PUNE (Metro Rail News): Officials of Maha Metro have announced their plans to boost revenue through branding and advertising strategies on Line 1 and Line 2 of Pune Metro. The officials aim to bring sustainable additional income to Maha-Metro through non-ticket fare revenue. These advertising strategies will benefit local businesses and advertisers in Pune.

Advertisers have received co-branding rights for several metro stations, including Nal Stop, Garware College, Phugewadi, Pune Railway Station, Ruby Hall Clinic, and Kalyani Nagar. Additional advertisement spaces inside and outside the metro stations have been marked off and allotted to contractors.

Maha-Metro released a proposal for licensing semi-naming rights, train wrapping, and advertisement rights for a 15-year period. These rights include spaces at entry-exit points, walls, exteriors, pillars, bridges, foot-overbridges, and train sets. The estimates for these rights vary from station to station.

Current Annual Revenue

The current annual revenue of Maha-Metro is ₹55 to ₹72 lakh from stations on line 2 and line 1. These lines serve 80,000 to 85,000 passengers daily. The fare structure on the Vanaz to Ramwadi corridor ranges from ₹10 to ₹35, while the fare structure on the PCMC to Civil Court corridor ranges from ₹10 to ₹30. The Khadki, Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Yerawada metro stations are under construction. It is planned that these metro stations will function within six months.

The available areas for external advertising in underground stations will include entry-exit structures, parking spaces, and designated areas.

Maha-Metro expects a significant boost in revenue in the upcoming years with the increase in advertising opportunities along with the increasing ridership in Pune Metro.

KOCHI (Metro Rail News): Afcons Infrastructure emerged as the selected bidder for the Kochi Metro Rail Limited’s (KMRL) Phase 2 construction project, specifically for Package KBC3, which focuses on developing the new Pink Line. The announcement came after Afcons was identified as the sole technically qualified contender, placing them in a favorable position for the contract ahead of the financial bid opening. Competing bids from the consortium of KEC International and Sadbhav Engineering, along with Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), were disqualified in December 2023 for not meeting the technical requirements outlined in the tender.

The Phase 2 expansion introduces an 11.2 km elevated line, dubbed the Pink Line, which will feature 11 new stations stretching from JLN Stadium to Kakkanad and Infopark, often referred to as Smart City. The specific segment of the project, Package KBC3, includes the construction of a viaduct and ten stations between Palarivattom Junction and Infopark, excluding certain elements like architectural finishes and entry/exit structures, which will be addressed in subsequent packages.

KMRL had initially called for bids in September 2023 without disclosing the estimated cost, setting a completion deadline of 600 days. Though not officially confirmed, it’s understood that Afcons placed a bid of Rs. 2137.01 crore. The final approval of the contract is pending, awaiting confirmation of a USD 122.3 million loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which had conducted its final appraisal review on February 29, 2024, following a concept review on November 7, 2023.

The stations planned along the Pink Line include a new station box at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium adjacent to the Blue Line, and stops at Palarivattom Junction, Alinchuvadu, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Padamughal, Kakkanad Junction, Cochin SEZ, Chittethukara, KINFRA Park, and Infopark/Smart City, which will link to the Kochi Water Metro. The timeline and detailed financial implications of Afcons’ bid relative to KMRL’s estimates remain uncertain, pending formal contract approval and loan acquisition from AIIB.

Cengrs Commences Geotechnical Work for Gurugram Metro HUDA – Cyber City Line

First borehole for Geotechnical Investigation in Gurugram opposite Millennium City Centre Metro Station.

GURUGRAM (Metro Rail News): Gurugram Metro’s ambitious project to establish a new 28.50 km ring line connecting HUDA (Millennium) City Centre with DLF Cybercity took a significant step forward as Cengrs Goetechnica initiated geotechnical soil investigation work on Wednesday.

Approved by the Indian Government’s Union Cabinet in June 2023, this entirely elevated line boasts 27 stations across both new and old Gurugram. The project falls under the jurisdiction of the newly formed Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd. (GMRL).

Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC) entrusted Cengrs with the crucial task of conducting geotechnical investigations for the line’s first phase. Awarded in February 2024, the Rs. 53.90 lakh contract involves drilling 130 boreholes, collecting samples, and analyzing soil profiles along the 12.76 km stretch from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9.

Gurugram Metro HUDA – Cyber City Line

The insights gleaned from Cengrs’ investigation will be pivotal in shaping the civil construction tender documents, enabling infrastructure companies to make well-informed financial bids and employ suitable machinery, methods, and technology during construction.

The mainline spanning 26.65 km will seamlessly connect Millennium City Centre and Cybercity through 26 stations. Additionally, a 1.85 km spur will link Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway, facilitating access to the depot.

However, progress on the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract for the project faced a setback as HMRTC received only one bid from SYSTRA MVA Consulting India earlier this week. The fate of the bid remains uncertain, casting doubts on the possibility of commencing civil construction in 2024 due to the extensive time required for detailed designs and the subsequent bidding process.

BHOPAL (Metro Rail News): Asis Elektronik ve Bilişim Sistemleri A.Ş, based in Turkey, emerged as the lowest bidder today for the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) contract (Package BHIN-07-01) for the Phase 1 projects of Bhopal Metro and Indore Metro.

Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MPMRCL) awarded this contract under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The selected contractor will handle the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the end-to-end Open Loop EMV (RuPay/Master/Visa) NCMC card-based AFC system and QR code-based ticketing. Each device will be linked to a central back-office AFC system.

Tenders for this contract were invited by MPMRCL in March 2022, with a deadline of 4 years and an estimated value of Rs. 230 crore. The technical bids, opened in February, revealed 3 bidders. Shellinfo, a recent winner of two AFC contracts for Chennai Metro Phase 2, was disqualified during the evaluation process.

Financial Bid Values:

  • Asis Elektronik ve Bilişim Sistemleri A.Ş: Rs. 186.52 crore
  • NEC Corporation India Pvt. Ltd.: Rs. 204.57 crore

The contract scope includes designing, manufacturing, supplying, installing, testing, commissioning, and maintaining an open-loop EMV NCMC card and QR code-based Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) System for the Bhopal and Indore Metro Rail Projects.

Asis Elektronik’s bid of Rs. 186.52 crores was significantly below MPMRCL’s estimate, indicating a likely contract award in the coming weeks without a lengthy financial bid evaluation period.

In the past, Asis Elektronik has secured contracts for Phase 1 of Pune Metro in partnership with HDFC Bank, Kochi Metro Phase 1 in 2017 in collaboration with Axis Bank, and Line-3 of Mumbai Metro in January 2019 in conjunction with Kalindee Rail Nirman.

In October 2022, State Bank of India (SBI) was the sole bidder for the financial banking contract for both Indore and Bhopal Metros’ AFC systems. The current status of this contract award is unknown. If you have any information regarding the status of this contract, please leave a comment below.
