For this, the environmental and social baseline knowledge will be collected on all the proposed stretches at selected areas. A Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) official mentioned, “The final date to submit the bid is April 25. The bid will be opened on April 26. The awarded agency has to hold out a survey within two weeks.”
After the project was announced in 2022-2023 budget, the JMRC started the exercise. Under this project, the JMRC has planned the construction of a 2 km elevated stretch connecting Mansarovar and a 200-feet bypass at Ajmer Highway. This project is estimated to cost Rs 400 crore.
In the proposal, it was stated that it’s going to provide connectivity to commuters from Ajmer Highway, Vaishali Nagar and close by localities. Under this project, the JMRC has proposed to construct just one station on Ajmer Highway because this location has potential as the majority of buses coming from Ajmer, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Delhi, and Ahmedabad stops here, therefore it’ll act as an interchange level for passengers.
HYDERABAD (Metro Rail News): MetroRide which is the artificial intelligence (AI) enabled ride-hailing mobility platform, has launched electric auto services for Hyderabad Metro Rail to provide first and last-mile connectivity.
The e-auto service was launched on Thursday besides Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (LTMRHL) and with support from WRI India (World Resources Institute) and UK charity Shell Foundation. The event was held at the Parade Ground Metro Rail station and the services will also be available at Raidurg. The e-auto facility will be extended to other stations in the coming days.
These e-rickshaws will provide connectivity to the areas within a 5-km radius of the Parade Ground and Raidurg stations, and the minimum charge for the ride will be Rs 10. As per a statement, a survey was conducted which showed that 38 per cent of those who do not use the Metro Rail services stay away because of the lack of an affordable, accessible and reliable first and last-mile service from the metro stations. This new service is launched to rectify the problem and aims to serve one million customers in the first year.
Speaking at the launch event, N.V.S. Reddy, MD, HMRL said, “Improving the first and last mile connectivity is an important goal for us. We believe that providing these electric auto services would have a positive socio-economic impact to all stakeholders and make the journey more comfortable for Metro Rail users.”
The entire process of installing this special steel span over the EPE was completed within the specified blocks with minimum disruptions. For the installation of this massive special steel span, first, the entire steel span structure was erected on the top of a structure consisting of beams and columns, near the actual location. After the entire structure was built, it was moved towards the pillars on both sides and installed with the help of a winch and roller system. The whole process was very challenging and complicated, as it is a very heavy structure.
The construction of this special steel span installed is so precise and perfect that no further construction is required after its installation. After its installation, the next step of construction like track laying and installation of OHE etc. can be started immediately.
With the successful installation of this special steel span, the construction of India’s first RRTS corridor between Delhi and Meerut has entered the next phase. So far 5 special steel spans have been installed, including this span, for the Delhi Meerut RRTS corridor, one 73 meters long special span at Vasundhara on the main railway line, one 150 meters long steel span near Ghaziabad station, two 45 meters long spans for RRTS Viaduct leading to Duhai Depot and this 73-meter long span constructed to cross EPE.
NCRTC usually erects pillars at an average distance of 34 meters for the construction of an elevated viaduct of the RRTS corridor. After which the launching gantry builds the viaduct of RRTS. However, in some complex areas where the corridor is crossing rivers, bridges, rail crossings, metro corridors, expressways or other such existing infrastructure, it is not practically possible to maintain this distance between pillars.
Special steel spans are being used to connect the pillars in such areas. Special steel spans are massive structures, consisting of beams made of structural steel. NCRTC constructs these special spans only in RDSO approved factories. The design and size of these special steel spans are determined as per the requirement of the RRTS corridor.
KOCHI (Metro Rail News): The service between Kochi Metro‘s Petta and SN Junction is expected to start in June, according to officials as they are gearing up for trial runs from the end of this month. Meanwhile, the construction of the stations on the Vadakkekotta and SN Junction stretch is going to complete soon.
The speed trials on the tracks have been completed however the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner’s final inspection is expected to be held in May. The officials said that the fire inspection of Vadakkekotta and SN Junction stations is scheduled for the last week of April. This Petta-SN Junction stretch is being implemented directly by Kochi Metro Rail Ltd whereas the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was in charge of the first phase till Petta.
