Central Government Approves Delhi Metro’s Two Corridors Today

NEW ELHI (Metro Rail News): Through its cabinet, the Central government has approved the two metro corridors of the Delhi metro today. 

The 2 Corridors 

The two corridors slated for approval are: ‘

  1. Lajpat Nagar to GBlock in Saket 
  2. Inderlok to Indraprastha 

Lajpat Nagar to GBlock in Saket 

A 7.96 Km corridor will connect Lajpat Nagar with the G-block in Saket. The Lajpat Nagar—Saket G-block corridor will connect the Silver, Magenta, Pink, and Violet Lines.

Inderlok to Indraprastha 

A 12.37  Km corridor connects Inderlok with Indraprastha, with 10 stations with 11.349 kms of underground lines and 1.028 kms of elevated lines. It will be an extension of the Green Line and will provide interchange with the Red, Yellow, Airport Line, Magenta, Violet, and Blue Lines. 

Project Cost & Funding

The total project cost of these two corridors of Delhi Metro’s Phase IV project is Rs.8,399 crore, which will be sourced from the Government of India, the Government of Delhi, and international funding agencies.

Connectivity Boost 

The Inderlok – Indraprastha Line will improve connectivity for residents of the Bahadurgarh region in Haryana. Commuters from these areas can now use the Green Line to directly reach Indraprastha and other central and east Delhi destinations.

Delhi Metro 

The Delhi Metro is currently constructing an additional 65 kilometres of network as part of its fourth phase expansion, which is expected to be completed by March 2026. This expansion will be rolled out in stages. With an existing network spanning 391 kilometres and encompassing 286 stations, the Delhi Metro is one of the rapidly expanding metro systems globally, showcasing its remarkable growth trajectory.

Bhubaneswar Metro Invites Bids for Package BBC-04 & BBC-05

BHUBANESWAR (Metro Rail News): Bhubaneshwar metro has invited bids for the civil construction packages BBC-04 and BBC-05.

BBC-04 

The 7.27 km long BBC-04 package falls in the middle of Bhubaneswar’s 26 km Line-1 and will link Acharya Square and KIIT Square via seven elevated stations. It includes Jayadev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square and KIIT Square. 

BBC-05 

The 10.970 km long Package BBC-05 falls on the northern end of Line-1, linking KIIT Square and Trisulia Square via six elevated stations: Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Barang Station, Phulapokhari, and Trisulia Square.

For BBC-04 

  • Estimated Cost: Rs. 664.06 Crore
  • Pre-bid Meeting: March 19, 2024 at 11 am
  • Bid Submission Deadline: April 22, 2024 at 3 pm
  • Technical Bid Opening: April 23, 2024 at 3 pm

Scope of the Contract 

The contract scope entails Part Design and Construction of an Elevated Viaduct and Seven Elevated Stations. Jayadev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square and KIIT Square (excluding Architectural finishing) from Chainage 7747.00 to 15017.00 of Bhubaneswar Metro Phase-I MRTS. 

For BBC-05 

  • Estimated Cost: Rs. 869.71 Crore
  • Pre-bid Meeting: March 20, 2024 at 11 am
  • Bid Submission Deadline: April 22, 2024 at 3 pm
  • Technical Bid Opening: April 23, 2024 at 3 pm

Scope of the contract 

The contract scope entails Part Design and Construction of an Elevated Viaduct and Six Elevated Stations. Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Barang Station, Phulapokhari, Trisulia Square (excluding Architectural finishing) from Chainage 15017.00m to 25987.78m and including ramp for Depot entry of Bhubaneswar Metro Phase-I MRTS

Bhubaneshwar Metro Phase 01 

Bhubaneshwar Metro Phase 01 will span approximately 26 kilometres from the Airport to Trishulia Square. With an estimated expenditure of Rs 6,255 Crore, the project received approval for its Detailed Project Report (DPR) from the state government on October 7, 2023.

The Metro Rail Project’s central depot will be near Trisulia Square. This depot will house the command and control centre and the essential facilities for stabilising the metro trains.

Connectivity Enhancement

Introducing the metro is poised to significantly enhance connectivity within Bhubaneswar by linking key central locations. Plans entail extending the metro network to connect Puri with the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar.

