DMRC commenced the construction work on Phase-IV network

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Development work on some major infrastructure projects in Delhi may continue from next week after the Centre granted conditional permission for such activity in fields where there were no coronavirus disease containment zones and if workers were available on-site.

The decision to release “in-situ” development has come as a relief to some govt of Delhi agencies due to any infrastructure projects have been stuck from last November when the development movement was banned because of high air pollution levels in the city.

That ban was lifted on 14th of Feb only to be reimposed when the nationwide lockdown was started on 25th of March. PM Narendra Modi has extended the lockdown till 3rd of May but some actions have been allowed to kick-start the economy and give job opportunities to regular-wage labourers.

The availability of labours can be a challenge because many thousand migrant workers moved from the city for their towns & villages after the lockdown was stated and work may continue at a slow pace, some big projects are set to continue, as per multiple officials aware of the developments.

“The available workers are not sufficient to run the projects at the pace. So this is expected that initially, the construction work would be slow. We would also have to understand how to get stuff as the factories are closed,” stated a senior Public Works Department official.

On Wednesday the Govt agencies started assessing the inventory of construction material & workers availability, another PWD official added. Delhi Metro Rail Co commenced the development work on Phase IV network in Haiderpur Badli Mor on Dec 31.

The Delhi Development Authority announced that it is imposing the situation and is expected to continue work at ten of its housing sites. “We would commence the work with whatever stock is available on the site,” stated DDA vice-chairperson, Tarun Kapoor.

There was the entirety of 1,578 COVID-19 cases in Delhi on Wednesday, also 56 blocks in the city have been revealed “containment zones”, in which the curbs are more stringent, all action in banned and necessary types of material are home-delivered by the govt.

Pune Metro’s coach still waiting for a green signal from MIDC

PUNE (Metro Rail News): Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) had asked for land from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) & Maharashtra Industrial Development Co. (MIDC) but still has not received any reply. Coaches of the Pune Metro assembling unit is still to get land near Nagpur.

International bids for the supply of a total of 102 coaches for Pune Metro has been given to Titagarh Firema an Indian company in a JV with an Italian firm. The JV is expected to supply a total of 102 state-of-the-art ultra-modern aluminium-bodied coaches.

According to the agreement, 25 per cent of the coaches are to be built at its plant in Italy and the remainder 75% would be built and commissioned at the Maha-Metro coach manufacturing plant. If this appears, it would be for 1st time that aluminium-bodied coaches would be built in India.

The coaches delivery of Pune Metro is assumed to begin from Jan 2021. However, given the pause in land acquisition for this project, there is a tiny chance that Maha-Metro’s plant would be available by then. Maha-Metro had proposed a proposal for acquiring fifty-acre land for the plant in Sept-2018.

Receiving no response from JNPT, the Maha-Metro officials then asked land from MIDC in Butibori and yet it is to get any positive response for that land too.

The DPR of the plant is ready and as per this, the First Phase of the plant would cost Rs hundred crore for the development of the boundary wall, sheds and for purchasing cranes.

Noida Metro to remain suspended till 3rd of May, feeder buses remain to continue supplying food

NOIDA (Metro Rail News): When PM announced to extend the lockdown till 3rd of May, subsequent directions have been issued through the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs to all operational Metros in the country. As per these instructions, services of all trains of the Aqua Line & feeder buses under the Noida Metro Rail Co. (NMRC) are still suspended till May 3, 2020.

NMRC MD Ritu Maheshwari stated that despite the suspension of services, maintenance, regular cleaning, and upkeep of the trains is being taken out according to schedule.

Metro Stations and other systems associated with the smooth working of the Metro are being managed on a daily basis by a dedicated team of NMRC officers & staff, along with that, the feeder buses required in the distribution of basic food items to the needy from community kitchens being performed by the Noida Authority would remain to provide all the service, Ritu Maheshwari said.

This year in March all the passenger trains, inter-state and intra-state bus domestic and international flights, services were cancelled by orders of the central govt to prevent additional spread of the coronavirus.

The order was suitable for metro services and led to the Delhi & Noida metro rail co. halting services until further notice. DMRC & NMRC both have not issued clarity on when services would resume.

Chennai Metro floats tender for safety audit of phase-1 extension

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Work is postponed on north Chennai metro rail line because of the lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus but work outside the production site is on full swing.

The CMRL has floated tenders to appoint a firm to manage a safety assessment of the line that is the 1st step towards opening the line for use. As per the tender invite, Chennai Metro is searching for an independent safety assessor empanelled through the Research Designs & Standards Organisation of the railway ministry.

The assessor would investigate systems that are critical for everyday processes such as train control system, signalling, & its related interface to the trains and platform screen door systems.
First Phase extension line would have 2 underground stations with platform screen doors, while the rest 6 stations would be elevated.

A metro official stated once the independent safety review is made and certified, they will call for an inspection via the commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS), who is the final authority to clear the line for commercial services.

The 9 km long line from Washermenpet-Wimco Nagar was initially supposed to be opened by June 2020. With the lockdown, stalling work at the development site and delaying acquisition of some electrical elements from China and European countries the opening of the line can be delayed by 1-2 month.

An official stated that we are not sure when the CMRS would be invited for inspection as our work is now stopped because of the lockdown. In March, Metro officials turned a trolley to investigate the ballastless tracks and their alignment across the nine km stretch.
