HYDERABAD (Metro Rail News): As a leader of green and clean Urban Mass Rapid Transit Systems in Hyderabad, the World’s Greenest City, L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail has been awarded IGBC Green MRTS Certification with the highest Platinum Rating under the Elevated Stations Category for its 3 additional metro stations – Durgam Cheruvu (Corridor 3, Blue Line – Nagole to Raidurg), Punjagutta and LB Nagar (both on Corridor 1, Red Line – LB Nagar to Miyapur). This was announced on 20th October during the 3-day Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Green Building Congress 2022, which is being organised by the IGBC at HICC Novotel at Hi-Tech City in Hyderabad. Mr. KVB Reddy, MD & CEO, L&TMRHL received the IGBC Platinum Certificate for the three stations at the IGBC Projects Award ceremony organised as part of the IGBC Green Building Congress 2022. With this Hyderabad Metro Rail has 23 metro stations certified with the IGBC Platinum rating.

This certification is part of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Green Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) rating to encourage green concepts in the design, construction & operation of all new Rail-based MRTS projects.

IGBC Green Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) Rating system is a tool to enable a new rail-based MRTS to apply green concepts during design & construction, so as to further reduce environmental impacts that are measurable. The overarching objective of the IGBC Green MRTS Rating is to ensure environmental sustainability while enhancing the commuter experience.

Extension of Chennai Metro Train Services and additional Metro Train Trips during evening peak hours

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): On account of Deepavali, Peak Hour Chennai Metro Train Services will be extended between 5:00 pm and 10:00 pm instead of between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm on 20th, 21st and 22nd October 2022 with a headway of 5 minutes.

During the evening peak hour service, passengers will receive an increased frequency
of train services in less than 5 minutes to enable fast movement of passenger traffic
between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm only on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of October 2022.

Hence passengers are requested to plan their journeys accordingly during the evening

Rail Connectivity to Sikkim gets fast tracked

SIKKIM (Metro Rail News): Ministry of Railways has been laying great emphasis on improvement in Railway infrastructure in the North-eastern region. North Eastern Region is served by Northeast Frontier Railway consisting of 8 states i.e. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and Sikkim.

Out of 8 States of North Eastern Region, rail network connectivity now exists in 7 States. For, Sikkim, the new line project Sivok-Rangpo (44 km) was sanctioned. The foundation stone of this project was done by the Minister of Railway, Govt. of India at Sivok (West Bengal) on 30.10.2009 & at Rangpo (in Sikkim) by Vice President of India on the same day.

Out of the Total length of 44.96 km, 38.65 km (86%) is in tunnels, 2.24 km (5%) in Bridges and4.79 km (9%) length in open cutting/filling of station yards. The proposed line consists of 14 tunnels with longest tunnel of 5.30 km& the smallest tunnel covering 538 metres. Five stations including Sivok and Rangpo are planned on proposed Railway Line. Four stations are proposed to be open crossing stations e.g., Sivok, Riyang, Melli & Rangpo and one underground halt station e.g. Teesta Bazar.

Tunnelling which is about 86% of the total length is constructed by the latest Technique called NATM (New Austrian Tunnelling Method). The work of this project is supervised by International Consultants so that Safety and Quality are ensured. IRCON is taking all the measures so that there is minimum disturbance to the Environment and Forest.

15 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal commissioned by Railways so far

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): In pursuance of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Gati Shakti” and the Ministry of Railways’ Policy regarding ‘Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal’ (GCT) launched on 15^th December 2021, Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals are being developed for handling rail cargos. So far, 15 GCTs have been commissioned and around 96 more locations have been provisionally identified for development of GCTs. It has been targeted to commission 100 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals within next three financial years. The location of GCTs is being decided on the basis of demand from industry and potential of Cargo Traffic.

The Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCTs) are being developed by private players, and can be developed on non-Railway land or fully/partially on Railway land. For GCTs to be developed on non-Railway land, the operators will identify the location and will construct the terminal after obtaining necessary approval.

For GCTs to be developed either fully or partially on Railway land, the land parcels will be identified by Railway and the operator for construction and operation of Terminal will be selected through open tendering process.

All new proposals for GCTs shall be received only through online portal. Till 10th October 2022, In-principle approvals for 67 new proposals have been issued.

California High-Speed Rail Authority releases Sustainability Report of 2022

CALIFORNIA (Metro Rail News): The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) has released its recent Sustainability Report describing how the nation’s first system supports the backbone of the state’s aspirational climate goals.

“Sustainability is a core focus as we build the most technologically advanced, electrified and equitable transportation system to support the world’s fifth largest economy,” Margaret Cederoth, Director of Sustainability and Planning for CHSRA, said. “In pursuing carbon neutral objectives, CHSRA has meaningful targets toward which we aim our work. Our goal is to accelerate the delivery of the system’s value for communities, be it through small business participation or the delivery of public spaces in stations designed to revitalize California’s great cities. We’re also dedicated to restorative practices, such as preserving natural resources and valuable habitat.”

