Alstom delivers the 100th electric locomotive of 12,000 HP to Indian Railways

Alstom, India’s biggest multinational sustainable mobility provider with a comprehensive portfolio of offerings, has successfully manufactured and delivered the 100th electric locomotive to Indian Railways. As part of the contract worth €3.5 billion won in 2015, the company will be supplying 800 fully electric high-powered double-section locomotives of 12,000 HP (9 MW) for freight service, capable of hauling ~6,000 tonnes at a top speed of 120 km/hr. This is the largest Foreign Direct Investment project in the Indian Railway sector.

In the financial year 2020-2021, Indian Railways recorded a freight loading of 1,232 million tonnes, which was 2% higher than the previous fiscal. Introduction of faster trains has helped increase the average speed of transportation by 83% leading to a shorter turnaround time and has supported the movement of essential goods during COVID-19 times **.

With the first Prima T8TM WAG-12Binducted for commercial service in May 2020, these locomotives are transforming the heavy freight transportation landscape of India. Deployed for operations on major freight routes, including Dedicated Freight Corridors, the Prima T8TM WAG-12Be-Locos have already clocked over close to 5 million kilometres hauling a wide range of commodities. These locomotives also made the inaugural run on the first fully operational sections of the Dedicated Freight Corridors, in December 2020. Some of the key commodities moved by these e-Locos include – coal, cement, food grains, fertilisers, petrochemical products, minerals, and posts/ parcels, across 17 States & 2 Union Territories.

Speaking on this milestone, Alain Spohr, Managing Director – Alstom Indiasaid, “I’m pleased to mention that despite challenges posed by COVID-19, we have been able to successfully manufacture and deliver 100 e-Locos to the Indian Railways in less than a year. Due to the intricacy of the project, it is really an honour to work on a first-of-its-kind ‘Make in India’ project that resulted in a technology breakthrough for the nation. Our successful collaboration with Indian Railways is paving the way for bringing advanced innovation and technology to the Country. Alstom is committed to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient solutions for IR’s revolutionary journey towards becoming the world’s first 100% green railways”.

The Prima T8TM WAG-12Be-Locos are built at one of India’s largest integrated greenfield manufacturing facilities at Madhepura (Bihar). Spread across 250 acres, this industrial site is built to international standards of safety and quality. The site has installed production capacity of 120 locomotives per annum and Alstom has progressively achieved over 85% indigenization. With these powerful e-Locos being manufactured within the country, India has become the 6th in the world to join the club of countries producing high horsepower locomotives indigenously.

The project also includes setting up of two ultramodern maintenance depots in Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Nagpur (Maharashtra). These depots are equipped with the latest technologies and features to anticipate breakdowns thereby enabling proactive maintenance of India’s most advanced freight locomotives at significantly lower costs. The depot in Saharanpur is currently operational and houses a ‘Training Centre’ equipped with a loco simulator and smart classrooms for skill development of railway employees and loco pilots. Till date, more than 500 loco pilots from Indian Railways have been trained and going forward, an additional 500 will be trained annually. The Nagpur depot will be functional next year.

New Business opportunities in Metro Rail Sector

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Durga Shankar Mishra complimented embassy of Spain for organizing the PAN India business forum. He has mentioned various aspect of collaboration and Investment in India and also discussed the current state and the journey towards an Aatmanirbhar Urban Transport Sector.

The explanation include various avenues of collaboration & investment opportunities in the urban transport sector between the two countries with a special focus on “Smart Mobility”, especially in the Metro Sector.

Durga Shankar said, “In fact, in the last 6-7 years the country has emerged as a country of opportunities where a lot of investments are possible and has created an ecosystem where the new technologies, the innovation can come in and they can find a place as Make In India investment and later they can also be used for export outside. Under the metro our country started the first metro somewhere in the year 1984 but real significance improvement started in the year 2002.

When the first metro rail was inaugurated in Delhi by the then Prime Minister ‘Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee’ but till 2014 we had only 240 km of metro. In the last 6 year we have got 725km of metro operational. We have another 1000km of metro or RRTS under construction across the country in 27 cities.” Regional transport is going to stop on 16 stations on the way .we have recently come out with two different specification which is Metro Lite & Metro Neo basically meant for our Tier 2 cities or the outer area of Tier 1 cities and tier 3 cities which are costing around Metro Lite cost 40% and Metro Neo cost around 20 to 25% but they provide same kind of comfort, convenience, similar kind of riding experience punctuality etc. and gain to the environment.

