CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Southern Railway has invited bids for the construction of 5th and 6th railway Broad Gough Lines between Villivakkam and Ambattur in Chennai. The project cost around Rs 129 crore. It will increase line capacity on one of the busiest suburban rail sections in the city and support future growth in passenger and freight traffic.

Scope of Work
The contractor will construct the 5th and 6th Railway BG line between Villivakkam and Ambattur Stations for Civil Engineering, Signalling & Telecommunication, Electrical General & OHE Electrification works including utility shifting on EPC MODE.
About the Project
The Villivakkam-Ambattur section forms part of Chennai’s busy suburban railway network. It carries a large number of passenger and freight trains every day. The existing tracks handle heavy traffic, which often limits operational flexibility. The construction of the 5th and 6th railway lines will increase corridor capacity, improve train movement, and support future growth in rail services.
