Ceigall India Secures Key Contracts for Kanpur and Agra Metro Projects

1

LUCKNOW (Metro Rail News): Ceigall India Ltd. (CIL) has been awarded contracts by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) for the Kanpur and Agra Metro projects, marking the company’s vigorous entry into metro construction.

Kanpur Metro Line 2’s Contract KNPCC-12

For the Kanpur Metro, CIL has secured the KNPCC-12 contract valued at Rs. 427.11 crore, focusing on the civil construction of an 8.38 km stretch on Line-2, which spans from Agriculture University to Barra-8. This package, a part of the ambitious 32.38 km Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project, includes two key elevated sections encompassing 4.3 km of the total distance. The southern section will feature a 3.745 km viaduct connecting Double Pullia Ramp to Barra-8 with four elevated stations, while a shorter segment north of Rawatpur will include a single station at Agriculture University.

Bidding for KNPCC-12 began in November 2023 with an estimated project cost of Rs. 484 crore and a 30-month completion deadline. Ceigall emerged as the lowest bidder amongst five competitors, a pivotal moment highlighting the firm’s competitive edge and commitment to enhancing urban mobility in Kanpur.

Additionally, CIL has been awarded the AGCC-05 contract for the Agra Metro, amounting to Rs. 266.94 crore. This contract encompasses the civil construction of a 3.725 km elevated section of the 29.40 km Agra Metro Phase 1 project, extending from RBS Ramp in Khandari to Sikandra with three stations along NH-19. This marks the completion of contracting for the main-line construction work of Line-1 from Taj East Gate to Sikandra.

The AGCC-05 bidding process initiated in November 2023, and with a swift turnaround from bid opening to contract awarding, Ceigall stood out among five bidders. This efficiency in the selection process underscores UPMRC’s confidence in Ceigall’s capabilities to deliver on such a critical infrastructure project.

These contracts signify Ceigall’s first ventures into metro construction, expanding their portfolio beyond their established presence in highway and expressway projects. The company is poised to start preliminary groundwork by the end of Q2 2024, with full-fledged construction anticipated to commence in Q3 2024.

For both the Kanpur and Agra metros, Ceigall’s involvement is a testament to their growing influence in the infrastructure sector, bringing new job opportunities and promising to accelerate the development of these vital urban mobility projects.

With both Kanpur and Agra metro projects moving forward, Ceigall’s dual contract win with UPMRC marks a significant milestone for the company and the cities involved, paving the way for modern, efficient, and sustainable urban transit solutions.

KOLKATA (Metro Rail News): Jindal Stainless (India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer) supplies stainless steel for India’s first underwater metro line, which opened for the public recently. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated this landmark project on March 6, valued at INR ₹4,965 crore, upgrading the country’s transportation infrastructure.

The underwater metro, running from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan on the Green Line, covers 4.8 km under the river Hooghly in just 45 seconds. It forms part of the more significant East-West Metro corridor linking Howrah Maiden to Salt Lake Sector V, a major IT hub in West Bengal.

The tunnel constructed under the river for this metro line descends to a depth of 32 meters beneath the water level, showcasing the engineering marvel achieved through collaborative efforts.

Jindal Stainless supplies SS 301LN, a premium austenitic grade known for its corrosion resistance, for fabricating various components of the Kolkata Metro. Its corrosion resistance ensures minimal maintenance requirements, making it an ideal choice for long-term urban infrastructure projects.

“The launch of the underwater metro corridor in Kolkata stands as a powerful testament to India’s infrastructural capabilities. We congratulate the Government of India on achieving this milestone. The project not only augments connectivity but also exemplifies the transformative potential of stainless steel in urban infrastructure development.” says Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless.

The company also supplied stainless steel 301LN for the Meerut metro trainsets, a vital component of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). This technologically advanced metro system boasts stainless steel bodies and aims to revolutionise urban transportation. Its design speed of 135 kmph makes it the fastest metro train in India.

Jindal Stainless (Est. 1970), with an annual turnover of INR 35,700 crore (USD 4.30 billion) in FY23, emerged as India’s leading stainless steel manufacturer. It is targeting an annual melt capacity of 3 million tonnes in FY24.

Jindal Stainless’s dedication to sustainability is evident in its manufacturing processes. It prioritises scrap utilisation in electric arc furnaces, minimises greenhouse gas emissions, and promotes a circular economy. The company aims to reduce carbon emission intensity by 50% before FY 2035 and achieve Net Zero by 2050, reaffirming its commitment to a greener future.

With India’s journey of infrastructural development, Jindal Stainless continues to be a driving force. Powering monumental projects with sustainable stainless steel solutions, it is shaping the nation’s urban landscape for generations to come.

Bangalore Metro Invites Bids for the Feasibility Study of Double Decker Flyovers on Its Three Corridors

0

BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has invited bids to conduct a feasibility study for constructing a double-decker flyover.

The 3 Corridors

The three corridors under consideration in the feasibility study to construct A double-decker flyover are:

  1. JP Nagar 4th Phase – Hebbal (29 km),
  2. Hosahalli – Kadabagere (11.45 km)
  3. Sarjapur – Ibbalur (ORR Junction 14 km) & Agara-Koramangala 3rd Block (2.4 km) on the  Sarjapur-Hebbal corridor (37Km).

Out of the three, the JP Nagar 4th Phase-Kempapura stretch and the Hosahalli-Kadabagere line have been pending approval before the Central Government since November 2022, while the Sarjapur-Hebbal corridor still needs approval from the state government.

A conundrum of Goals

As eminent people have underlined, there is a high chance that the provision of double-decker flyovers may hinder the ROI and further success of the metro line in Bangalore. The provision of double-decker flyovers will shoot up the project costs. So, the problem here lies on two ends:

  1. Affected ridership of Metro
  2. Escalated Project Costs

Necessity

Concerns exist regarding constructing an end-to-end double-decker flyover for the metro and private vehicles, which makes it necessary to conduct a feasibility study to ascertain the need. Only the feasibility study can determine the double-decker flyover’s proper alignments and needs, accommodating the cost conundrum and metro ridership.

Bangalore Metro

Bengaluru Metro, known as Namma Metro, is an Urban Mass Rapid Transit system. It is the fourth-longest operational metro network in India. This Metro project consists of:

  1. Two operational lines– Purple & Green with 51 stations & a composite length of 72.17 Kms and
  2. 6 Under-Construction Lines– with 68 stations & a composite length of 99.296 Kms

Bangalore Metro recorded an average daily ridership of 6.88 lakh in December. The much-awaited Purple Line, Running between Chellaghatta and Whitefield, is operational. Additionally, BMRCL has begun acquiring land for Phase 3.

Bangalore Metro will also be the second metro system in India to employ the ATO technology on its upcoming Yellow line. It has also introduced innovative services like Group QR and others to increase its attractiveness as the First-Choice Transport system for the traffic-packed city of Bengaluru.
