PATNA (Metro Rail News): The first 70-ton Precast Pier Cap for the elevated Corridor-I segment close to the Mithapur metro station was successfully launched. BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): On Friday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Air Force and K-RIDE representatives, for transferring the latter’s land at Jalahalli for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project.The land is necessary for the project’s corridor-2 (Mallige line), which runs from Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavarasary. The corridor-2 project has “transited from the drawing board to the execution phase.“For the first phase of the suburban rail project, defence land at several locations, including Banaswadi Garrison, Airforce Jalahalli, and CQAE Yeshwantpur, was identified.According to the announcement, “The construction involving land acquisition, boundary wall construction, and various other preliminary works, such as survey works, Geo-Technical Investigation, and Ground Penetration Report (GPR) have been completed,”.“Batching plants are being built at three places, including Jalahalli, Hebbal, and Benniganahalli; Jalahalli’s batching plant is scheduled to begin operational soon.The Environment and Social Impact Assessment research has been completed; testing efforts are underway and will be conducted over the upcoming week at two test pile locations close to Hebbal and Yeshwantpur.The project has transferred 157 acres of railway land from the SWR. According to the press release, K-RIDE has also finished buying 5.11 acres of private land. Additionally, 2.72 acres of land owned by BWSSB and other governmental organisations were transferred. The 5.01 acres of land specified by K-RIDE is yet to be transferred by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).In addition, K-RIDE has conducted mutually beneficial inspections with various government agencies to check for moving utilities that could interfere with the project. The announcement also mentioned the upcoming release of bids for building 12 stations along Corridor 2.

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited(CMRL) reduced the phase II project’s length and station count.According to officials, the number of stations has decreased from 128 to 118, and the project’s length has been cut from 118.9 kilometres to 116 km. On Wednesday, the Madras High Court instructed CMRL to post the updated route alignment map on its website. This order has led to CMRL uploading the map.The three corridors of the Phase II project, anticipated to cost 61,843 crores, have recently undergone revisions. From Madhavaram to SIPCOT, Corridor 3 will now be 45.4 km long instead of its previous 45.8 km. Corridor 5, which was once 47 km long and ran from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur, has now been shortened to 44.6 km. However, Corridor 4 is still 26.1 km long between Poonamallee and the Light House.According to an official, Corridor 3 from Madhavaram to SIPCOT will have 47 stations (from Light House to Poonamallee), while Corridor 4 and 5 from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur will have 27 and 44 stations, respectively. Many stations, including Medavakkam, St. Joseph College, and Doveton Junction, were abandoned because they were too close to one another and did not require the necessary investment.

CHANDIGARH (Metro Rail News): The Tricity Metro is about to be constructed in the capital cities of Punjab and Haryana. The Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), recommended by the governments of Haryana and Punjab, has led the Chandigarh administration to organise a conference to discuss the proposed modifications.As a result, the metro project in Tricity has been permitted to proceed almost 14 years after it was first proposed. Furthermore, the metro construction projects would start in three cities in stages. In the first phase, a 14.5-kilometre metro line will be built in Chandigarh.Phase 1 would feature 25.5 km and 3.5 km long tracks in Mohali and Panchkula, respectively. Panchkula will get a 4.5 km expansion in the following phase, and Chandigarh will get a 5.5 km expansion.The Chandigarh Metro project was first proposed in 2009, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation subsequently issued a DPR for Rs 1.5 crore.Final adjustments to the DPR were made in 2012. Meanwhile, it wasn’t until 2015 that DMRC submitted a revised estimate of Rs 13,600 crore as the overall development cost. The Union Home Ministry terminated the project in 2017 due to financial infeasibility, which proved deadly.It was also suggested to include PGIMER, Secretariat, Vidhan Sabha, Pinjore, Kalka, Punjab and Haryana High Court as additional stations along the route.In addition, the metro will further pass by significant locations such as the Airport, Fountain Chowk, ISBT Panchkula, Chandigarh Railway Station, Tribune Chowk, JLPL Industrial Area, Grain Market Chowk, and others.Reduced traffic on the highways will also result from implementing the Tricity subway. According to statistics from the UT traffic police, more automobiles are registered in the city than people living there by more than 8%.

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) has recently announced that RVNL ( Rail Vikas Nigam Limited) has received the Letter of acceptance (LOA) for the line 2B project of Mumbai Metro. The project consists of “Design, Manufacture, Installation, Supply, Testing and Commissioning of 2 nos. 110KV Receiving Substation including 110 KV, 25KV & 33KV cabling work, full 25KV Overhead Catenary System with Switching Station, 33Kv auxiliary power distribution system together with 33/0.415 KV auxiliary sub-station, and complete SCADA system for mainline & depot of Mumbai Metro line 2B of MMRDA.”As per the announcement, RVNL has partnered with M/s SIEMENS India Limited to form a consortium, where RVNL owns 40% of the stake and M/s SIEMENS is the lead partner with a 60% share. The project’s estimated cost is approximately EUR 8,838,976 (excluding GST and customs fees) and Rs 300,11,81,354.The Mumbai Metro Line 2B project is a crucial stage in the advancement of Mumbai’s transportation infrastructure. The project’s timely execution and enhanced commuting experience for the city’s inhabitants are expected to result from RVNL’s expertise in railway building and upkeep and state-of-the-art technological solutions of M/s SIEMENS.

