0

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government has decided to speed-up the Hyderabad Metro Rail project works and the services will become operational from January 3rd 2018 onwards.

The project will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The first phase metro will be between Nagole and Begumpet with Miyapur – SR Nagar and Nagole – Mettuguda routes likely to be operational.

Both the routes have been ready for more than a year ago and 58 metro rails are already brought to Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail project should have been completed by July 4, 2017 but due to the constant delays from the Telangana Government over handing the necessary land and the route alignment issues, the project deadline has been pushed.

Kolkata Metro | Railway to open New Garia Airport Metro corridor in June 2018

0

Kolkata: The New Garia Airport Metro corridor, which has come a long way by crossing multiple hurdles, is poised to start operations on the 5km stretch — between Kavi Subhas and Ruby Hospital — by June 2018. With Metro general manager Vishwesh Chaubey closely monitoring the progress of the project, the latest problem, where 11 shopowners have encroached upon vested land near Baghajatin rail bridge, is likely to resolved within a week.

“The project has been progressing quite well. Majority of the hurdles have been crossed. In case of any new hurdle, general manager Vishwesh Chaubey will personally take steps to solve them,” said Metro Railway chief public relations officer Indrani Banerjee.

A Metro assessment shows the project, which is being carried out executing agency Rail Vikash Nigam Limited (RVNL), is progressing on war-footing. The alignment, which will be moving through the city’s newest healthcare district, is expected to take away the load off the road and provi de faster means of transportation to and from the airport.

The project has, however, suffered many stumbling blocks in the past. Its terminal station at New Garia was uncertain after local squatters chased away pro ject engineers and staged an agitation. Finally, the state government intervened and mayor Sovon Chatterjee made it clear to the squatters that they have to move out.The move cleared a very crucial hurdle, blocking the completion of the stretch.

Lucknow Metro | LMRC achieves Breakthrough of TBM Gomti

0

Lucknow: The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) today successfully achieved the breakthrough of TBM-Gomti near Sahu Cinema in Hazratganj in 6 1/2 months due to the hardwork and commitment of Lucknow Metro Project team. With this ‘breakthrough’, Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation has achieved one of the biggest milestones in form of completion of first TBM drive in the construction of underground Metro in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The state of the art onboard computerized tunnel guidance system have been provided in TBMs to ensure that the tunnelling is done as per the designed alignment to the highest level of accuracy. Extensive instrumentation has been done throughout the underground stretch and continuous online and real time monitoring is done by a team of dedicated experts to ensure safety during TBM operation.

The underground stretch of 3.67 km length of Lucknow Metro Project starts immediately after Charbagh and covers 3 underground stations at Hussainganj, Sachivalaya and Hazratganj . Work of tunneling in this section was started from the Sachivalaya underground Metro Station using two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) named –‘Gomti’ and‘Ganga’ for Up and Down lines respectively.

Tunneling work for the UP line started on 23.01.2017 with TBM-Gomti, towards Hazratganj underground Metro station. The tunneling in this stretch posed an enormous technical challenge as the route passes beneath highly congested areas and basements of commercial establishmentsto lay the tracks at the depth of 12-15m below ground
level.LMRC has accomplished the difficult mission of not affecting the working of commercial establishments even for a day while tunneling beneath them.

TBM-Gomti having a length of 75m, has taken about 6 1/2 months to complete tunneling of 812m length from Sachivalaya to Hazratganj metro station, where it will be taken out and shifted to other end of Sachivalaya station for starting tunneling towards Hussainganj metro station. Preparatory arrangements are being made in the meantime for the breakthrough after completion of tunnel drive.

Second TBM-Ganga which is working in parallel on Down Line between Sachivalaya and Hazratganj has completed 782 m tunneling and its breakthrough is also expected shortly.

Mumbai Metro | Indian Railway asks MMRC to integrate metro with suburban rly

0

Mumbai: Even though Rs 40000 crore is being spent on the three Metro rails Colaba-Bandra-Sepz (Metro 3), Andheri (E)-Dahisar (E) (Metro 7) and Dahisar-DN Nagar (Metro 2A) there is no plan to connect with the Mumbai suburban rail that ferries 74 lakh people everyday. However on August 2, at a meet between the railways and Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), the latter were asked to plan their stations accordingly.

The Western Railway (WR) authorities have identified stations like Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra, Andheri and Borivali where the connectivity between the two modes of transport is needed. Sources in WR said that these are the stations where it is required for the integration either through subways or foot over bridges (FOBs).

“We have asked the MMRC to work on their stations in a way that it can connect with our railway stations,” said Mukul Jain, Divisional Railway Manager (Mumbai), WR.

At these stations, work on Metro rail is underway which is barely meters away from the station premises. The railway authorities claim that as work on Metro is still underway, they can surely realign the path and integrate the two rail systems. For instance at Mumbai Central, work on Colaba-Bandra-Seepz is underway which are inside ral premises.

At Andheri and Bandra, work is underway on the main arterial roads that leads to the railway stations. Here there is a scope for connecting to the nearest skywalk that is used by people daily. “There is a need for the two modes of transport to get connected, otherwise there is no point if people have to come on road for interchange,” said AV Shenoy, Transport expert.

At present the connectivity at Andheri and Ghatkopar stations is satisfactory. In fact few months ago the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation built a new FOB joining the rail and metro stations that is barely 50 meters in length. Previously the distance between the two were around 500 meters or so and it was connected by a skywalk. At Ghatkopar, the two merge providing ease to commuters.

“We will look into this suggestion made by the railways to connect the Metro stations with railway stations,” said Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, MMRCL.

