DMRC seeks loan of 2,700 crore, invites bids from 18 banks

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is seeking a loan of Rs 2,700 crore to buy the Airport Line assets, for which it has invited bids from 18 banks. This decision comes after the decision of Supreme Court in which the court instructed DMRC to pay Rs 4,600 crore plus interest to Reliance Infrastructure for the termination of a contract to operate the Airport Express Line.

DMRC had sent a letter to 18 banks on May 19 which stated, “DMRC proposes to raise loan to the tune of Rs 2,700 crore for purchase of Airport Line assets.” The Banks, which are willing to extend the above loan, are requested to submit their bid on the broad terms and conditions, the letter added. The Banks to which the letter was sent included State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Yes Bank, etc.

According to DMRC‘s bid Rs 2,700 crore will be drawn within 12 months, with the loan tenor being 15 years including a 4-year moratorium. The loan will be given against DMRC’s property and lands.

The Airport Express Line links the New Delhi Railway Station to the city airport and it was commissioned on February 23, 2011 at an investment of over Rs 2,885 crore. This project was funded by the DAMEPL promoters’ fund, banks, and financial institutions.

KANPUR (Metro Rail News): Kanpur Metro today successfully entered into a new phase of Metro construction under the leadership of Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC). Keshav inaugurated the construction work on the 3 KMS long underground stretch between Kanpur Central and Transport Nagar of the Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta). After the pooja ceremony, the D-wall cage was lowered at the Jhakarkati Metro Station. Three underground Metro Stations are to be constructed under this section viz. Kanpur Central, Jhakarkati & Transport Nagar.

UPMRC MD Kumar Keshav Said, “Kanpur Metro is moving towards a new phase with the commencement of construction works on the underground section between Kanpur Central & Transport Nagar as this stretch is one of the busiest routes of the city and covers several prominent places. Construction works are already being executed on the underground section between Chunniganj & Nayaganj. It is my firm belief that our team will continue this dedication and the decided targets will be achieved in the stipulated time.”

Presently, passenger services of Kanpur Metro are operational on the 9 KMS long Priority Section IT Motijheel), Under the 23 KMs long Corridor-1 (IIT-Naubasta), beyond Motijheel Metre Station: the underground stretch of the corridor is Being constructed in two phases; the first one is comprigno Chunniganj. Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha & Nayaganj Metro Stations and the second one is comprising Kanpur Central, Jhakarkall and Transport Nagar Metre Stations Alter this 7KMs long underground section, around 5KMs land between Baradevi and Naubasta will be elevated.

NCRTC urges TRAI for allotment of spectrum required for RRTS corridor

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on 9 June 2022 issued a discussion paper on the spectrum needs of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) for train control system with regard to RRTS corridors.

NCRTC had urged the telecom department for allotment of spectrum required for train control systems for RRTS, which is being implemented in eight rail corridors including three corridors of about 350 km along Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar, Delhi-Panipat in the first phase.

Following this, DoT(Department of Telecom) approached TRAI seeking recommendations on administrative assignment of spectrum to NCRTC and on aspects like quantum, pricing, charging, and various terms and conditions for separate spectrum need of the corporation in the 700 MHz band.

DoT also requested the TRAI for “any other recommendations deemed fit for the purpose, including assignment of the same spectrum for other RRTS, metro rail network pan India”.

It is in this context that TRAI has floated a consultation paper on spectrum requirement of NCRTC for train control system for RRTS corridors seeking inputs from stakeholders.

TRAI has fixed a deadline of July 7, 2022 for written comments on various issues raised in the discussion paper, while the date for counter comments is July 21.

Karnataka govt. approves extension of BMRCL metro project from Bommasandra to Hosur

KARNATAKA (Metro Rail News): The Karnataka government has approved the extension of 20. 5 Km for Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMCRL) metro project from Bommasandra to Hosur. The Karnataka government has also asked the Tamil Nadu government to conduct a study for the implementation of the project, informed Krishnagiri MP Dr A Chellakumar.

Chellakumar informed that BMRCL had previously sent a proposal to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs ( MoHUA) regarding the project on May 23. “The Phase-2 of BMRCL metro rail project is being implemented up to Bommasandra from RV Road metro station of Phase-1. Adding to this, a 20.5 km stretch till Hosur in Tamil Nadu was approved by Karnataka Chief Minister.

