Double Decker Viaduct of Nagpur Metro Inaugurated

NAGPUR (Metro Rail News): According to a news report, Central Minister for Road Transport & Highways inaugurated Nagpur’s 3.14 km double-decker flyover on Wardha Road to carry vehicles on the first level and Nagpur Metro’s Orange Line on the second level.

The design of this structure on Wardha Road – spanning between Sonegaon Police Station and Ajni Square was finalized in September 2015 after which the NMRCL revealed a model to the public.
This is the first of three double-decker viaducts planned in Nagpur Metro’s Phase 1 project. The other two are under construction at Gaddigodam (4.375 km) on Kamptee Road also for the Orange Line and at Prajapati Nagar on Bhandara Road for the Aqua Line.
To facilitate its construction, NCC and Matte Associates in November 2016 demolished a 15-year-old flyover at Chatrapati Chowk in an operation that lasted 8 days. The first segment was launched in September 2017 and the first cantilever wing, to carry vehicular lanes, in March 2018.
The first 13 km long section of this project was made operational on March 8, 2019, and the station at Ajni Chowk just opened up on October 22. The three, extremely high, stations located within this section are located at Ujwal Nagar, Jayaprakash Nagar and Chhatrapati Square.

How Phase-IV of Delhi Metro will Different: Find Details Here

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Since 1998, when construction of its first phase started, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has always learnt from its mistakes and incorporated changes while executing the next stage. Phase-IV, work on which started late last year, is no different.
“DMRC has made an extensive plan for its stations in Phase-IV, apart from other systems. These include a new texture for the building exteriors as the current one peels off and gathers dust. The new stations will have bigger escalators and elevators, improved and energy-efficient lighting and better airconditioning. A large number of measures are also being taken to make the new stations theft-proof by removing loopholes in the present security measures”, a news agency reported.
As part of Phase-IV, DMRC is at present working on three approved corridors — Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg, Aerocity to Tughlaqabad and Maujpur to Mukundpur — with a combined length of 61.6km and 46 stations.
A large part of the project cost is incurred on acquiring land. To ensure the minimum possible land requirement for stations in Phase-IV, compact stations have been planned with many utilities and services packed inside smaller spaces. This feat has been achieved at stations like Ashram, where DMRC had faced an acute shortage of land. This experience will be utilised in Phase-IV.

The stations will also sport a different look. “The exterior walls have certain paint textures that tend to peel off and attract dust. Repairs in patches do not match the existing texture. For future stations, smooth finish paints will be opted for the exteriors of the buildings,” a DMRC official was stated saying.
“In the past, cases have been reported of miscreants accessing the viaduct through minor gaps in the structure. Now, the designs will be modified to minimise the gap and make it as theft-proof as possible. These incidents also occur by miscreants using the earthing wire as hand rope to ascend or descend to the target location. Cables will be realigned to curb this situation in future,” the official further added.
The official added, “DMRC will install bigger elevators in Phase-IV stations, which will be able to accommodate 20 people instead of the current carrying capacity of 8 to 13. However, elevators at AIIMS, Delhi Gate and Hauz Khas stations can accommodate up to 26 people.”
For the first time, DMRC is planning to install escalators in sets of two (one for going up and the other for going down) even at non-interchange stations in Phase-IV. “At present, only major interchange stations like Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Hauz Khas, etc have dual or multiple sets of escalators, which cater to both upward and downward movement simultaneously,” said the official.
DMRC plans to install 295 elevators and 644 escalators at its Phase-IV stations. At present, DMRC operates 935 elevators and 1,030 escalators across its 250 stations and other installations.

UPMRC completes a Year of civil construction work of Kanpur Metro Project

KANPUR (Metro Rail News): Kanpur is one of the most prominent cities of Uttar Prades, soon it is going to be identified as a ‘Metro City’. It has been one year completed of the civil construction work of the Kanpur metro under the auspices of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC).

“During the time UPMRC has sustained an astonishing pace of construction with innovation and commitment to deliver metro services to the citizens in a time-bound and achieved many milestones. To keep in mind the constantly growing population, density, and traffic problems of the city, on March 8th, 2019, the foundation stone of Kanpur Metro Project was laid down by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the dignified presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Subsequently, on the 15th of November 2019, the construction work of 9 Kilometer long ‘Priority Corridor’, between IIT and Motijheel, of Kanpur Metro Project has started by CM Yogi Adityanath in the impendence of Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs. After this inception, the UP Metro faced all the challenges with full strength and doing the civil construction in such a way that the Kanpur Metro project has emerged as an example for other metro projects in the country”, it said in a statement.

