Bangalore Metro Update: Driverless Metro Coaches to be Active on Yellow Line by Q1, 2024

BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): Bengaluru’s first driverless metro is likely to arrive by October. It’s gonna be Bengaluru’s first experience with driverless metros running on the route. It aims to boost connectivity to areas that inhabit big companies like Infosys & Biocon, South Bengaluru.

The metros are being manufactured by the China Rolling Railway Stock Corporation (CRRSC) and not the usual BEML that supplies metro coaches to BMRCL. These would be 6-coach trains and only 12 coaches i.e., 2 trains will be arriving from China while the rest 204 Coaches will be manufactured by Titagarh Rail in India, only.

These driverless coaches will be introduced as a part of the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) System, commonly known as “Driverless Technology”. It will also reduce the headway to 90 seconds from the existing two & a half minutes. Although it’s going to be driverless trains, the BMRCL has decided to deploy Loco Pilots to allay passengers.

While it was to be made operational by 2021, the deadline was extended many times. The yellow line will go to stations like Bommamanahalli, BTM Layout, HSR Layout, Jayadeva Hospital, etc.
