GHAZIABAD (Metro Rail News): Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) had formed a committee that has approved the ropeway project route which is going to link Mohan Nagar and Vaishali Metro stations. According to the officials, another ropeway has been proposed which will link Sahibabad to Sector 62 in Noida, instead of the Vaishali to Sector 62 route which was proposed earlier.

The project in Ghaziabad has been planned as an alternate to the Metro rail network due to the cost factor. In January 2020, DMRC had submitted a DPR to the GDA, which estimated that around Rs 1,517 crore would be needed to link Sector 62 and Mohan Nagar Metro stations and Rs 1,808.22 crore for connecting Vaishali and Mohan Nagar Metro stations.

Previously in a board meeting which was held on April 30, a decision was taken up to form a committee in order to find out the feasibility for the Mohan Nagar to Vaishali ropeway route.

“The committee held a meeting on Thursday and gave the go-ahead for the ropeway link. The ropeway link for Mohan Nagar and Vaishali will be taken up first and its detailed project report has already been prepared. Apart from this, there is also a proposal to link Sahibabad (one of the stations on the Mohan Nagar to Vaishali ropeway link) to Sector 62 through a ropeway. Previously, there was a proposal to link Vaishali to Sector 62 but it will not happen now as there are many high-rises and residential areas on the proposed route,” said Rakesh Kumar Gupta, GDA chief engineer.

“The first ropeway link will be from Mohan Nagar to Vaishali and thereafter the Sahibabad link may be taken up either simultaneously or as second priority. Thereafter, the third priority will be to link river Hindon Metro station to Raj Nagar Extension and finally the New Bus Adda Metro station to Ghaziabad railway station will be taken up,” he added.

Officials familiar with the development have given different reasons such as shortage of funds with the authority and lack of funding from the Uttar Pradesh government, besides high per kilometre cost of Metro, as reasons for opting for the ropeway project. The cost of the Mohan Nagar to Vaishali ropeway link is estimated at ₹450 crore, officials said.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): After the successful launch of the indigenously developed semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, India is looking to export the rakes to other nations, said two people in the know.

According to the sources, few countries in South Asia and Latin America have shown their interest, therefore RITES Ltd is planning to send at least one rake for testing in each of these markets with an aim to ignite interest which can convert into export orders.

“Neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal expressed interest for Train 18. Teams from these countries visited India to get a look and feel of the modern semi-fast trains. We will look to export once the domestic demand is reasonably met,” V. G. Suresh Kumar, director (projects) RITES, said.

According to Kumar, broad gauge railway networks can be used for exporting the trains to other countries as the initial production of the trains from Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai will be for the broad gauge systems. “The product may be available in standard gauge at a later date to expand its scope for Western and Central Asian markets,” he added.

The next-generation trains will have the latest train collision avoidance system (TCAS) known as Kavach which will prevent signal passing in dangerous cases, unsafe situations arising due to over speed and train collisions in the station area as well as in the block section. The coaches will also be equipped with modern fire alarms, emergency light systems and emergency exit windows and aircraft like seating arrangements with reinforced exterior to minimise damages.