According to the MP, the corridor from Bommasandra to Hosur will cross between both states, therefore coordination in sharing the project cost and monetary support between the two States is needed. “This is the dream project for thousands of people in Hosur, who regularly commute to work to Bengaluru. If the project is implemented, it will benefit people of both States socially and economically,” he said.

IR to adopt upgraded system for new Vande Bharat Express trains

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Indian Railways (IR) has decided to double the number of overhead power lines to make sure that the new Vande Bharat Express trains can ply comfortably.

The Railway Board released an order according to which all electrification of routes will now be authorized with a 2×25 KV traction system only. This is an upgrade from 1×25 KV traction system already in place.

This decision aims to provide higher capacity electrification that will accompany the 75 Vande Bharat trains which are scheduled to hit the tracks by August 2023. Meanwhile, 400 new trains are planned to be manufactured over the next three years.

A tender worth Rs 1140 crore has already been awarded for upgrading electrification on 1650 track km on the high density section between Delhi and Mugalsararai.

The budget for higher capacity electrification of the Mumbai-Delhi, and Delhi-Howrah routes have been authorized whereas the budgetary allocation for upgraded electrification of the Mumbai-Chennai and Kolkata-Chennai routes is at the pre-sanctioning stage.

Delay in Delhi Metro services yet again due to technical snag

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Services on Delhi Metro‘s Blue Line were delayed again on Thursday, June 9, 2022 morning, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. Taking to its official Twitter account, the DMRC informed that the delay in services has been between Dwarka Sector 21 and Noida Electronic City/Vaishali metro stations.

DMRC on its Twitter account informed about the reason for the delay which was damage to the over head electrification wire due to flash over by an external object between Yamuna Bank and Indraprastha.

This problem arose during the peak office hours, therefore, inconveniencing many office going passengers. A huge crowd of passengers were gathered at the metro stations waiting for the normal services to start soon.

Now passengers can carry cycles in Bengaluru metros

BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) in a press release has stated that now foldable cycles will be allowed in the metros but only in the last coach. The Metro users will be exempted from payment charges of luggage that is foldable bicycles that do not exceed 15 kg in weight.

BMRCL is pleased to announce Metro commuters can carry a foldable bicycle in the last coach of Metro train along with their travel. The size of the foldable bicycle shall not exceed 60 cm X 45 cm X 25 cm in dimension and not exceeding 15 kgs in weight,” the release stated. BMRCL in the release has informed that this decision has been taken to promote the green initiative.

“The bicycle shall be packed properly so that it does not damage the interiors of Metro coaches. Also, it shall not cause inconvenience to co-passengers,” the release further stated.

Some passengers fear that not everyone can afford the new foldable cycles as they are expensive and therefore this move will not benefit everyone.

Addressing this concern PC Mohan, a BJP Lok Sabha MP from Bengaluru, tweeted: “BMRCL announces that commuters can carry a foldable bicycle in trains. Considering the requests of the public and cyclists, BMRCL must also permit regular bicycles. Allowing bicycles will resolve the first and last mile connectivity hurdles for many commuters in Bengaluru.”

NHSRCL: Over 90 per cent of land for MAHSR acquired

AHMEDABAD (Metro Rail News): National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has informed that more than 90 per cent of land which is required for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project has been acquired. The project is spread across Gujarat, Maharashtra and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

The total land requirement for the project is 1,396 hectares out of which 1,260.76 hectares of land has already been acquired, NHSRCL informed. According to a release shared by NHSRCL, in Gujarat 98.79 per cent of the land has been acquired whereas in Maharashtra 71.49 per cent of land has been acquired till now.

As per details shared by the NHSRCL in a release, 98.79 per cent of the land required for the project in Gujarat has been acquired, while in Maharashtra, 71.49 per cent of land has been acquired. In Dadra and Nagar Haveli all the 7.90 per cent hectares of land that is required has been acquired.

According to NHSRCL, the construction works are in different stages on the eight stations for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project in Gujarat, and 100 per cent contracts have been awarded for the construction on the 352-km route in the state and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. There will be 12 stations on the route of the bullet train, of which eight will be in Gujarat and four will be in Maharashtra and its control centre will be located at Sabarmati in Ahmedabad. There will be three depots for this project which will be built at Surat and Sabarmati in Gujarat and Thane in Maharashtra.

DELHI (Metro Rail News): A massive fire had broken out in the Jamia Nagar metro station parking in Delhi in which at least 10 vehicles have been damaged. At least 30 new e-rickshaws, 50 old e-rickshaws, and 1 motorcycle were also damaged in the accident.
