Bengaluru metro construction workers have not got their payment for Feb & March

BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): Despite strict mandates from the Govt of Karnataka along with the Centre thousands of building workers contracted to work on the extension of the Bengaluru metro rail network have not got their payment for Feb & March 2020.

During the nationwide lockdown, this has driven to the shortage of severe food and deteriorated living situations with the majority of workers who have moved from different cities highlighted a detailed report provided by Maraa, a media and arts collective Bengaluru-based. 

Maraa observed that the staff work for 7 days a week around twelve hours every day along with this they work half-days on Sunday. If they don’t serve, their wages are cut. The workers earn Rs 300 for eight hrs of work and Rs 500 for twelve hrs every month, the workers get Rs 13,000-15000 per month. Maraa mentioned in a report.

Some of the companies for that these workers work through subcontracting are Simplex, L&T, IVRCL, URC and ITD. Without any payment, these workers are bound to beat the cost of food ration out of that salary even a part of their salary is deducted on account of the nationwide lockdown. The builders have executed no arrangements the report declared.

It is also mentioned that in light of basic health precautions like social distancing, masks etc. as prescribed by medical guidelines, the living conditions of labour colonies were observed to be sub-standard. Every room in the colony houses 10-15 workers. Social distancing is not possible to practice in these confines.

  • Associate Document Controller – The applicant should be Graduate in any degree. The applicant should have worked at least five yrs experience in that at least two yrs should be in the same post in Civil Infrastructure Projects document control.

Indian Railway Ministry tweeted that no decision on resuming train services from 15th of April

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): On Thursday The Railway Ministry denied media reports that declared the decision has been delivered to start the train services from 15th of April announcing that it has not taken any decision like that yet.

The Railways Ministry explained in a statement that it has not declared any protocol concerning the traveller travel in which post lockdown period. The ministry also stated that all stakeholders would be notified whenever the decision would be taken.

The Railways Ministry tweeted that the Ministry of Railways has not issued any protocol regarding passenger travel during post lockdown period, as has been incorrectly reported in some media reports. As and when a decision is taken, all stakeholders would be intimated. Please do not be led by any misleading media report.

The description came after the media reports declared the aspects of protocols that would be followed for commuter travel after the lockdown is lifted. The reports claimed that passengers might need to reach the railway stations well ahead of the programmed departure time of the train.

Chennai metro to let users make up for lost days

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): The commuters of the metro rail with monthly passes and trips cards can make up for the times they were not prepared to use the service while the lockdown time once the services restart.

The Metro officials announced that the commuters taking these passes and cards can address customer care personnel in any station to get the passes replaced after which they may use the same for the remaining days in the card.

Initially, metro rail operations were cancelled within March 23 and 31 but were closed till 14th of April after the Centre announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown from March 25 to make the spread of coronavirus under control.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited had opened 2,500 monthly pass that enables commuters unlimited rides.

Trip cards provide commuters set a number of trips in a specific number of times within 2 stations.

Bangalore Metro Rail to start extended metro lines

BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): During the nationwide lockdown, the Bangalore Metro Rail Co. Ltd (BMRCL) announced the initiation of commercial services of the extended metro line on Kanakpura Road-Mysuru Road would be on the time provided the current situation is under control by April.

MD of BMRCL, Ajay Seth stated that we are hoping that if the situation becomes normal soon, we would be in a state to commence the commercial services in the scheduled timeline.

However, we cannot tell what difficulties we are going to face in the upcoming days. At this point, we are hoping to commence operations. According to the schedule planned by the BMRCL, the extended Green Line from Yelachenahalli-Anjanapura is intended to start operations from August 15 and the extended Purple Line from Mysuru Road-Kengeri from 1st Nov.

The metro corporation is facing difficulties for the project due to the situation and for the acquisition of NICE land. However, BMRCL is addressed that if incase the acquisition of NICE land gets paused the current depots at Peenya on Green Line and Baiyappanahlli on Purple Line would be used to start the services.

The new Greenline extension adds the total distance of 6.29 km to the current 24.2 km covering from Nagasandra-Yelachenalli. In which the distance of 6.465 km would be added to the current Purple Line that is almost 18.1 km from Mysuru Road station-Baiyappanahalli.

As a precautionary measure to stop the spread of coronavirus like other infrastructure projects in the city development of Namma Metro has also been closed for a short time period.

China continues the metro & railways projects in Beijing

CHINA (Metro Rail News): China has reportedly started the development work again on all the metro & railway projects that were discontinued because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Xinhua said that the Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office declared the resumption of works.

Zhou Guanghui, Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office safety and quality department director said that Beijing has prepared for twenty-one rail projects that have a complete investment of CNY34bn ($4.8bn) in fixed assets in 2020.

This also includes sixteen metro lines that cross the length of around 304.6 km and 5 railway projects crossing more than a distance of 132.1 km. IRCTC suspends booking of 3 private trains till Apr 30

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): On Tuesday IRCTC (The Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation) declared that the operation 3 of private trains suspended till 30th of April due to the pandemic COVID-19 in the country.

These 3 private trains are Tejas Express Train no 82501/82502 that operates among Lucknow-New Delhi, the second one is IRCTC Tejas Express Train no 82901/82902 among Mumbai-Ahmedabad and the third one is IRCTC Kashi Mahakal Express train which operates on the Varanasi-Indore route remain to cancel till 30th of April.

IRCTC would give a total refund for the ticket fare automatically without any cancellation charges to all the passengers who have booked tickets for the journey up to 30th of April. There is no need to cancel tickets from the online portal as this is required in other cases. Previously delayed trains till 14th April owing to the 21-day nationwide lockdown to control the coronavirus spread pandemic. It had also determined to stop reservation of ticket by counters till April 14. Travellers who wanted to book for travel after 14th of April would have to book their tickets via the online IRCTC portal according to the previous reports.

Taiwan does the masks necessary on the rail & inter-city buses

TAIWAN (Metro Rail News): Taiwan has reportedly declared it necessary for passengers on trains along with inter-city buses to use protective masks with instant effect to combat the COVID-19 community spread.

Any person without a mask is being stopped, since 2nd April from boarding Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) & Taiwan High-Speed Rail (THSR) through the state police authorities in a sweeping action.

Also, the thermal screening was executed at all railway stations, ports, and airports, of different areas, according to the local news reports. Minister of Transportation & Communications Lin Chia-lung declared in a statement that all people on public transportation, trains and inter-city buses, have to surely cover the faces with the masks while travelling to curtail the spread of COVID-19 infection as per the reports.

Bangkok opens final section of blue line metro

BANGKOK (Metro Rail News): The Thailand Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) started the final section of the Blue Line metro between Tao Poon-Tha Phra on the western side of Bangkok on 30th of March.

The blue line is now 48 km long with a total thirty-eight stations. The line creates a loop around Bangkok and operates from Tha Phra north by Tao Poon, Bang Sue, Chatuchak Park & Lat Phrao in northern Bangkok before turning south to run via Phetohaburi and Sukhumvit along with the city’s eastern side.

The blue line then turns west passing by Silom, Hua Lamphong mainline station, Tha Phra & Bang Wa to Lak Song. The Line interchanges among the Purple Line, the Silom, Sukhumvit lines, and the Suvarnabhumi Airport Line.

Siemens Mobility & ST Electronics, Thailand, were answerable for supplying a combined rail system for the expansion under a contract by MRTA, Bangkok Expressway and Metro and C H Karnchang.