GHAZIABAD (Metro Rail News ): NCRTC has achieved one more milestone with another tunnel breakthrough of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RAPIDX corridor at Ghaziabad on Wednesday, 10th May 2023. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Sudarshan 4.3 made the breakthrough from the retrieval shaft constructed opposite the Vaishali Metro Station, Ghaziabad. Earlier, Sudarshan 4.1 made the first tunnel breakthrough in the Delhi section in April, this year.

Sudarshan 4.3 was launched for the tunnelling of around a 2-km long tunnel from Anand Vihar RAPIDX Station towards Sahibabad. After being lowered at the launching shaft constructed north of Anand Vihar RAPIDX Station, it completed the tunnelling work in less than 11 months. RAPIDX tunnels have a diameter of 6.5 metres which is highly optimised as compared to global benchmarks of tunnels for a similar design speed of 180 Kmph with wider and higher rolling stock. Compared to the other rail-based urban mass transit systems in the country, this is for the first time that a tunnel is being constructed of such a large size.Tunnelling in this section was a challenging task as going towards Sahibabad; this tunnel passes underneath a flyover, a drain and industrial establishments. NCRTC, through strategic planning and innovative methods, overcame these challenges successfully and made it possible with the minimum public inconvenience.A total of 4 tunnels are being constructed in Delhi & Ghaziabad section for the 82-kilometre Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut RAPIDX corridor for to and fro movement in both directions. Two parallel tunnels of about 3 kilometres each in length from Anand Vihar towards New Ashok Nagar RAPIDX Station and about 2-kilometre-long twin tunnels from Anand Vihar towards Sahibabad RAPIDX Station.4 Sudarshans (TBMs) were deployed for the construction of the underground section in Delhi and Ghaziabad to bore 4 tunnels out of which now, 2 have been completed. Out of the total length of the other two tunnels, only about 800 meters are left to be bored, for which two Sudarshan are working day and night, and they will be completed soon. To construct this particular 2-kilometre-long tunnel, more than 9500 high-precision precast tunnel segments have been used, which will ensure a long tunnel life. In the tunnelling process, seven segments make one ring of the tunnel. Each of these tunnel segments is 1.5 m long. These segments and rings are joined with the help of bolts. The tunnel segments of this section are being cast at NCRTC’s Casting Yard, established at Karkardooma, Delhi.NCRTC is targeting to commission the entire 82-km long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut for the public by 2025. Before that, it will operationalise a 17-km long Priority Section between Sahibabad and Duhai shortly, ahead of the scheduled time.

GHAZIABAD (Metro Rail News): On Monday, the Uttar Pradesh government rejected the Ghaziabad development authority’s 50% state funding request. Also, the government informed them through an online meeting that the maximum state financial share for other Metro projects in Uttar Pradesh is 27%.The Noida Sector 62 to Sahibabad and Vaishali to Mohan Nagar routes are two proposed metro extensions in Ghaziabad.According to the budget anticipated in detailed project reports (DPRs) offered to GDA by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in January 2020, GDA wants Rs. 1,517 crores for the Noida Sector 62 to Sahibabad line and Rs. 1,808.22 crores for the Vaishali to Mohan Nagar route.According to Brijesh Kumar, secretary of the GDA, they have requested that the state set forth guidelines and a funding scheme so that the two extensions may proceed.He further stated that the total cost of ₹3,325.22 crore for two projects was based on a 2020 price index and that cost escalation is anticipated at current prices. “We expect costs to rise by 10% based on the current price index. We will therefore update the DPR rates as soon as state officials send us the funding schedule and anticipated state government contribution.Earlier in January, the state administration rejected GDA funds. However, in response to orders made by the deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya during his visit to Ghaziabad on April 5, the two  were again forwarded to state officials.

