AGRA (Metro Rail News): On 3 May 2023, the Agra Metro completed its maiden test trial successfully on an 700-meter test track using the third rail technology. The system will make power derivation simpler and more attractive.

The third rail technology is being tested on the Agra Metro train run for the first time. Before this, an electric bogey shunter was used to test the train’s braking and other systems on the track.

The third rail system will shortly be used to test the trains on the elevated section of the viaduct. The third rail system is the one that will supply electricity to Agra Metro trains. A news release from the public relations department of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) described it as a sort of third rail that ran parallel to the track marked with yellow markings.

Significantly, the metro network of two corridors of 29.4 kilometres in length is to be built in Tajnagari. It will have 27 stations. The construction of a 14 km long first corridor between Taj Mahal East Gate and Sikandra is progressing quickly.

Moreover, Fatehabad Road and Basai metro stations have been completed. 13 stations will be constructed in this corridor, including six elevated and seven underground stations.

In addition, a depot is being constructed for this corridor in the PAC premises. Along with this, another 16 km long corridor will be constructed between Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar. It will have 14 elevated stations.

JAMMU & KASHMIR (Metro Rail News): The Chenab Rail Bridge is featured as the world’s most significant Bridge, constructed at 359 meters (around 1,180 feet) above the Chenab River in the Jammu and Kashmir region. It is stated that the Bridge is nearly 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the work of the Bridge will be finished by the end of December 2023 or January 2024. The 1,315 meter-long (4,314 feet) bridge is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which can make Kashmir Valley accessible and seen as a powerful tool for the Social integration and political influence.

By establishing all-weather rail connectivity between the valley and the entire India, connecting Kashmir with the rest of India will specifically improve the region’s industrial and agricultural sectors.

Previously, the only land route connecting Indian-controlled Kashmir to the rest of the country was the winding 300-kilometre (185-mile) Srinagar-Jammu national highway, which closes for part of the winter and is frequently the site of vehicle accidents.

The Chenab Bridge is already hailed as a prime example of his efforts to expand the country’s development.

PUNE (Metro Rail News): The Pune-Nashik Semi High-Speed Railway project has slowed down, having concerns among locals despite receiving in-principle approval from the Maharashtra state government and after passing several approval obstacles.

After meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw in February, the railway route was accepted; the final permission is anticipated following the submission of its report to the Ministry of Railways.

The “Maharail” company filed proposals to various banks for the acquisition of 60% of the funds in the form of loans after consulting with the “GMRT project” at Khodad. The banks are not moving the file, due to lack of a government decision.

The railway project, which requires an investment of 478 hectares of property and is estimated to cost 3,500 crore rupees, will run through 54 villages in the Haveli, Khed, Ambegaon, and Junnar talukas of the Pune district.

Residents are still worried about the potential traffic congestion on city highways that could be prevented with the completion of the Pune-Nashik Semi-High-Speed Railway because there have been no updates on the project’s progress.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): On Saturday, the managing director of Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML), NVS Reddy, travelled to Delhi Airport Metro to observe its operations and facilities.

Senior officials of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) joined the MD and his team as they were transported to the underground Metro station on the airport grounds. The facilities and procedures for baggage transfer to and from the airport were examined.

Then, the group took the Metro to the New Delhi station. The check-in area on the city side was also investigated at the New Delhi station. Officials noted how passengers’ checked baggage was carried from airline counters into containers resting on rollers. The containers were then sealed and automatically rolled into the coach’s luggage area on rollers.

The Delhi Airport Metro line, which has eight stations and a total length of 23 km (16 km underground and 7 km elevated), links the airport to New Delhi’s railway and metro stations. This journey is reached in 19 minutes when travelling at a maximum speed of 95 kmph and an average speed of roughly 65 kmph. The officials said that each container had a distinct RFID tag attached, which allowed the SCADA system to trace the transit of the containers from the city’s Metro station to the airport. According to the officials, bags for passengers were transported safely and on time by the Metro station to the airport, where they were checked into the appropriate planes.

Shivaji Park station and New Delhi Metro stations offer these city check-in services. At least two hours before takeoff, travellers must check their bags at one of these two stations. Once checked in, travellers can take the Metro to the airport, where they only need to go through security to board their flights.

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) has made a decision on the procurement of signalling equipment with Platform Screen Doors (PSD) for the Lokhandwala to Vikhroli Metro 6 corridor as the project enters a critical phase following the resolution of the depot issue. The state has granted permission to construct the facility at Kanjurmarg.

About 65 per cent of the work on the corridor has been completed. This line that spans 16 km would traverse along the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road connecting Vikhroli to Lokhandwala by crisscrossing over railway tracks.

The entire Metro Line-6 is expected to cost around Rs 6,700 crore, and the goal is to finish its development within the next few years.

The development of the 16 km corridor is estimated to take 18 months to finish and MMRDA is expected to invite bids for the depot construction to commence the work.

The upcoming corridor will also feature a Continuous Automatic Train Control System that uses a ‘Communication-based Train Control System‘. This system includes sub-systems such as Automatic Train Protection, Automatic Train Supervision and  Automatic Train Operation, which rely on radio communication between the track and the train.

The new link will be connected to four other metro routes, which includes the currently operating Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7. Furthermore, it will also interconnect with the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro Line 3, which is still in progress and completely underground, and Line 4, which links Wadala to Kasardavali.

RAPIDX Stations Feature the Colours of Peacock Feather

RAPIDX Station
RAPIDX Station

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): India’s first Regional Rail, RAPIDX, Stations are painted in beige and blue tones to reference the colour spectrum of a peacock feather. The Priority Section of stations are ready for use, and this section of the corridor stands out for its beauty while still merging with its surroundings.

One of the primary qualities of RAPIDX trains is speed, which is depicted by the outside roofs of RAPIDX stations that are planned to be curved on both sides. The fact that the width of the stations along the RAPIDX corridor differs from station to station is another factor in the roof’s design. Because of this design element, they appear symmetrical and linear.

In addition, the foot-over bridges constructed as part of multi-modal integration also be painted in the same colours, which is another unique aspect of this design. In other words, they are also covered to shield commuters from the sun and rain during all types of weather.

Furthermore, Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) have been placed for safety at every stop. These PSDs will be connected to the railway’s signalling system, so the train won’t move until both the doors and the PSD are shut.

The NCRTC strives to obtain the highest level of IGBC accreditation to support a clean and green environment for all RAPIDX stations, depots, power substations, and other buildings.

The 17-kilometre Priority Section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor will shortly be opened to the public ahead of schedule.