Pune Metro Rail Project Receives IGBC Platinum Rating for Environmental Excellence

PUNE (Metro Rail News): The Maha Metro’s Pune Metro Rail Project has been honoured with the highest rating of the prestigious ‘Project Award for IGBC’, Platinum Rating for the 07 Elevated stations, namely ‘PCMC, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Bhosari, Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, Dapodi, Bopodi. Platinum certification is the highest recognition from the various categories of IGBC awards. Pune Metro received the IGBC certification on 19th February 2024.

Pune Metro Rail Project consists of the North-South Corridor (Purple line) and the East-West Corridor (Aqua line), totalling 33.2 km and 30 stations. The elevated section is 27.2 km, and the underground section is 6 km. 23.66 km is currently open for public use, and work on the remaining 9 km stretch is in full swing.

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), was formed in 2001. It serves as India’s premier certification body and is headquartered in Hyderabad. Additionally, IGBC is one of the five countries represented on the World Green Building Council board, where it engages in discussions on global issues at COP and similar global platforms. The threshold criteria for certification/pre-certification levels are as follows: certified, recognised as best practice; Silver, acknowledged for outstanding performance; Gold, recognised for national excellence; and Platinum rating, recognised as global leadership, representing the highest certification level awarded by IGBC. IGBC acknowledges Green New Buildings that achieve one of the rating above levels with a formal letter of certification and a mountable plaque.

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has launched the IGBC Green Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) rating to encourage green concepts in the design, construction & operation of all new Rail-based MRTS projects. The rating system helps to address National priorities like conserving natural resources, demand-side energy & water efficiency, adopting renewable energy, managing waste and commuter health & comfort. 07 Elevated stations of Pune Metro Rail, namely ‘PCMC, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Bhosari, Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, Dapodi, and Bopodi, were evaluated according to this system and the Final Rating were then given.


In addition to these seven stations, evaluations for other stations, namely Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Ideal Colony, Garware College, Deccan Gymkhana, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan, PMC, Mangalwar Peth, Pune Railway Station, Ruby Hall Clinic in Line 2, and Shivaji Nagar Metro Station and Civil Court Metro Station in Line 1, are currently in progress. In the future, all Metro Lines 1 and 2 stations will be eligible for the IGBC’s topmost rankings.

IGBC CERTIFICATE


The IGBC organised the assessment into six environmental categories, as defined by the IGBC Green Mass Rapid Transit System Rating. These categories include Site Selection and planning, Water Efficiency, Energy Efficiency, Material Conservation, Indoor Environment and comfort, and Innovation in Design and construction. After successfully evaluating all categories, the Pune Metro received the IGBC Platinum certification.

Maha Metro has consistently embraced environmentally friendly practices from the project’s conceptualisation to its implementation. Beginning at the pre-design stage, adopting low-carbon concepts has been integral to every construction phase. Initiatives such as using fly ash bricks, ensuring the adequate disposal of construction and demolition waste, creating airy and comfortable interiors, incorporating energy-efficient designs, implementing rainwater harvesting systems, and extensively utilising solar energy exemplify Maha Metro’s commitment to sustainability. Elaborate landscaping efforts beneath the Pune Metro viaduct further contribute to a holistic approach that significantly reduces energy consumption and the carbon footprint throughout the project’s construction and operational phases.

Also, the Pune Metro project has implemented many measures to minimise the negative impacts of construction activities on the environment. This includes preserving topsoil, implementing wheel washing facilities, and managing waste and pollution effectively. Adequate facilities include personal protective equipment, first-aid and emergency, and sanitation facilities.

Additionally, the project emphasizes seamless integration with other modes of transport, like bus terminals and railway stations, to facilitate commuters’ easy connectivity. Plans for feeder bus services, bicycle parking spaces, and the promotion of alternative fuel vehicles further enhance intermodal commuter transport. Moreover, the project strongly emphasises preserving trees and enhancing vegetation, as evidenced by the extensive tree survey conducted, compensatory afforestation efforts, and native vegetation planning. 

Various measures are also in place to mitigate the urban heat island effect and promote energy efficiency through eco-friendly refrigerants, solar PV systems (Current capacity is 4300 KWp and generating daily average electricity of 20,000 KWh), and efficient water fixtures. Waste management, materials with recycled content, and local sourcing further contribute to the project’s sustainability goals. Additionally, green education, indoor air quality monitoring, and innovation in design and construction underscore the project’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.