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): J Kumar Infraprojects has emerged as the lowest bidder for the pre-engineered building (PEB) roof and architectural finishing contract at five stations on the 23.6 km long Line-2B (Yellow Line) of Mumbai Metro connecting DN Nagar-BKC-Mandale.The five elevated stations are located at Diamond Nagar, Shivaji-Chowk, BSNL, Mankhurd, and Mandale.The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) invited proposals for Package CA-158, with an estimated cost of Rs 100.30 crore, in the beginning of January 2023. When the technical proposals were issued in February, J Kumar Infraprojects submitted the lowest bid of Rs 99.29 crore.The scope of work includes fabrication, erection of PEB structural steel works, and plumbing work for five elevated stations along the metro line 2B route from Diamond Garden to Mandale in the Mumbai Metro rail project of MMRDA.By 2025, the first five stations of Line-2B are anticipated to be operational.Station civil construction and PEB roof work are divided into two packages by MMRDA. In April 2019, NCC received the civil construction contract (Package CA-07), and the first set of U-girders was put into service in January 2020.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): On May 8 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Ministries of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Railways (MoR) along with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the Station Area Development Along Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (Project-SMART).Project-SMART aims to develop the surroundings around Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Railway (MAHSR) Stations to improve commuters’ access and convenience and those of other stakeholders and foster economic activity in the primary area.The initiative would make it easier and better for municipal corporations, urban development authorities, and state governments to plan, develop, and manage the areas around MAHSR stations.Out of the 12 stations along the route, the MoU was signed for four high-speed rail stations: Sabarmati, Surat in Gujarat, Virar, and Thane in Maharashtra. Sabarmati is a brownfield development, whereas Surat, Virar, and Thane are green fields.In addition, the MoHUA, the governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra, and JICA are organising several seminars and site visits for Project-SMART in Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai.The first seminar in the series was held at Nirman Bhawan in New Delhi on 8 May 2023. Participants include officials from the Japan Embassy, JICA Headquarters, the JICA India Office, the JICA experts’ team, the Ministry of Railways, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited, MoHUA, and TCPO.The seminars’ discussions will facilitate with development of “Station Area Development Plans” for the HSR Stations at Sabarmati, Surat, Virar, and Thane, as well as a model handbook that includes lessons learned and approaches used in Japan, India, and other nations for Transit Oriented Development (TOD) and Station Area Development.

This is a significant development because it will link the Mumbai Metro Rail network and Line 1 in Navi Mumbai.Metro Neo is an electric trolley bus with rubber-tyre bi-articulated and an overhead traction system.According to the officials, “CIDCO has approved the construction of Navi Mumbai Metro Lines 2, 3, and 4 with a modified mode of transport, namely MetroNeo, in place of standard gauge Metro”.Metro Neo is an innovative transport system intended for cities with a population of up to 20 lakhs, according to CIDCO authorities. It is a seamless, quick, trustworthy, and economical mass rapid transportation system (MRTS). It will offer a travelling experience comparable to Metro systems on a global scale. Coaches on Metro Neo trains are lighter and smaller than regular Metro trains.In addition, it is cutting-edge, reliable, energy-efficient, minimally noisy, and environmentally friendly technology.As per the officials, the buses will have air conditioning, an automatic door-closing system, level boarding, plush seats, passenger announcements, and an information system with an electronic display.The Commission of Railway Safety (CMRS) has permitted Navi Mumbai’s Line 1 Metro Rail to begin commercial operation. The 11.1 km elevated corridor  between Belapur and Pendhar features stations Belapur, Sector-7 Belapur, Science Park, Utsav Chowk, Sector 11 Kharghar, Sector 14 Kharghar, Central Park, Pethapada, Sector 34 Kharghar, Panchnand, and Pendhar Terminal.Additionally, Line 1 will have a vehicle maintenance depot at Taloja, two traction substations at Panchanand and Kharghar, and more.

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) intends to install tracks on the Poonamallee-Porur route in two months.The segment is part of Chennai Metro Rail’s phase II construction project of corridor 4 (from Light House to Poonamallee). The 118.9-km Chennai Metro Rail’s phase II project is being implemented at a cost of 61,843 crores.According to CMRL officials, CMRL is encouraging the contractors to speed up the work because they plan to start train services from Poonamallee to Porur by the end of 2025. “The track laying will begin in July, and we hope to finish it within a year.” The contractor should be able to lay roughly 80 metres of track daily.According to an official, the preliminary work and materials will be delivered to site by the end of June. Although the viaduct building has been moving smoothly, reports say that the construction of two stations along this stretch may be delayed due to some difficulties.The official further added, “The contractor had identified a few issues and challenges in completing two stations on time, but we have held discussions and resolved it now.” “By the end of 2025, we should be able to open all stations”.CMRL intended to operate rail services from Poonamallee to Power House, but building work between Porur and Power House has been delayed for at least six months.

MUMBAI ( Metro Rail News): Mumbai’s first underground metro line will seek safety approval to begin driverless operations after completing Phase 1 (Bandra Kurla Complex to Aarey) in December.The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation’s managing director, Ashwini Bhide, stated, “Service trials will also be conducted with drivers on board and submitted for CMRS (Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety) approval.”Trials of at least six months would require of the CMRS authorisation to conduct driverless operations. They would be completed concurrently following the commissioning. We will convert to driverless mode once the CMRS approval is received.”The CMRS is the final approval authority for the commercial operation of any metro line in the country.The metro will run with nine rakes of eight coaches each in Phase 1. The underground Metro 3 runs for 33 km from Colaba to Aarey. The corporation will commence activities on this corridor in two stages: from the Bandra Kurla Complex to Aarey and from the Bandra Kurla Complex to Colaba.In addition, the trains on the recently opened elevated lines, Metro Lines 2A and 7, also contain autonomous technology.Still, they are operated by drivers since commuters need to become more familiar with the concept, according to officials. As a result, Metro 3 may be the first to commence driverless operations.
