Namma metro’s NICE project makes progress

BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): Construction work which has not taken off for the last three years due to compensation issues on the four-acre Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) land, will finally be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

On Monday, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa instructed the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) officials to deposit the amount in court and go ahead with the civil work.

The delay over acquiring four acres of NICE land is hampering the Metro work on the Mysore road (Challaghatta stretch) Tumkur road (Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) stretch, Kanakapura Main road stretch, and the Hosur road stretch.

While the BMRCL requires NICE land to build a station at BIEC, the NICE land is required to build the viaduct.

Currently, the BMRCL is unable to start the work on four stretches of Phase II project as the NICE company has brought court stay on the land acquisition process undertaken by the KIADB.

Officials said their first priority is to get the stay order vacated. The instructions were given after the BMRCL reached out to the CM for advice on fixing the compensation amount for the NICE Land. Top officials who attended the closed-door meeting on Monday said that the CM had asked the Advocate General of Karnataka to give an opinion on fixing the compensation package. NICE was not willing to comment on the subject.

A spokesperson from the NICE company told “The matter is subjudice. We have contested the land acquisition process in the High Court”.

It’s learned that the NICE firm challenged the way compensation of its land was evaluated by the KIADB. The sources in the company said “When the IT companies, who got the land for cheaper prices from the KIADB, can claim as much compensation as other land losers, why is the land acquisition agency discriminating against NICE? Let the KIADB offer the same amount of compensation as it is offering to the adjacent properties. We are not asking for more,”.

DPR prepared to connect Old and New Gurgaon by 2020

GURUGRAM (Metro Rail News): By the first half of 2020 work on the extension of the metro line, connecting old and new Gurgaon, could begin. A revised plan, which now awaits approval from the Centre proposes a composite network without any interchange for Rapid Metro and the Gurgaon section of Delhi Metro.

Earlier this year, the Haryana government had the School of Planning and Architecture had submitted its report, on the basis of which a fresh detailed project report (DPR) was prepared, for metro extension in September. But the exit of Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited (RMGL) meant the plan had to be revised.

Earlier this month the new plan was prepared, approved by the board of directors of the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation and the state government, and now awaits approval from the Centre.

The 31-km metro line will be extended up to Rapid Metro station opposite Ambience Mall. Here, instead of making interchange point the metro will run on the same line as the Rapid Metro. The previous DPR had proposed six interchange points in the 25 new metro stations. That has been done away with. Except for these, there are no major changes in the revised plan.

“Parts of the plan had to be modified after RMGL’s exit. The new DPR has not introduced any big changes, only minor tweaks. The plan has been sent to the government for approval,” a senior Gurgaon Municipal Development Authority (GMDA) official said, adding, “It is too early to commit to a deadline, but work on the project is expected to begin soon.”

Tenders for the project could be floated by January or February after approval from the government. The metro station after Huda City Centre, the last station on the Yellow Line now, will be Sector 45. It will go on to Cyber Park, connect Udyog Vihar Phase 6, Palam Vihar and continue onwards till Cyber City Station — 25 stations in all — as proposed in the previous plan. Upon completion, new and old Gurugram will be connected by metro — a relief for commuters from Udyog Vihar, Hero Honda Chowk, and even new Gurugram.

The final plan, prepared by the Haryana Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, is to connect old Gurugram and new Gurugram with a metro loop. With the Regional Rapid Transit System being developed simultaneously, most metro stations will be developed into multi-modal transit points.

Officials are doubtful of making 45 Vande Bharat rakes in 2 years

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Railway Ministry clearing the decks for the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) here to continue making Vande Bharat Express trains is seen as a welcome move though senior officials are doubtful of rolling out 45 rakes, 720 coaches, by 2021-22.

Even if tenders are floated immediately as per the revised specifications approved by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), it would take at least two years to roll out the first prototype for operation after the mandatory oscillation tests and safety approvals.

A senior railway official told on Sunday that, while it would take three months to open tenders for scrutiny, another two months would be needed to finalize and award work.