Shri Durga Shankar then shared his proud experience visiting to Spain in 2018 Nov, after travelling in the Regional train and Metro train. He then appreciated the excellent job done in European continent and invited them to invest in Indian Metro Sector further explaining the benefits of cheap source of men power and growth opportunity in India both in Metro as well as 10 trillion dollar Economy growth in next 10 years.

Also requested to focus more in Make in India i.e. the technology should become the part of Indian technology. And investment could be done either in strategic form in collaboration with some existing companies or can bring fresh investment here for any kind of manufacturing whether it is in a metro coaches or assembling system, electrical system, civil engineering system or any kind of component which is required for this metro operation.

Bentley Acceleration Initiatives Acquires Indian Project Controls Specialist Nadhi Information Technologies

Bentley Acceleration Initiatives today announced the acquisition of Chennai, India-based Nadhi Information Technologies Pvt. Ltd., a specialist in project controls, analytics, and decision support for construction supply chains. Nadhi serves some of India’s leading construction sector participants, including contractors Larsen & Toubro and Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd., real estate developers Mahindra Lifespaces and RMZ, and owner-operators DMRC (Delhi Metro) and Welspun Enterprises. Founded in 2008, Nadhi was incubated in the IIT Madras Research Park with advisors from the IIT Madras Building Technology and Construction Management faculty and the Lean Construction Institute.

Bentley Acceleration Initiatives is the internal incubator for strategic investments of Bentley Systems (Nasdaq: BSY), the infrastructure engineering software company. Its objective is to bring together ecosystem partners in digital co-ventures. Nadhi brings to Bentley a critical mass of field-experienced professionals in construction automation, attuned to their region’s specific challenges and project dynamics. The acquisition strengthens Bentley’s focus on Asia, which is experiencing huge demand for new construction of infrastructure and has a keen appetite for digital workflows to help address this need. According to Fitch Solutions Country Risk and Industry Research, while China and the U.S. will remain the two highest-value construction markets globally, India and Indonesia will rise to the third and fourth highest-value markets by 2029.

Currently, project teams in Asia are often held back by conventional construction methodologies and obstacles to public cloud deployments, experiencing delays and cost overruns because of poorly coordinated schedules and the lack of visibility into project status. Project managers are looking for a solution that helps them interconnect their data silos—spanning documents, schedules, budgets, issues and risks, resources, and materials—all in one environment.

Some of the best-managed construction projects are now using Nadhi’s services to solve these challenges and improve their project delivery using digital workflows. Since offering lean construction consulting services in 2008, Nadhi has pioneered mobile-enabled project controls. In an offering explicitly configured for the needs of project teams in Asia, the integrated project controls in Nadhi’s nPulse software combines data-driven decision support and predictive analytics to give engineering and construction projects early warning of schedule risks and potential delays in milestone completion, advancing project planning and execution from reactive to proactive.

Dr. Ashit Gandhi, senior director, accelerated business development, Bentley Systems, said, “We are very pleased to welcome Nadhi’s construction automation experts as Bentley colleagues. Together, we see a significant new opportunity to help construction projects throughout Asia, especially for road and rail linear infrastructure, in ‘going digital’. Combining Nadhi’s proven project controls and analytics capabilities with Bentley’s SYNCHRO 4D construction modeling and field-based construction delivery will enable more integrated and efficient digital workflows, tailored specifically to Asian needs.”

Kalyan Vaidyanathan, CEO, Nadhi Information Technologies, said, “The whole team at Nadhi is excited to be joining Bentley Systems at this pivotal moment for India’s construction community. We look forward to deepening our capabilities in core areas of project controls and expanding our reach both in and beyond India for new opportunities. We believe, as part of Bentley, we will be even more strongly positioned to help our users to stay in control of their projects and to generate insights through analytics to avoid delays and improve confidence through visibility.”

Nadhi will add approximately 30 colleagues; its annualized revenues and profitability are not material to, and are not expected to meaningfully impact, the BSY financial outlook for 2021.