UPMRC the team of the engineers has made several innovations with the objective of delivering metro services to Kanpurites within the stipulated time frame and set down new paradigms for other metro projects in the country. UP Metro used double T-girders to form the base of the concourse (first floor of the upstream station) of the metro stations under the Kanpur Metro project, which is used for the first time in the country with the prime objective of speeding construction work and making better infrastructure.

A look at the first-year journey of Kanpur Metro

On 15th November 2019 Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated Civil Construction of Kanpur Metro. On December 31, 2019, the first pier (Pillar) of the Priority Corridor, being built between IIT to Motijheel, was ready. A total of 506 piers are to be prepared in the long primary section, out of which 294 piers have been completed so far.
On January 20, 2020, the casting of U- Girders was started in the Lakhanpur casting yard. A U-girder is about 27 meters long and about 4 meters wide, weighing about 150 tons. Pier cap erection (construction) began on 2 March 2020. A total of 300 pier caps are to be kept in the 9-kilometre long primary section, out of which 132 have been laid. The pier cap fits into the upper part of the metro pier. On July 25, 2020, UP Metro placed the first double T-girder for the concourse of IIT Metro station. Within 2.5 months’ UP Metro completed an erection of 100 double T-girders.

A total of 384 double T-girders are to be laid for the 9 metro stations of the priority corridor out of which 165 have been placed so far. On August 11, 2020, U-girder erections started near the IIT Kanpur under the primary corridor in the presence of the Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh. On the very first day, two U-girders were placed. A century of U-girder erection was completed within just 67 days. A total of 638 U-girders are to be placed in the primary section, out of which 142 U-girders have been positioned so far.

DMRC To Provide Real-Time Update On Waiting Time at High Footfall Stations

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): In a first, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will provide real-time average waiting time at selected busy stations during morning and evening peak hours, in case the waiting time goes beyond 20 minutes.
Starting from tomorrow, i.e, 12th November, 2020, the official social media pages/handles of DMRC will post updates on the average waiting time at ten stations during peak hours in the morning (8:30 AM to 10:30 AM) and evening (5:30 PM to 7:30 PM). This initiative is aimed at helping commuters plan their journey effectively so as to avoid long queues at entry/exit.

Following stations are being covered under this initiative:-

Chandni Chowk

Chawri Bazaar
Patel Chowk
Rajiv Chowk
Central Secretariat
Huda City Centre
Lal Quila
Barakhambha Road
JLN Stadium
Saket

The operations staff deployed at these stations will continuously monitor the crowd at these stations during peak hours and assess the waiting time. The same will further be informed to commuters if it goes beyond 20 minutes, through official social media handles/pages of DMRC. In case of any fluctuations in traffic/crowd, the waiting time will be modified accordingly and will be also informed subsequently”, the DMRC said.
The selection of these stations and the timings for providing updates has been done on the basis of traffic observed during peak hours. This is being started on an experimental basis and will be considered for implementation on more stations,if required, on the basis of the feedback received from the commuters.

Presently, commuters are being permitted into Metro stations only after adhering to prescribed Covid related norms. The number of passengers in the trains has also been restricted to ensure social distancing.

The Casting of Piers for Mumbai Metro Line-9 Begins

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): J Kumar Infraprojects started the casting of the first pier for Mumbai Metro’s 11.38 km Line-9 which is proposed to connect Dahisar East with Mira Bhayandar.
The first pier, P63, is located right across from Thakur Mall near the proposed Pandurang Wadi Station and is estimated to be 9 meters high. 491 piers will be cast for this line in the north-western suburbs according to a news report.
The contract of this line’s construction under package CA-48 – a northern extension of the under-construction 16.5 km Line-7 – was awarded to J Kumar Infraprojects by the MMRDA in January 2020.
The scope of the work includes the construction of 3 double-decker viaducts on Kashmira Road measuring 1.5 km, 1.1 km and 754m for vehicles and metro trains, and 7 stations at Pandurang Wadi (interchange with Line-10), Miragaon, Kashigaon, Sai Baba Nagar, Meditya Nagar, Shaheed Bhaghat Singh Garden and Subhash Chandra Bose Ground.

