Pune Metro Line 3 achieves completion of 2000th piling work at Hinjewadi

PUNE (Metro Rail News): The work of Pune Metro Line 3, aka Puneri Metro, on the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar route has now gained rapid momentum. The construction of the 23-km-long Project, jointly launched by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PICTMRL), a Tata group’s special purpose vehicle company, and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), has reached the stage of completing Two Thousand (2000) pilings on Friday, 18th November.

The 2000th piling work was completed today at the proposed station No. 01 of Pune Metro Line 3 in front of Magapolice at Maan, Hinjewadi. The significant part is the 1000th piling work was done on 12th July this year. This means developers have achieved a mega speed of completing another 1000 piling work within just four months, making it to 2000 piling.

“Along with this, a barricading work of 16 thousand 414 RMT on Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro line has been completed. A total of 180 piers have been completed. The total number of pile caps for piers, including the pile caps to be made for the station, has now reached 314. We are working towards increasing this number even faster in the upcoming days and are truly grateful to the citizens of Pune for their ongoing support extended to this Project,” Mr Alok Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer of Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, said.

What is ‘Piling Work’

Piling work is mainly the construction process used to lay the foundation. The pile cap on which the station is to be erected is the foundation connecting the pier and the piling dug for it. Before placing this pile cap, pits of uniform size are made according to the total pressure on the pole in the ground, which is called a ‘pile’. One station pile cap stands on six such pilings. This process is completed in about 14 days. The total time required for this work is 14 days for actual construction, followed by a waiting period of 21 days. A pier can be erected on this pile cap in about a month. Meanwhile, essential stages like load tests and quality checks are fulfilled.

Indian Railways to allot only LHB Coaches under the Bharat Gaurav Trains Scheme

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): To give concerted thrust to efforts for the promotion of rail-based tourism through providing better quality coaches and viable tour packages, the Bharat Gaurav Trains Scheme has been reviewed.

Salient Features of Revised Policy:

  • Henceforth, only Linke Hofmann Busch ( LHB) coaches will be allotted under the Bharat Gaurav Trains scheme.
  • In the interest of the promotion of rail tourism and the viability of the product, the Ministry of Railways has decided not to levy the overhead components in the Fixed and Variable Haulage Charges for the operation of Bharat Gaurav Trains under the scheme. This would entail approximately 33% concession by IR for the promotion of rail tourism under the Bharat Gaurav Trains Scheme.
  • The existing service providers, who have already been allotted ICF rakes under the Bharat Gaurav Trains Policy, would be allowed to switch to LHB  rakes for the remaining agreement period on the revised charges. However, if they opt to continue with allotted rakes, the benefit of revised charges would be available with future effect.
  • The applicable revised charges have been notified.

NHSRCL floats tender for construction of MAHSR final 135 km corridor

MUMBAI(Metro Rail News): National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. has floated a tender for the 135km stretch Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, which will include a viaduct, mountain tunnels and three stations. Consequently, bids have been requested for the full 508-kilometre stretch.

The corridor is 156 kilometres long overall in Maharashtra. Tenders have already been floated for the 348 km stretch in Gujarat and the 4 km in the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and work is under construction. On the Maharashtra–Gujarat border, along the 135 km line outside of Mumbai, three stations, Thane, Virar, and Boisar, will be constructed between Shilphata and Zaroli.

The building of 36 bridges, 11 of which are on rivers and six mountain tunnels, are among the 135 km corridor’s tenders. The deadline for bid submission is March 14, 2023, and the winning bidders will be announced the next day.

The bids were invited for the building of the BKC subterranean station on July 22, 2022. On November 4, the technical bids were opened and are currently being reviewed. The four bidders are MEIL-HCC Joint Venture, Afcons Infrastructure Ltd., Larsen & Toubro, and J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd. Financial bids will be opened for qualified bidders when the technical review is over.

On September 23, 2022, proposals for constructing a 21 km underground tunnel, including a 7 km undersea tunnel between BKC station and Shilphata, were invited. Construction is expected to begin on January 20, 2025. Seven kilometres of the tunnel will be below Thane Creek out of  21 km length. As a result, 6% of the 508km bullet train corridor will be through tunnels, compared to 92% of it being elevated.

The NHSRCL, which is carrying out the project, was to have control of 90% of the site before civil work contracts could be given, according to a decision made by the Railway Board. Even though it only owns roughly 74% of the property, the NHSRCL floated the tenders after nearly 96% of the land had been purchased.
