Alstom becomes majority shareholder in its Kazakh locomotive joint venture

0

Alstom signed an agreement with the Kazakh National Railway Company (KTZ) to acquire their 25% stake in the EKZ Joint Venture (JV). After approval by the relevant authorities, Alstom will see its total share brought to 75%. The agreement was signed by Maksat Kabashev, KTZ Strategy VP and Didier Pfleger, Alstom Senior Vice-President for Middle-East and Africa.

Alstom Siemens

Alstom entered the Kazakhstan’s railway market in June 2010 together with its Russian partner Transmashholding (TMH), by laying the first stone of the EKZ facility in order to build locomotives for the Kazakh network. The joint company was held by Alstom (25%), TMH (25%) and Kazakh Railways (50%). Alstom, EKZ, TMH and KTZ had signed a contract for the supply of 200 Prima T8 (KZ8A) and 95 Prima M4 (KZ4A) locomotives. The plant was inaugurated in 2012. In 2016, Alstom had acquired another 25% from KTZ. The freight locomotives are now fully assembled at EKZ, the full assembly of passenger locos will start in the beginning of 2018.

By increasing once again Alstom’s share in EKZ, we show our confidence in the attractiveness of Kazakhstan and we contribute to the development of new expertise and skills locally to address not only Kazakhstan’s needs but also regional ones“, said Didier Pfleger.

This acquisition reaffirms Alstom commitment to modernizing Kazakhstan railway and follows the signature of a MoU last week in Astana by Henri Poupart-Lafarge, Alstom Chairman and CEO and Mr Kanat Alpysbayev, President of KTZ, for Alstom other local JV KEP for the modernization of the signalling in 25 railway stations around the country.

Kazakhstan is an important hub linking Europe, Middle East, Asia and Russia through the new Silk Way. With almost 20,000 km of tracks, the Kazakh railway network is the world’s third biggest using the 1,520 mm track gauge. Besides wide and winterized rolling stock able to run in temperatures reaching -50°C, this market is characterized by very specific technical standards which require adapted engineering solutions.

The Prima range is covering all market segments of locomotives from heavy-haul (mostly in China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and India), freight and passenger operation (Europe, Africa, Middle East, and CIS) and shunting or trackworks operation (Europe). The Prima brand stands for innovative traction solutions, including electric or diesel-electric traction systems, as well as hybrid or bi-mode systems.

Maha Metro | PMC delays transfer of land for Pune Metro project

0

Maha Metro: The Maharashtra Metro, which is overseeing work on the Pune Metro, wants to accelerate the construction of the two railway corridors proposed, but since the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has not delivered land for the project, it is likely that delay The Maharashtra Metro has been demanding 16 parcels of land for the project, but the PMC has approved only three parcels.

“We are in constant contact with the PMC officers and we are tracking the proposal for the transfer of land daily, and we hope that the land will soon be transferred to the Pune Metro Rail project,” said a Maharashtra subway official.

He said he had started work on two corridors of the Pune metro, from PCMC to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi by a distance of 31,254 km.

“There should not be a problem in the development of the metro railroad, but the stations would require land and work could begin only after the PMC delivers the land wherever the station is proposed,” the official said.
PMC land officer Satish Kulkarni said the civic body has begun the administrative process to deliver the land to the Maharashtra subway. “The PMC is consulting the civic department interested in possession of the land and will make a decision,” he said.

According to sources, the PMC had promised Maharashtra Metro to land in Wanowrie to establish its office, but now the civic body has said it will not be able to do so.

“The Pune Metro information center has been planned for the convenience of the residents. The location was supposed to be a place with good visibility. The Maharashtra Metro had demanded land in Sambhaji Garden on JM Road, but the PMC refused to say that it can not be given for any construction because of an order from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), “Kulkarni said, adding that the information center is now being created in Peshwe Garden near Sarasbaug, for which the PMC has delivered the earth.

The Maharashtra Metro requires land in Vanaz Kothrud to build a Metro Repository, but the PMC must still make a decision, since a monument to Shivaji is planned there. The Metro has also demanded a large parcel of land in Swargate, but the PMC has only offered to give half the requested size.