RVNL Bags Contract for the Construction of Pune Metro’s Nigdi Extension Stretch

PUNE (Metro Rail News): Pune Metro has declared Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) the lowest bidder for constructing a 4.519 km new viaduct to extend its Purple Line. 

Extension 

The extension aims to connect Pune metro’s Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) metro station to the Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti) metro station. 

Scope of the Contract

The scope of the contract entails the Designing and Construction of an Elevated Viaduct of Length 4.519 Kms between PCMC and NIGDI (Bhakti Shakti) on the North-South Corridor of Pune Metro Rail Project- Reach1 – Extension. 

The Metro Stations

The construction of elevated stations at Chinchwad, Akurdi, and Nigdi along the route will be undertaken through a distinct package, with a tender notice currently awaiting issuance.

RVNL’s Bid: Rs. 339 crore

Approval 

The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs approved the 4.413 Km extension of the Pune metro’s Purple line at an estimated cost of Rs 910.18 Crore. The line is proposed to be extended from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigdi. 

Pune Metro

The proposed expansion will add 4.413 Km to the Pune metro, which already exists at 54.14 Km, divided into three lines, of which 27.15 km is operational.

Maharashtra Government Approves the Wagholi & Chandni Chowk Extensions of the Pune Metro

PUNE (Metro Rail News): Through its cabinet, the Maharashtra government has approved the extension of the Pune Metro’s Wagholi and Chandni Chowk extensions. 

The Extensions 

The extensions included in the approved DPR are: 

  1. Vanaz to Chandni Chowk 
  2. Ramwadi to Wagholi.

Vanaz to Chandni Chowk 

The stretch from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk falls on Line 2A or the Aqua Line. It will be approximately 1.12 km long and consist of two new stations, Kothrud Bus Depot Station and Chandni Chowk Station.

Ramwadi to Wagholi 

The second stretch from Ramwadi to Wagholi is on the Eastern end of the Aqua line of Pune Metro. It will be approximately 11.36 Km long and have 11 stations: Viman Nagar Station, Somnath Nagar Station, Kharadi Bypass Station, Tulaja Bhavani Station, Ubale Nagar Station, Upper Kharadi Road Station, Wagheshwar Temple Station, Wagholi Station, Siddharth Nagar Station, Bakori Phata Station, and Vitthalwadi Station.

Further developments 

The DPR will now be furthered to the central government for the necessary approvals to streamline the project. Gaining approval can take 1.5-2 years. 

Pune Metro 

The Pune metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Pune, encompassing three lines totalling 54.14 km. Currently, two lines are in operation:

  1. Purple Line: Connects PCMC Bhavan to Swargate.
  2. Aqua Line: Runs from Vanaz to Ramwadi.
  3. Line 3: Extends from Hinjawadi to Civil Court via Balewadi.

BHUBANESWAR (Metro Rail News): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited bids for its civil construction Package BBC-03 of Bhubaneswar metro Phase 1. 

Package BBC-03 

It is a 7.122 Km long elevated section of the 26 km long line 1 linking  Capital Hospital to Acharya Vihar Square via six elevated stations. Capital Hospital, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar and Acharya Vihar Square are the six elevated stations.

Specifications of the tender

Specifications of the tender are: 

  • Deadline: 36 months (3 years)
  • Estimated Cost: Rs. 630.65 crore
  • Pre-bid Meeting: March 19, 2024 at 11 am
  • Bid Submission Deadline: April 23, 2024 at 3 pm
  • Technical Bid Opening: April 2024 at 3 pm

Scope of the contract 

Its scope entails designing and constructing an Elevated Viaduct and Six Elevated Stations, viz. Capital Hospital, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar, and Acharya Vihar Square (excluding Architectural finishing )of Bhubaneswar Metro Phase-I MRTS.

Funding 

The package will be entirely financed by the Government of Odisha and other appropriate means of Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL). The tender documents also mention that this is “Non-JICA funded work” to be transparent about the funding. 

Bhubaneshwar Metro Phase:01 

Bhubaneshwar Metro Phase: 01 runs from the Airport to Trishulia Square, approximately 26 Kilometers. It is being built at an expenditure of Rs 6, 255 Crore, for which the state government approved the DPR on October 7, 2023. 

The 1st phase will have 20 stations made up of elevated viaducts. Bhubaneshwar Metro Rail Corporation, a fully-owned entity of the Odisha government, will bear the project’s entire cost. It will have stations as Biju Patnaik Airport, Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Phulapokhari and Trisulia.