Once the services are extended to SN Junction, the city will have a total of 24 metro stations. Meanwhile, the work under Phase 1 (B) extension from SN Junction to Tripunithura is also moving forward. About 85 per cent of land acquisition for this stretch has been completed and almost 68 per cent of the piling work for the new Metro station and 30 per cent work for track construction have been completed.
PUNE (Metro Rail News): The Maharashtra government on Wednesday, 20th April has approved the Swargate to Katraj underground metro route extension and will provide a share of Rs 450.95 crore for the project. The total project cost is Rs 3,668 crore and it is expected to be completed by April 2027.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in September, 2021 had cleared the extension of the underground metro rail route which is a stretch of 5.4 km and sent a proposal for approval to the Maharashtra government. As the state government has cleared the metro route, the proposal will now be sent to the Centre, and if the clearance is given by the Centre the work will begin soon.
Earlier, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar had said that the state government has decided to fund the project despite escalated costs due to the underground metro rail. “In the earlier meeting with the authorities, I had told them, the Swargate-Pimpri route can be expanded till Katraj and the route was approved. In the route expansion, there is the share of corporations and state and centre governments. The Centre should play its part, and the corporation (PMC) will play its part,” he had said.
The Maharashtra government requested the central government to approve the project and provide its share of Rs 440.32 crore. The state government also approved borrowing Rs 1,803.79 crore loan from the financial institutions but the loan repayment would be done by Maha-Metro only for which the state government will not take any burden.
Atul Gadgil, project director, Maha-Metro, said, “We have cleared one hurdle as we have got state government nod. Now, the Urban Development Department nod would help commence work on this extension of route.”
“The consultant will suggest measures for enhancing safety such as if a walkway can be constructed along the track for carrying out safe evacuation”, an official said.
As per the MMRDA officials, the Monorail route passes through very crowded and residential areas like Mahul bay, Wadala bridge road and Curry Road railway station. “The Monorail runs on a single middle unit guideway beam and there is no room for passengers to get out without stopping at the station in case of a fire or any breakdown in power supply,” the official said.
“As Monorail runs on a single middle track, if a train stops between two stations, there is no space for the passengers to get down. The route covers risky sites like Wadala, Curry Road, Anik Panjarpol link road and the Lalbagh flyover. If a train stops at these places, it is difficult to get the commuters out. There are difficulties in rescue operations in such areas and hence, an emergency system will be set up to ensure the safety of passengers in the event of an accident,” the official added.
NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro’s Blue line which runs between Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida Electronic City and Vaishali, Ghaziabad is experiencing a delay in services today. According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), all other lines are functioning normally.
Constant announcements were made inside the metros as well as the stations about the delay in the metro and according to the officials, the delay was due to a fault in the signalling system.
DMRC, in a tweet, said, “Blue Line Update: Delay in services between Dwarka Sector 21 and Noida Electronic City/Vaishali. Normal service on all other lines.”
GHAZIABAD (Metro Rail News): Work on a multi-level parking near the Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda metro station and the upcoming Ghaziabad RRTS station has started. The parking will ease the problems of traffic on one of the busiest stretch in the city.
The UP Jal Nigam officials who are executing the project informed that the multi-level parking is likely to be ready for use in the next 18 months. “A piece of land, measuring 5,762 sqm, has been handed to us. We have already started the plinth work,” said a Jal Nigam official. “We have set an October 2023 deadline for the parking project. Hopefully, it will be over before that,” the official added.
This multi-level parking is being funded by the state government under the smart city project and is going to cost Rs 41.2 crore. “It will be a 5-storey parking facility and have the capacity to accommodate 200 four-wheelers and 542 two-wheelers at a time,” the official said. “The Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda metro station, which is close to the parking project, will directly benefit from it. Its utility will grow manifold when the 17km priority section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS starts to function by the middle of next year”, the official added.
“The Meerut tri-section, where the Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda metro station is located, is one of the busiest areas of the city and space crunch only adds to the parking woes. That will only worsen after the Ghaziabad RRTS corridor becomes operational next year,” said a Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation official. “The multi-level parking near Red Mall will be very close to the metro and the RRTS stations. That is why it has been planned there. The project report has been approved by the state government and the work has started too. Once ready, the parking lot will prove to be a respite for the commuters. In the absence of proper facilities, people are forced to park their vehicles along the roads or pavements, which often leads to snarls in the area,” the official added.