However, the Maharashtra Metro has been able to obtain land in the Faculty of Agriculture and the grain competition in Shivajinagar of the Maharashtra government.

Driverless Metro Train in India

MMRDA officials told Hindustan Times, a driver will drive the train for three years after trains can operate without drivers. “Until the process is simplified, there will be a pilot who will operate the trains, we have an option to go without a driver, but that will be executed later and not during the start-up,” said a senior MMRDA official, who did not want to be aforementioned.

Delhi Metro | DMRC suspends four officials, found responsible for driverless metro crash

0

New Delhi: In connection with incident of Delhi Metro’s driverless train in Kalindikunj depot on December 19, DMRC Chief Dr. Mangu Singh approved orders for suspension of four officials connected held primarily responsible for the unexpected incident causing damage to metro property including a train, a shunter and workshop building infrastructure.

The four officials included one Deputy General Manager who was the In-charge of Kalindi Kunj depot, one Assistant Manager under him responsible for the depot activities and a Junior Engineer and Assistant Section Engineer who were involved in operating that train. The suspension is based on the enquiry done by a team of three Executive Director rank officers.

The incident report of the enquiry revealed that this incident was solely attributable to human failure as proper procedures were not followed. The train’s brakes, which were isolated (necessary for push/pull operations in the depot area when a train is required to move with a battery operated vehicle) were not normalized before moving the train on its own power and bringing it for washing at the ramp. As a result, as soon as the operator brought the train at the ramp, it started rolling back, got derailed and hit the wall.

“The incident was a localized incident within the maintenance shed of the depot. This part of the depot is for maintenance of trains and without power for trains. Trains are pulled by a shunter engine and therefore this area is not controlled by signaling system. Accordingly, the train was doing local shunting in this part with a person on board and was not ‘driverless’. Such an operation would would not affect the main line operations in any way whatsoever where public would be carried eventually.”, said in a press release issued by the DMRC.

“The incident was a cause of human error and concerned officers and staff have already been suspended.”, said Anuj Dayalm CPRO of DMRC.

DMRC has also decided to go ahead with the inauguration of the Kalkaji Mandir-Botanical Garden stretch on December 25 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On November 5, 2016 two driverless metro trains were collide from side

It is pertinent to share here that the similar accident was took place on November 5, 2016 in the same depot where two trains were collide from side during the trial run. DMRC set up an inquiry commitee but no conclusion exposed to media.

Three days before a train was got derailed during trial of driverless train in same line. No inquiry commitee set up and no action taken by the DMRC. The final inspection report of Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) can be questioned also as this is concern of passenger safety.

Lucknow Metro | LMRC’s North-south corridor to be ready by April 2018

0

Lucknow:  The government of Uttar Pradesh hopes to operationalize the north-south corridor of the Lucknow Metro by April next year, amid accusations of delays in operations.

About 58 percent of the project (22,878 km) is complete and the government will begin to operate even ahead of time, Dinesh Sharma, deputy chief minister of the UP, told the Legislative Council during question time, while responding to Anand Bhadauria from Samajwadi party on reasons behind the delay.

luck metro

Sharma said that the construction work for the Rs 6,928-crore project is progressing according to schedule and would be in operation by April 2019.

The Leader of the Opposition in the House, Ahmed Hasan, said the Lucknow Metro was a gift from the Samajwadi Party and accused the BJP of snatching the credit by delaying the project for almost nine months.

However, the deputy prime minister argued that the execution of the test in December 2016 violated the established norms.

“It can not be assumed that the test is inauguration, Metro Rail has its own safety parameters, which must be completed and fulfilled, and after that, the subway train will run,” Sharma said.

The Lucknow Metro test run took place on December 1 last year when the state was in election mode to elect a new assembly.

It was marked by the then prime minister Akhilesh Yadav and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav at a function at the Nagar Transport depot for the trial period to the Charbagh train station, a stretch of 8.5 km.
