New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today started test runs on the 8.10 kms stretch between the Lajpat Nagar and Sir Vishweshwaraiah Moti Bagh section of the upcoming 59 km long Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar corridor (Line 7) of Phase-III, also known as the Pink Line. The Test Runs were flagged off by Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC in the presence of other senior officials.

This stretch, which will be a continuation of the presently operational Majlis Park – Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus section, will be a major boon for the shoppers of the city as four major markets of the national capital, i.e, Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar will get dedicated Metro stations.

Pink Line Map

During these test runs, the interface of the Metro train will be checked to ensure that there is no physical infringement with civil infrastructure during the movement of the train on the track and also testing of various subsystems of coaches shall be done.

The new signaling technology known as Communication Based Train Control (CBTC), which is being used on the Pink and Magenta Lines, will also undergo rigorous testing in stages. The response of the train at different speeds, braking of the train and the interconnection with the Operations Control Centre (OCC) will also be monitored during the trials. The behavior of the track system and the Over Head Electrification (OHE) will be checked repeatedly.

This section from Lajpat Nagar to Sir Vishweshwaraiah Moti Bagh consists of 6 stations i.e. Sir Vishweshwaraih Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place, Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar. Out of these 6 stations, Only Sir Vishweshwaraiah Moti Bagh station is elevated and rest 5 stations are underground.

Interchange Facility on this Section

This section has two interchange stations at INA and Lajpat Nagar. The facility of interchange of Metro trains between line7 & line 2 is available at INA and between line-7 & line 6 at Lajpat Nagar Station.

Challenges and special features of this section Lajpat Nagar Station

The Lajpat Nagar Metro station will emerge as one of the most important interchange hubs of south Delhi. Here, commuters of the Pink Line and the presently operational Violet Line from will be able to change trains. The construction of this interchange in a congested locality along the Lajpat Nagar market was a major challenge for DMRC’s engineers.

The alignment of tunnel between the South Extension station & Lajpat Nagar station is below the existing elevated Lajpat Nagar station and it crosses between piers of elevated station of the Violet Line. The drive of Tunnel Boring Machine between existing RCC piers was very critical and needed meticulous planning and monitoring.

Being in the vicinity of one of the busiest markets of Delhi (known as Central market) and surrounded by the residential buildings in the close vicinity, creating space for construction and traffic decongestion was major challenge.

The construction of an underground Nallah (6.7m x 3.3m) crossing the cut & cover area was one of the challenges as it was first dismantled and then reconstructed on piles to facilitate the construction of tunnel box underneath.

INA

INA is a very important location in terms of connectivity to the nearby areas of Delhi. It is a mix of residential and shopping areas like Sarojini Nagar, Laxmibai Nagar, Dilli Haat etc. The INA station of the Pink Line is an interchange station with the Yellow Line station. The new station is at 90 degrees to the existing station and this is for the first time in the history of the Metro construction that a station is built over the existing tunnel connecting the operational INA and the AIIMS Metro stations. This is also probably the first time in India that a ‘Cut & Cover’ construction was done over the existing operational tunnel.

Delhi Metro's INA Metro Station
Entrance of INA Metro Station of Delhi Metro

INA Metro station of Line-7 (Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar) is an interchange station providing seamless connectivity between the existing INA station and the new station.

From the underground station perspective also, this Metro station is unique as the platform has been constructed above the concourse level for the first time in Metro construction. This implies that the platform is at the first level of this underground station (called basement level 1) while the concourse level has been shifted below the platform at the base level.

For example, If one passenger wants to interchange from the new INA station to the old INA station, then, he has to go down from the platform of the new station to the concourse level and from the concourse he will be connected to the concourse of the old INA station through the common interchange area.

This was done here because of the height variation between the existing INA station and the upcoming new INA station owing to the already existing Metro tunnel at the location. DMRC had to modify the station design to adjust to the new circumstances.

This is, probably, for the first time in India that a cut and cover construction has been done over the existing operational tunnel. So, there is one point where trains of both the lines and the concourses would simultaneously operate on top of each other.

For interchanging (i.e. going to the already existing INA station), the commuters will have to go to the concourse/base level of the new station and then go to the existing INA station.

In past the employees union of BMRC had highlighted their corrupt activities at large scale and demanded appropriate action from the Management.

According to sources, Additional General Manager (Human Resource) Hariswamy, has been sent back to the Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Limited while Deputy General Manager (Human Resource) I V Anuradha has been sent to the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Limited. It was further found that both have not authorized to work on their so called designations because  they have promoted themselves to work on higher positions by forging and tampering documents.

The incident of forging documents was noticed a few days after December 10, 2017, the date the previous Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola left the BMRC.

According to a top BMRC officials, “The previous MD had okayed the promotion of Deputy General Manager Harisamy as Senior General Manager and Anuradha from Manager to Senior Manager. Using a whitener, Harisamy had rewritten his designation as Additional General Manager, one step higher in the managerial hierarchy. In a similar fashion, he tampered with the promotion letter of Anuradha and promoted her as Deputy General Manager.”

With condition to hiding name, a BMRC employee said, “The duo had literally terrorised the nearly 1,500 Metro employees by issuing memos and chargesheets for minor incidents and stalling genuine demands. In fact, a key demand for most of the employees in the ongoing tussle between the management and employees over a strike call was the removal of them.”

A top source familiar with all internal matters said the two employees were mainly responsible for the Union’s call to strike work last month. “After the halt in train operations for half a day following a snap stir on June 7, 2017 the Operations Manager at Baiyappanahalli B L Yashwanth Chavan held regular weekly grievance meetings and compiled their demands in a big dossier. Hikes in salaries and promotions for the Operations and Maintenance team figured in them. Harisamy was totally against implementing them. He constantly evaded when asked about the file and finally said the dossier had been misplaced and got lost,”

After repeated complaints against them, the top management held discussions with them. “They confessed to their actions in a meeting held last week,” another official said.