The central Depot of the Metro Rail Project will be located near Trisulia Square, where the command and Control centre and the stabilising facilities for the metro trains will be constructed. 

Connectivity Boost 

The project will significantly boost connectivity in Bhubaneswar by connecting central locations. As per the future extension plans, the metro will connect Puri with the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar. 

It was announced by the Chief Minister of Odisha on April 1, the statehood day of Odisha, and will be inaugurated by the CM himself on January 1, 2024.

INDORE (Metro Rail News): Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) announced in its regulatory filing on March 9 that it has received an order from the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation. 

Scope of the Contract 

The contract’s scope includes the design and construction of an elevated viaduct, five elevated metro stations, and a ramp. The stations are: Shaheed Bagh, Khajrana Chauraha, Bengali Chauraha, Patrakar Colony & Palasaia Chauraha. 

Specifications 

The specifications of the contract are as follows: 

  1. Value: Rs 543 Crore 
  2. Duration: 1092 days 

Indore Metro is a mass rapid transit system that MPMRCL built. Phase 01 of the Indore metro is being built at an estimated cost of Rs. 7500 Crores. The metro trains will run 80 km/hr across the 31.5 Km line in Indore with 29 stations.

CEG Bags Design Verification Engineer Contract for Bhopal and Indore Metro Projects

BHOPAL (Metro Rail News): Consulting Engineers Group Ltd. (CEG) has been chosen as the Design Verification Engineer (DVE) for the Phase 1 projects of both Bhopal and Indore Metros, as announced by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Co Limited (MPMRCL). The announcement positions CEG at the forefront of verifying comprehensive design elements across these pivotal projects.

Scope of Contract

Under the contract, CEG’s mandate extends to meticulously verifying architectural, civil, geotechnical, and structural designs alongside water supply, sewage, and drainage systems for elevated and underground stations, including all associated temporary and permanent structures. This encompasses notable packages such as the 5.34 km elevated and 3.39 km underground segments for the Bhopal Metro and similarly expansive sections for the Indore Metro, highlighting the project’s ambitious scope.

Estimated Value

The consultancy service, initially advertised in May 2023 with a projected cost of Rs. 28.71 crore over four years, drew bids from several contenders. However, after a rigorous technical evaluation in October 2023, which saw the disqualification of firms like Egis Rail and STUP Consultants for not meeting tender specifications, CEG emerged as the clear winner with a bid of Rs. 16.30 crore—significantly under MPMRCL’s budget.

This financial efficiency promises a swift move towards contract finalization, bypassing prolonged evaluations and propelling the projects into their next critical phases. With financial bids for packages like BH-03, BH-04, and IN-04 already unveiled and contractor selection underway, the metro projects are steadily advancing towards enhancing Madhya Pradesh’s urban transport landscape.

KOLKATA (Metro Rail News): Kolkata Metro began testing the metro trains on the Naopara-Dumdum Cantonment Stretch of its Yellow Line right before the inauguration of the three new metro stations. 

A Milestone Finds Recognition 

Approximately 13 years later, a milestone was reached following the awarding of a Rs. 127 crore construction contract to Senbo Engineering in June 2011. The contract was for constructing a viaduct between Kestopur Khal (Canal) and the pre-existing ramp of the former Circular Railway’s viaduct. 

Kolkata Metro Yellow Line Trial 02

The project encountered substantial challenges regarding land acquisitions along the canal’s route.

Objective 

The primary purpose of this slow-paced journey undertaken by a Medha train in Kolkata was to verify Schedule of Dimensions (SOD) clearances and to monitor the train’s interaction with the surrounding civil structures, ensuring there were no physical obstructions along the route.

Yellow Line, Kolkata Metro 

The Kolkata Metro Line 4, also called the Yellow Line or the Noapara – Barasat Line, is currently being constructed. Spanning 16.876 kilometres, it will connect Noapara to Barasat in North 24 Parganas, India. 

The majority of its route will be covered via underground viaducts. Initially, the track will be elevated until the Jessore Road Station, after which it will descend underground towards its final destination, Barasat metro station.

In the Agra Metro Project, where six stations have been completed, the design, manufacturing, supply, procurement, assembly, testing and commissioning of QR code-based automatic fare collection systems are being realised by Asis Electronics.