The Sustainability Report

Key milestones highlighted in this year’s report include:

Restoring more than 2,972 acres of habitat and protecting more than 3,190 acres of agricultural land

Planting more than 7,100 trees

Avoiding or sequestering 420,245 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of removing one natural gas-fired power plant from the grid for a year

Increasing small business participation to over 700 entities

Generating between 12.7 and 13.7 billion in total economic activity in the state, with 56 percent investment in disadvantaged communities.

The electrified high-speed rail in California will run entirely on renewable energy. The system will provide. The system will sustainably connect communities and give Californians an unprecedented alternative to vehicle travel. High-speed rail is the only mode of transportation that offers a level of journey speed and quality while using less energy as compared to any other transport.

High-speed rail will cut more than half of travel times in the Central Valley, which has a population of more than 3 million people. High-speed rail can transport passengers from Bakersfield to Merced in 56 minutes as compared to 2.5 hours by automobile.

Haryana cabinet approves final DPR for metro extension between Rezangla Chowk in Gurugram and Sector 21 in Dwarka

HARYANA (Metro Rail News): The Haryana Cabinet on 19th of October approved the final Detailed Project Report for the Metro rail connectivity project. This initiative intends to increase connectivity between Rezangla Chowk in Gurugram and Sector 21 in Dwarka.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

“According to the DPR, the spur or metro extension connecting Rezangla Chowk in Palam Vihar and Dwarka Sector 21 station will be 8.40 km long, of which 4 km will be from Palam Vihar to Sector 111 in Gurugram and the remaining 4.40 km will be from Sector 111 to Sector 21 Dwarka. This entire route will have seven stations,” an official statement said.

Khattar also approved the total project cost along with the Rs 1,541 crore contribution from the state government. The administrative secretary of the town and country planning department was approved to serve as the project’s nodal official for the signature of contracts and other pertinent papers of the project.

According to the statement, the Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) project will connect the majority of Gurugram with Delhi and its surroundings.

It will have interchanges with the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro (Dwarka Sector 21 station), the Gurugram Metro Corridor (at Palam Vihar Station), and the Airport Express Metro Corridor (IECC station).

The MRTS will also interchange with the Dwarka Expressway at Sector 110-A. The National Capital Region’s transportation system will operate more effectively due to these linkages.

Passengers traveling to the Delhi airport will have hassle-free transportation due to the check-in facilities at the Dwarka Sector 21 station.

The MRTS will increase the speed of road vehicles while lowering air pollution, by reducing the number of buses and intermediate public transportation as well as private cars.

“This, in turn, will result in significant benefits due to a reduction in fuel consumption, vehicle operating cost and travel time of passengers. Reduction in accidents, pollution and road maintenance costs are the other benefits to society in general,” the statement said.

4 bidders submit bids for CMRL’s Line-4 PSD contract

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Four bidders have submitted bids for the Platform Screen Door (PSD) contract of Chennai Metro’s 26.09 km Line-4, which would connect Light House to Poonamallee Bypass over 30 stops.

On this route of Chennai Metro’s Phase 2, full-height platform screen doors will be installed at ten underground stations’ twenty platforms, while half-height PSDs will be put at eighteen elevated stations’ thirty-six platforms.

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) floated bids for this contract, which was financed by the AIIB and ADB in May 2022 and had a deadline of 2245 (6.15 years) with an undetermined estimate.

The name of work: Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Platform Screen Doors for CMRL Phase II Corridor 4.

All four bids have been sent for technical bid evaluation, which could take a few months to complete. The financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened after that to reveal who is the lowest bidder and most likely supplier.

These PSDs will significantly assist CMRL in lowering maintenance costs in subterranean stations by increasing the quality of the atmosphere, leading to lower air-conditioning and ventilation expenses. They will also help to minimize suicides and accidents caused by passenger movement.

PUNE (Metro rail News): Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway inspected Pune Railway Station along with Smt. Renu Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Pune Division and Principal Head of the Departments of central Railway on 14th of October. He also conducted meeting with Officers of Headquarters and Branch officers of Pune division.

The General Manager inspected the Pune Railway Station premises and the station yard layout in connection with the Redevelopment of Pune Station. Mr. Lahoti also inspected various passenger amenities, and developmental works also inspected the quality of catering items and inquired about the services being provided to the passengers. After the inspection, Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway held a meeting with the Principal Head of the Departments of Central Railway and Branch officers of Pune Division and reviewed the on-going developmental work, infrastructure Projects and works related to various passenger amenities of Pune Division and gave necessary instructions to complete the projects on time with a special emphasis on speeding up all the works related to safety of the passengers.

Smt Renu Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Pune Division, Principal Heads of Departments and Branch officers from Division were also present during the inspection and meeting.