Pier Work Gets a Start for Delhi – Alwar RRTS Line

GURUGRAM (Metro Rail News): Construction firm KEC – CCECC JV have started initial work for the casting of piers near Atul Kataria Chowk in Gurugram for constructing the National Capital Region’s second Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) line which will be connecting Delhi – Gurugram – SNB (Shahjahanpur – Neemrana – Behrod) through a 106.5 km line.
The Delhi – SNB RRTS line will have a speed of 180 km per hour. The Delhi – SNB RRTS line was approved for construction by the Haryana Government in February 2019 and this package’s work will be financed mostly through government funds. For civil works, foreign lenders are expected to play crucial roles according to sources.
The construction work of a 10 km long elevated section of this corridor had been awarded to GR Infraprojects Ltd. (GRIL) in May 2020 with a deadline of 2.5 years. The firm had placed a bid of Rs. 592.17 crore which was found to be lowest among all.
The Scope of the work includes Construction of the Elevated Viaduct from the end of the Ramp at IDPL Complex to Start of Ramp at Rajiv Chowk and three nos. of Elevated Stations viz., Udyog Vihar, Sector-17 and Rajiv Chowk of Delhi- SNB Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor.

Godrej & Starworth Awarded Bangalore Metro Phase 2’s Finishing Work

BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has awarded Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. and Starworth Infrastructure & Construction Ltd. with contracts to complete architectural finishing work at 23 stations of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project.
All 23 stations are under different stages of construction by ITD Cementation (India) Ltd. through 4 civil contracts awarded in 2017 for the Purple Line’s 15.257 km eastern extension (Reach 1A & 1B) to Whitefield and 12.803 km Bommasandra – HSR Layout section (Reach 5 – P1 & P2) on the new 19.143 km Yellow Line connecting RV Road – Silkboard – Bommasandra. BMRCL had re-invited bids for both packages in June.
Purple Line – Reach 1A & Reach 1B (13 Stations)Scope: Planning & Execution of Architectural Finishing works, Public Health Engineering works for 13 Nos of stations in Reach-1 Extensions (R1A & R1B) for Bangalore Metro Rail Project, Phase-2. It has been awarded to Starworth Infrastructure & Construction Ltd with a contract value of Rs 119.78 crores.

Yellow Line – Reach 5 P1 & P2 (10 Stations)Scope: Architectural Finishing works and Public Health Engineering works for 10 stations of Reach-5 (P1&P2) viz., Bommasandra, Hebbagodi, Husker Road, Electronic city-l, Hosa Road, Basapura Road, Chikkabegur, Muneshwara Nagar, Oxford College, HSR layout for Bangalore Metro Rail Project, Phase-2. It has been awarded to Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd with a Contract Value of Rs 92.88 crores.

Ahluwalia Contracts gets contract worth Rs 530 Crores

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Ahluwalia Contracts (India) has secured a new contract worth around Rs 530 crores. The company has bagged the order for construction of Mandale Depot of Mumbai Metro Rail project. It has secured the mandate from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
The total order inflow of the company stands at Rs 1,243.14 crore during the FY21. Net profit of Ahluwalia Contracts (India) rose 37.34% to Rs 17.95 crore in the quarter ended September 2020 as against Rs 13.07 crore during the previous quarter ended September 2019.

According to a report, the firm’s sales rose 0.19% to Rs 434.51 crore in the quarter ended September 2020 as against Rs 433.69 crore during the previous quarter ended September 2019.

Kochi to host UMI Conference in October 2021

Three Firms Participate for Porur–Poonamallee Section of Chennai Metro’s Line-4

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Three construction firms have submitted tenders to construct the 7.945 km elevated Package ECV-02 from Porur Junction to Poonamallee Bypass of Chennai Metro’s new 26.09 km Line-4 after the Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. opened technical bids.
This is the second elevated package of Line-4 (LightHouse – Poonamallee Bypass) of the upcoming 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project where technical bids have been opened. Besides a viaduct, it consists of 9 stations and a depot-line to a train maintenance depot at Poonamallee. CMRL had invited tenders for its construction in August and it has set a deadline of 36 months for completing all civil works.
The Bidders are Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. – KEC International (HCC – KEC) JV, Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T) & NCC Ltd.

Scope of the work includes Construction of Elevated Metro Stations At Construction of Elevated Metro Stations at Chennai bypass crossing, Ramachandra Hospital, Iyyapanthangal Bus Depot, Katupakkam, Kumanan Chavadi, Karayan Chavadi, Mullai Thottam, Poonamallee Bus Terminus, Poonamallee Bypass & associated viaduct from chainage 17982.240 to chainage 25928.186 and approach to the depot at Poonamallee & all associated works. The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple of months to complete.
This section of the Line-4 will be partly financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) through a $356.65 million (approx. Rs. 2700 crore) loan. The loan’s concept review was approved on December 13, 2019.
