHE can be slewed with the push of switch.

“The construction and completion of this depot is very crucial from the point of view of commissioning of Metro trains as the trains will directly be brought to Inspection Bay & Workshop before they are inducted to the mainline for trails. Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) is determined to complete the depot project timely and successfully within the sanctioned budget.”, as per LMRC spokesperson.