In fact the railway officials claim that they are also planning revamp of few stations under the Station Redevelopment scheme. Under the scheme, 400 stations belonging to A1 and A category are going to be redeveloped through PPP. The first phase of the scheme have been launched with 23 stations which include five stations from Mumbai suburban, namely Kurla Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Thane, Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus and Borivali.

Delhi Metro | DMRC to add 101 trains in two new routes of phase-III project

0

New Delhi: In an attempt to tackle passenger rush, a major expansion is on the cards for Delhi Metro with plans to increase the number of trains from 227 at present to 328 by March 2018. The network will also expand from 218km to 348km, with its Phase 3 project almost finished now.

Two upcoming corridors – Magenta Line (Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden) and Pink Line (Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar) – will be commissioned in parts by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) from this October. The two lines will also be fully operational by March next year.

Not only will the number of trains jump by 45%, 690 new coaches will also be added to the current 1,468. Out of these, 504 will be used for the Magenta and Pink Lines, and the 6-coach trains will be converted into 8-coach ones to accommodate more people.

Since the Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida City Centre/Vaishali) is the network’s busiest, it will get the most number of trains, apart from having nine 8-coach trains added to the 56 current ones. The Yellow Line (Samaypur Badli to HUDA City Centre), which is the second busiest network, will get fourteen 8-coach trains added to the 38 current ones.

The newly opened Violet Line (Kashmere Gate to Escorts Mujesar) along with the Pink and Magenta Lines will only have 6-coach trains as the footfall is comparatively less on these corridors. The Red Line (Dilshad Garden-Rithala) will get its 4-coach trains converted into 6-coach ones, and will have a total of 39 trains soon.

More trains mean more manpower, which is why the DMRC will also add 3,000 more staffers to the current 9,000 ones. These will include customer care executives, train operators, and station controllers.

Mumbai: Alleging that the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has commenced work for construction of Metro car depot inside Aarey Colony starting Friday, environmentalists have written to the suburban collector alleging that MMRC has no permission to carry out work and the matter being sub judice in National Green Tribunal (NGT) there is a status quo order for Aarey Colony.

However, the MMRC claimed that it is conducting activity in conformity with an appropriate legal framework

Biju Augustine, of the Aarey Conservation Group, said, “The MMRC is illegally commencing the work and we have brought it to the notice of the suburban collector and the Aarey police station that has asked MMRC to stop the work. How can the MMRC commence work if orders have been passed by the NGT to maintain status quo.

MMRC spokesperson, in a statement issued on Monday, said, “MMRC conducts its activities in conformity with an appropriate legal framework.

The decisions were taken based on the report submitted by a public transport expert, Edward Datson, belonging to Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau (KfW), a German financial institution, on the feasibility of light metro for Vijayawada city. Datson studied the demography of Vijayawada city and its peripheral areas, among various other aspects, for 15days. He met the chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday and submitted his report. KfW had come forward to fund Vijayawada metro.

With the new changes in the corridors the Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) will prepare new DPRs and later call tenders. Datson said that a similar metro is in operation in Gurugram in the National Capital Region (NCR) and the report that was submitted to Naidu on Wednesday also included the details of the interactions that he had with Gurgaon light metro operators.

“Based on Datson’s report and the report submitted by the state government’s high level committee that visited China and Malaysia last month to study alternative public transport systems, the chief minister has taken the crucial decision to establish light metro, which will reduce both the capital cost and the annual operational maintenance cost,” AMRC managing director N P Ramakrishna Reddy told Media.

Reddy further said that with the light metro the state government can save at least 25% on capital costs and 20% on annual maintenance costs against the heavy metro. Also, 50% less land has to be acquired for the light metro.

Lucknow Metro The First Oscillation Trial Under The Supervision Of RDSO Started

Lucknow: During the Commissioner Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) inspection of Lucknow Metro trains and its different systems on 27th, 28th, 31st July, 2017 and on 1st August, 2017, a number of tests and trials were done in the presence of CMRS and were demonstrated successfully.

For sanction of the “Priority Corridor” at a maximum permissible speed of 80 km/hr, the CMRS has desired to witness few tests particularly the load deflection test on special spans for his inspection.

Also, the signalling system for the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) has already been implemented by LMRC which marginally restricts the maximum achievable speed during train operation on account of safety against the maximum permissible speed of 80km/hr.

The CMRS has further desired LMRC to arrange to demonstrate running of trains at the maximum permissible speed of 80km/hr for which the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) shall need to be bypassed for testing. LMRC is planning to demonstrate these tests to him in the coming days. This process is expected to take around ten days.

Earlier, the Research Designs & Standards Organization (RDSO) had certified Lucknow Metro Trains for safe running up to 80 km/ph based on the successful completion of the Oscillation Trials. Based on the RDSO’s test, the Ministry of Railways, Government of India has already approved Lucknow Metro trains for safe running up to 80 km/hr.

New Delhi: Days before full-fledged trials begin on the upcoming Pink Line, a Delhi Metro train crossed the highest point on the network — at Dhaula Kuan at 23.6 metres, the transporter said on Wednesday.

“The Metro train crossed Dhaula Kuan at a height of 23.6 metres (as high as a seven storey building) to reach South Campus from Mayapuri, covering a distance of 6.8 km. The full-fledged trials on this section will commence in a few days,” the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said.

“During this journey, various functional aspects of the new rolling stock (trains) were tested prior to the beginning of signalling trials,” it added.

The trial run between Shakurpur and Mayapuri had been going on for a month.

The Pink Line (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar) will cover a major part of the Ring Road with 10 interchange stations, including the Airport Express Line.

“The construction of this section was a major engineering challenge since the viaduct had to pass above the airport line viaduct as well as flyovers at the Dhaula Kuan intersection,” the DMRC said.
