Kochi: A well know mall  Lulu in Edapally, Kochi is the first business establishment to connect with Kochi Metro Rail Ltd.(KMRL). A skywalk connecting mall with metro station opened for public on 14th June 2018, Thursday by managing director APM Mohammed Hanish. Kochi marked a new achievement before it’s first anniversary with a great tie-up.

The connectivity is expected to bring down vehicular traffic at busy Edapally Junction and make it easier for the public to commute from metro station to mall and back. Skywalk will operate from 9am to 10pm.

According to the KMRL policy, the entire cost of direct connectivity, including civil work, lighting, additional lifts, shifting of utilities, ticketing office, security cabins and other modifications is borne by the mall as they were keen on having a skywalk link with a metro station. The land licence for the shadow area of the skywalk within the KMRL property equal to 99% of the market value of the land, and a license fee per annum for 35 years have to be paid in advance.

There will also be a refundable security deposit of Rs. 10 lakh, which will be refunded on the termination of the agreement, after deducting the estimated deduction costs or damages if any, metro sources said. The skywalk’s architecture resembles the Kochi metro coaches and makes you fell like a metro world. The structure costs of the skywalk is Rs. 5 crore, said a release issued by mall.

The move to offer electric charging points at metro stations is tune with the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP). The aim of the plan is to accomplish national fuel security by promoting electric and hybrid in the country. Chennai Metro moving in the direction will soon be offering electric charging points at earmarked stations in first phase.

As per the officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) the EV charging points will be made available at St. Thomas Mount, Koyambedu, Alandur and Thirumangalam metro stations. Going a step further, CMRL is also in the process of procuring e-bikes and e-cards at each of these stations. As per initial plan, there will be 10 bikes and 5 e-cars at the stations.

With electric charging point, commuters will be able to charge their vehicles at one of the four stations. CMRL officials informed that they are mulling to offer last mile connectivity to commuters. The metro body will generate revenues by leasing out space to interested parties. They will also identify firms interested in supplying e-cars and e-bikes to commuters.

Currently Chennai Metro rail offers cycles at 12 stations. These include Ekkattuthangal, Nehru Park, Shenoy Nagar, Kilpauk and Pachaiyappa’s College. Motorbikes are available at the Thirumangalam and Chennai airport Metro Rail stations.

Commuters on the other hand have hailed the decision of CMRL on offering charging points. But they feel that there should be more number of mini buses and shared auto for several routes as it makes commuting easy.

Delhi Metro | Centre decides to takeover Phase IV project of DMRC

New Delhi: The cabinet ministers of central government finally decided to work ahead on Delhi Metro Phase IV project alone as the proposal has been pending with Delhi AAP government from last 2 years. Even after one-on-one meetings, there has been no response.

If the plan is successfully executed, it would be the first time in Delhi metro projects that the central government and Delhi government are equal shareholders. Hardeep Singh Puri, Union minister for housing and urban affairs quoted to media “Yes, we are moving ahead. He(Kejriwal) is leaving with no choice but to go alone. People of Delhi cannot be held to ransom”

“Yes, we are moving ahead. He(Kejriwal) is leaving with no choice but to go alone. People of Delhi cannot be held to ransom”, said Hardeep Singh Puri Union minister for housing and urban affairs while interacting with media.

Sources said the financial implication of the move are being worked out. “The Centre is aware that the move will be a violation of the 50-50 partnership model, but the intention to go ahead alone is mainly due to the sheer scale of the project. It will bring goodwill to the BJP,” sources said.

According to records, the file containing the proposal is estimated Rs 55,000 crore Phase IV project is under Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot. According to an official in the Delhi transport department, under GST (Goods and service tax), the state government will have to pay more money than the Central government.

The official further said that in the future, the entire operational losses of the corridors will have to be tolerated by the Delhi transport department.

If the metro project is taken up by central government(BJP) it can cost a lot to AAP government during the time of elections.
The Delhi finance department surveyed that the government can give it’s approval only to four of the six proposed corridors. The AAP cabinet has still not taken up the observation of the finance department which can cost them a lot after some time.

The report stated that however, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is not in agreement with the observations of the finance department as the 22-km long Tughlakabad Aerocity line is not included in it.

The projects which got approved by the finance department after the observation of finance availability are Janakpuri West to R K Ashram line of 28.92 km, Inderlok to Indraprastha line of 12.58 km, Mukundpur to Maujpur line of 12.54 km and Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block line of 7.96 km.

“However, Metro has said leaving out the Tughlakabad Aerocity corridor will not be possible as it plans to build maintenance depot and related infrastructure on the corridor. Its exclusion makes the entire project unviable,” a transport department official said.

The areas that will be covered by the proposed lines — Burari, Yamuna Vihar, Paschim Vihar, Rohini east, Mukarba Chowk and Andrews Ganj — house a large migrant population, the support of which played a major role in AAP’s rise to power.

Electric Vehicle Charging Points

New Delhi: On Tuesday the heavy industries minister Anant Geete said that the government is working on a collaboration model under which the Central PSU Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) with four other foreign firms to set metro coach development facility in the country. In which BHEL will have a 20% stake in the project while four foreign firm will have majority of stake. Like other countries in the world India has also embarked on electrifying its transport sector. The best example of this could been seen through recent achievement of Mumbai which has got 80 electric buses under FAME (Faster Adaptation and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India) scheme of Phase I, Nagpur has set up India’s first electric vehicle charging station.

Heavy Industries Minister Anant Geete emphasis on development of electric vehicle in India.
Heavy Industries Minister Anant Geete emphasis on development of electric vehicle in India.

So to obtain 100% electric mobility in India we need to focuse towards setup of more manufacturing sector in our country. China is our one of the biggest importer of lithium ion batteries. Lithium ion batteries  are one of the major source for electric mobility, which should be manufactured in our country.

The government is working on a collaboration model under which the Central PSU Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) with four other foreign firms to set metro coach development facility in the country. In which BHEL will have a 20% stake in the project while four foreign firm will have majority of stake. Like other countries in the world India has also embarked on electrifying its transport sector”, said Anant Geete, Heavy Industries Minister of Government of India.

We have also directed BHEL to make efforts towards manufacturing lithium ion batteries in India, Geete said.

In December last year, Department of Heavy Industries had sanctioned Rs. 440 crore to 11 states for procurement of electric vehicles as a pilot project under FAME scheme of India, will also now foray into metro rail coaches development business. BHEL has earned a profit of over Rs.1,500 crore and secured work orders worth  Rs.1.18 lakh crore. As scope of thermal power sector has been found less, BHEL’s contribution in coach development could give a positive result.

According to Geete, under  FAME I  Delhi Government did not participate in tendering process for allotment of electric buses under which 22 original equipment manufacturers with 80 models are registered for availing demand incentive. Till 31 March, the government has given financial support (demand incentive) to 1,86,431 electric/hybrid vehicles and Fame II to be rolled after September this year primarily focus on utilizing electric vehicle for public transport in cities.