“We have repatriated both to their parent departments. Anuradha was given her letter on April 17 and Harisamy on April 20. We had also received complaints that they were creating a lot of friction inside the office,” BMRCL Managing Director Mahendra Jain merely said.

On the possibility of lodging a police complaint, he said, “A departmental inquiry against both of them will follow.”

Similarly, a lots of irregularity found in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in recruitment department. A personal assistant elevated herself to Dy. General Manager post and the ex-General Manager (HR) recruited her wife on post of Librarian (contractual) and elevated her to Hindi Officer as a regular executive post. An Addl. General Manager (HR) extended his tenure after getting retirement. Current General Manager (HR) has been brought from back door without any recruitment drive and elevated himself as Chief General Manager (HR) in his under probation tenure. The employee who highlighted the issue were thrown out from the organisation and fighting for justice in the various courts of law. The name of current MD is found in the list of irresponsible official in Delhi Metro Airport Line Express case and the matter is sub-judice in the High Court of Delhi for a long time.

A lots of compliant registered in Central Vigilance Commission against the illegality and irregularity in recruitment in various metro railways in India but no action taken.

Nagpur Metro | NMRC gets CMRS safety clearance, metro services will open in March 2019

2
Nagpur CMRS Inspection
Nagpur Metro CMRS Inspection of at grade level section

Nagpur: The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro) has announced on Wednesday that they have received first safety clearance from Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) after their two days inspection of 5 km section at-grade level from Khapri to South Airport. The Nagpur Metro is likely to start its first commercial run on a 14-km stretch between Khapri and Sitabuldi in March next year.

MahaMetro Managing Director Brijesh Dixit said that with the first certificate of safety having being issued, “at-grade (ground level)”, for a 5-km section from Khapri to South airport, “way has been paved for the first commercial ride in March 2019”.

“We are planning to start a pre-launch free ride for the under-privileged, like those who are differently-abled, senior citizens and the homeless, on demand at the at-grade section.  Three stations on the stretch have already been completed. The stations, Khapri, New Airport and Airport South, have already received platinum rating from the Indian Green Building Council,” Dixit said.

The Nagpur Metro, covering a total of around 40 km between the two corridors, North-South and East-West, would have 41 stations. Many of them are being developed based on themes, like tiger, forest, tribal and aqua, with the buildings’ facades depicting them. The Nagpur Metro will have many unique features, like two stretches of double-decker sections – 3.5 km Airport to Ajni, and 5.3 km LIC Square to Automotive Square.

Nagpur Metro Route Map
Nagpur Metro Rail Project Route Map

These would have the NH7 below and the metro track running above it. In the latter section, four decks would run, one above each other, at one point on Kamptee Road, where a railway bridge passes above the existing highway stretch. The metro proposes to draw 65 per cent of its power from a solar plant to be specially erected solely for the purpose. Two towers, at least 20 storeys each, are slated to come up in Sitabuldi area with metro offering it to private developers on BOT (build operate transfer)basis.

“Where the metro crosses the existing railway line, we are coming up with a unique architectural structure, called balanced cantilever bridge, which will be kind of a suspended bridge,” Dixit said. The Nagpur Metro hopes to become viable, mainly through non-fare box revenue generated through real estate development, as well as through sharing of revenue, which the state government would get on account of the double FSI granted to the entire corridor of 500m on either side of the metro. “We hope to generate 50 per cent of our revenue through non-fare box sources, which would be the highest anywhere,” Dixit said. The Rs 8,640 crore project has a December 19 deadline to complete both the corridors, subject to settlement of remaining land acquisition disputes and pending final designs of certain
structures.

RITES begins technical feasibility study for expansion of DMRC network to Gurugram Rly Stn

0
DMRC Yellow Line
Delhi Metro Train

Gurugram: The Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) has started a technical feasibility study for the expansion of the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line from Huda City Centre station to Gurugram railway station.

Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has authorised RITES to submit a report on the technical aspects of the 12.28km expansion project to meet a long-standing demand of connecting the public transportation system with the old city.

RITES officials have visited some of the congested places of the route like Laxman Vihar, sector 4-5, to know the exact ground situation. The purpose to start technical feasibility study of the area to identify any hurdles.

According to an official, RITES have been given six months time to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of this route and after preparation the same will be submitted to DMRC and HMRTC.

The 12.28km stretch will have total nine stations namely Huda City Centre, Sector 45, Sector 46, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Roshanpura, Sector 4-5 and Gurugram Railway Station. GMDA has estimated a cost of Rs 2,196 crore for the project.

After the formation of GMDA, it was given the responsibility to conduct a survey of three routes from Huda City Centre to connect old Gurugram.

The first route was to connect it with sector 21 Dwarka via old Gurugram, covering 27.48km.

The second route was to link Huda City Centre to Gurugram railway station and the third between IFFCO Chowk metro station and sector 21 Dwarka.

During the first meeting of GMDA on January 31, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar was more keen on the 12.28km route connecting old city with Gurugram railway station as the last station, and therefore this was finalised. After this, necessary formalities with DMRC were completed, said the source.

The official pointed out that GMDA has also taken public feedback last year, and a majority of residents have shown interest in the Huda City Centre to Dwarka sector 21 routes.

HMRTC has a plan to make a ring of metro in Gurugram city with the eventual goal to reach the last mile. It has not dropped the longer route idea. The option is open with HMRTC and it may consider in the second phase to connect this with sector 21 Dwarka through Subhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, sector 9, Ashok Vihar and Palam Vihar. The estimated cost of the longer route is Rs 4,591 crore, the official said.
